Our house is mainly all hardwood but we have 3 area rugs and 3 runners throughout the house. We had not had these rugs cleaned for a couple of years as we had a very old dog who needed them to get around on. However, our dog past away last month, which meant we could finally clean our rugs. We have used The Cleaning Ladies a few times now and we are really impressed with their service. The ladies are super friendly, but when they come they get right down to work. They clean in every nook and cranny. It is hard to find a great service that is reliable, easy to work with and really good at what they do. But we have definitely found one with these Ladies. Everything, since my first contact with this company has run smoothly. They are well organized and although we don’t always get the same ladies every, each team meets and exceeds our expectations. We would highly recommend them to anyone looking for an excellent company to clean their home.

A couple of weeks ago the microwave in our microwave/rangehood stop working. It had already been repaired once and being as it was over 10 years old I decided to get a new one. After ordering one online, I went to HomeStars to find someone to install it. After contacting a few companies I chose Energytech Appliance Service Inc and I am more than pleased with my choice. The 2 gentlemen that did the install were not only knowledgeable and professional, they took the time to explain some of the features on the new unit