We contacted It's the Right Move based on their reviews and rating here on Homestars and boy are we glad we did. Philip came out and we were impressed with the thoroughness of our discussions. Price was a bit higher than others but we still felt more comfortable. On the move day, they were pretty much right on time and made amazingly quick work of our 4 bedroom house in Mississauga. We were, we believe, very organized with items labeled for where they were to go (floor and room) and boxes as centralized as possible. The team was friendly, very efficient (it was amazing watching them move), professional and cheerful. Arrival at our new home in Winona was prompt, and they again made quick work on getting everything and placed according to our wishes. Beds were assembled as well. Best surprise was at the end where Philip noted that the move went quicker and they were one less person than estimated - so the final price was several hundred dollars less!! Talk about a pleasant surprise. I cannot highlight enough how much we recommend It's the Right Move. You will not regret choosing them.

Well, I have to be honest. A good move starts with great packing and you certainly did that. I can not stress enough how much a good pack really helps on move day. So you made it easy on us. Thank you for being so well prepared.
May I wish you both all the best in Winona.
Kind regards
Philip

Jeff came out (quickly too I might add - within two days) to look at our gas fireplace in our living room. He diagnosed the issue, got it running, explained what might happen in the future as it is an older one, replaced the wall based on/off switch which was causing the problem, vacuumed the unit and tested it all out. Made sure there were no leaks. He explained everything as he went along. he is as friendly, knowledgeable, personable and helpful as you will find! Highly, highly recommended.

Choose Arni out of the 3 that were suggested by HomeStars, mainly for responsiveness (next day visit and work done) and ratings on HomeStars. Timing and communications were great, upfront costs were clear. Visit was punctual and informative. the dishwasher had not been installed properly originally and this was determined by Evgeni pretty quickly. He took the time to figure out the best way to get the appliance rebalanced and secured, and then had us run a test while he looked at our washing machine (which was making pounding sounds). For the washing machine he diagnosed the problem quickly as well, and showed us the options for replacing the part that had broken ... and gave a worthwhile recommendation that the replacement (over $700 just for the part) was not worth it for a ten year old machine. We agreed. So overall - responsive, informative, fair pricing. We will go back to Arni for any future appliance issues or repair needs.

Had Can Do replace existing fences for 5 houses. Price was on par with most companies that do fence work. I cannot comment for the others who were involved (other than the feedback I received from the others about the mix up on the fence style noted below). From my side, the end result is what would be expected. Clean up was far from perfect - cigarette butts (not a lot, but 5 or 6 in various spots) on our yard, bits of old fence including some with nails sticking out in both front (where the old fence was stacked) and back, water bottles and other debris left each day. Did not feel like yard was treated as if it was their own. There was a key mix up in the fence type to be installed. We had decided on the type with lattice at the top (which was the type being replaced) but the fence installed did not have this. To be fair the contract stated Fence 1 which is not lattice, but we did not even think to check this - the documents we sent showing the breakdown and contact info by person showed Fence 2, and we did not see anything (words, not codes) noting this on the contracts. Response from the sales person (Samer) did not make sense to myself or the other owners involved, including the main other one who met with Samer along with me when he came out. At any rate, we were offered the commission back as compensation by Samer as opposed to something back from the company itself - no communication from Alon the sales manager nor Can Do themselves. White tags left on a number of board as well, marring the aesthetics and requiring work on our side to pull off. Not a big thing, but does speak to attention to detail. The fence does look good, but communication issues, clean up issues and responses cause me to drop the rating down. We have had other work (carpets, hardwood, garage door, windows) done this year and in all other cases the follow up (before, during and after) was great and professional and the work done cleanly and professionally.

Thank you for posting your experience. We regret not meeting your expectations and although appreciate the comments on the final product looking good, we have fallen short in other areas in this case.

Working in established neighbourhoods with the type of work we are doing, bringing heavy machinery back and forth, concrete, material etc... Does cause some challenges in that some damage to grass, plants and any item in the path of construction is generally unavoidable- However clean up is generally fairly thorough although not perfect and in this case we are sorry it was not up to your standards nor ours.

The style mix up was regrettable, we did review this with our valued and committed team member Samer who is a customer advocate and always doing his best to ensure he represents our customers well. He was proactive and informed us he would go over the reasons with this particular group and we therefore let him lead the dialogue and his offer was his proactive way of trying to show his commitment to customers and we where not aware of this offer being made and of course would back our valued team member and customers whenever a reasonable grievance or resolution is proposed. The style choice on contract which we built did not raise red flags for our Sales Rep as it was a scenario where either style chosen would still result in person A or person B getting a different style as there where 2 differing styles that had to be connected so would have been no way to make this uniform for all participants either way. Having said that certainly not intentional to chose one over the other and we regret this miscommunication.

Interior work where the work space is more isolated and contained is easier typically to maintain but we could have, should have and generally do a better job of clean up than we did in this case and once again want to express our regret for not meeting your expectations in this case.

We appreciate you sharing this and will use this to strengthen our protocols and try to avoid these issues from recurring in the future.

We are always striving to improve and will continue to do so with our Customers Support which we greatly value and appreciate

Sincerely & Respectfully,

Had several installers (all found on HomeStars of course) come to give quotes. We went with Victorious not only for the fair price quoted but also for the knowledge and attention that Mark paid while visiting for the quote. The work was done very professionally - all 3 stairs had open parts, and two of them had spindles so "hand crafting" on them. The two gentlemen who did the work were great and obviously knew what they were doing. Very satisfied with the price paid, the work done, and the end result.

Called Priority Plumbing, who we have used in the past for work, to come out for an issue with no hot water in one of our showers. Kyle arrived well within the time frame requested, and checked out the issue. While working the shower valve, we both heard something "dislodge" and the hot water came back! Noted it must have been his stern voice talking to it!!! Kyle was great, checked a few other things while in the house and provided some general items to think about. Well worth the service call.

We needed to finally replace our original wooden garage doors. As usual, we went first to HomeStars to research companies, and from there (and the Dodd's website) reached out to Dodd's. They had someone out to meet us the next day and walk us through our choices and options. Very upfront, some great advice around type of door and how to best fit for our two car garage. No pressure at all. Doors were ready in about 6 weeks, and were professionally installed in half a day. Love the look of them and the service we received.

We searched around a fair bit for the hardwood we wanted to update our 4 upstairs bedrooms (about 900 square feet) from carpet to hardwood. We went to the Dundas Street in Mississauga location several times to talk with the folks there. Andrew, the main person we dealt with, was fabulous for ideas and very flexible on pricing, delivery, pick up for the trim, and more. Very satisfied with the service and the pricing, and will go back to them for future needs.

Based on reviews on HomeStars (we ALWAYS check here first), we went with Focus on Flooring to remove the carpet in 4 upstairs bedrooms and install our new hardwood and trim (which we purchased separately). The work was done over the course of 3 days, which allowed us time to shuffle the furniture between the rooms (and have a bed to sleep in each night). Mario the installer was dedicated and incredibly hard working. He accommodated us for doing the trim in one room during the second day so we had more real estate for the furniture shuffling. The end result was fabulous. There were some tricky transitions that had to be done between our bedroom and tile floor on the master, and the hallway carpet and the bedroom hardwood - all were done perfectly. there was definitely clean up we needed to do afterwards to remove the sawdust and clean some spots on the floors, but all part of what we expected to do. We will be calling Focus on Flooring back for the last room (home office above the garage) that we need to get done in the future.

Via our neighbours, we arranged to have the fencing on our properties removed and replaced. The fence itself is great - no issue with the quality of the end product. Big issue was with communications, or lack thereof. We had been informed that we would be notified when the installers would arrive - and we were not - they just showed up one day. We had some removal and prep work we were going to do with regards to a shed by the fence, and as such were not able to. We asked about the potential for Can-do to demolish and remove the shed, and were told we would hear back on the weekend - which we did not. We did not hear about when they would return to install the fencing itself - again they just showed up. As a result of not hearing back about the shed, we were unable to get it done before the fence went up, which made things much more difficult. The overall clean up was adequate, but not great - we expect workmen to treat the jobsite as if it were their own home and that was not the case. So - good quality fence, terrible communications. Price was about on par with what would be quoted from other firms. Our sales person for this work was Samer at Can-do. Price shown is for our share of the overall work - about 116 linear feet

Grateful for you sharing your experience, glad the product and final result was satisfactory but regret the issues you experienced in between.
The Sales Rep dealing with this I know has reached out to you to discuss some of the reasons communication was not where it should have been a few include;

- Assuming one of the 3 neighbours involved was the point of contact and would be passing on message so had some broken telephone there.

Also when dealing with add on's (such as shed removal)

-Anything not booked 20-30 days in advance sometimes difficult for us to add on as our hectic and fixed schedule means planning for projects days and mostly weeks in advance including all the ordering etc...

We are trying to find a way to build that flexibility into our system but from time to time quick change requests can be problematic for us with our current infrastructure if not done in advance.

I would like to have a discussion to discuss further if you would like or if you like forward me an email to discuss further if convenient for you.

We have been a customer of Priority Plumbing for a few years now, and brought them back to a) look at and fix a leaking showerhead, b) look at and fix a slow filling toilet, and c) look at another toilet that was giving us some problems. Greg arrived and review all three - gave great ideas and recommendations. We decided to replace the one toilet (it was a big box one) with a new Toto, and just leave the other one. The showerhead needed a replacement part, and Greg worked with the supplier to arrange to get the part. Greg was AWESOME the whole way through - professional, courteous, timely and full of ideas. He went above our expectations. The price was not cheap, but the quality of the service and the end results were well worth it.

Vule did an amazing job on our kitchen backsplash. The tiles we selected were fussy to say the least - not normal ones that are full 12 x 12 or subway type that are nicely attached to the backing. He made it work, although I am positive it was much work work for the tiling and grouting that he expected. He was prompt, asked good questions when needed and offered great advice. The end result was absolutely beautiful and we are thrilled with the look. We have no hesitation in recommending Vule Tile, and would ask them back in a heartbeat for additional work we might need done.

We engaged the Home Improvement People for our long planned renovation of our master bathroom at the end of 2011, with the plan for the work to be done in the spring of 2012. From the start, our meeting with Ben made it clear that the company knew what it was doing. Ben had ideas and suggestions for us that made a lot of sense (even "correcting" us nicely on some ideas we had). He worked with us on our ideas, was fair and up front regarding charges and what was their responsibility versus ours. One thing we definately liked was that we knew we would decide on tiles, fixtures, paint colour and other things we needed to choose, and the smaller stuff was all included in the price - made it very simple for us. They had arrangements with the main suppliers of items we would need (tub, vanity, countertop, tiles, shower glass, etc.) that helped with the overall investment. We finalized the installation date with no problem, and the team that arrived was ... awesome. Nuku as the lead had great ideas and suggestions as we went through the project, and was respectful of us, our ideas, and our home. We were impressed with the care they took to keep our house clean (it was a renovation, so dust and such was to be expected). The end result was absolutely wonderful. They did the work exactly as we had hoped ... there were a couple of minor issues which they corrected and took care of with no issue whatsoever - a nice change from what most of us are used to I would imagine. I would recommend the Home Improvement People without hesitation. We will certainly be going back to them for other planned updates to our home. They have set the standard for us. They are not the cheapest - but you get what you pay for, and in our case it was a very fair price for the quality of work and the professsionalism.

Recommended by our contractor as their recommended supplier (also got a good discount on our purchase through them). Awesome selection of tile products and we were able (with the help of the staff at Olympia) to find perfect wall and floor tiles, as well as accent pieces). You might need patience if you go on the weekend as they are normally very busy. Good selection, good prices.

Were recommended to Taps by the company that did our renovation (Home Improvement People - highly recommended). The selection at Taps was good, and we were able to get the taps for our two vanity sinks, the roman tub taps, the bathtub itself, and the shower glass (via Doors and More). Price was competitive and quality of the items was good. We had a good experience with the salesperson who helped us out. As indicated by others who have provided reviews, the follow up customer service is less than stellar. When we followed up on the day delivery had been planned for (with the salesperson) they had no record of the delivery being planned for that day. They did deliver the next day which was fine, but really did expect the salesperson to arrange this. A couple of days before the installation, we double checked the items received and realized that the Roman tap set was in chrome and not brushed nickel as we had ordered. Called in to the store on a Saturday and got the reception person … our salesperson was on vacation and they said someone would call us back … which did not happen. Called again two hours later, they transferred me to someone and it just rang, and rang, and rang … no pick up. Got a call from the salesperson on Monday morning and he personally delivered the replacement, which was appreciated. Did need to call in though – it was planned for between 9 AM and noon and he arrived at about 11:50. So .. good selection, quality products, but customer service is severely lacking.

What could this company do to improve their services?
Pay more attention to detail, show the same attention after the sale as when getting the sale.
Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
You have to follow up with these guys ... do NOT assume that things will happen as discussed, and double check what they deliver.

Negotiated a price for painting a townhouse, pretty much top to bottom. Contract stated that extra coats, if required would be $100 - $200. The contractor was in the house twice before quoting. I would expect a professional painter to know their stuff and have a good sense for which rooms would require multiple quotes. The painter came back after getting part way through and indicated it would be about 20% higher. Not much choice in the matter ... pushed back but did not get anywhere. There were light and plug covers (a few) that had paint on them, and it was agreed that they could just "go away". My surprise when the job was done and I was going back to put the covers back and replace the ones that were needing replacement was to find out ... they were ALL thrown out. I has asked, and was told by the painter, that the carpets and floors be cleaned when done .. she had stated that the place would be left "cleaner than when I showed up". She begged off cleaning the carpets as she ... could not find a vacuum. I did a walk through before finalizing but did not notice small (quite small but there none the less) droplets on the counters and floors, and more on the oak railing on the stairs. Took me and another hired person about 2 hours to clean up ... the painter was out of town by this time, and the house was going on the market within days. The real estate agent when walking through the house noticed the kitchen celing was splotchy. I contacted the painter to come in and redo this ... and did not hear back for about a week. Also asked about the colour codes for the bathrooms as I needed to touch them up as well (we had replaced the toilets after the painting was done). Did not hear back on that either for over a week. When I did hear back, nothing was mentioned about the kitchen, and I was promised the colour codes that night. Never got them, and the painter disappeared out of town again. So, if you want: - reasonable paint job - a price that is SURE to go higher - no follow up or communications after the job is done - promises with nothing to back them up - stupid decisions made on your behalf (like the switch covers) ... then Hardy Residential Painting is the place to go. Also goes under the name of the person doing the work, which is Lyndsay. I have NEVER posted something like this on a contractor before, but I have never been this upset with one before either ... after owning homes for over 25 years and having had lots of work done. use at your own risk.
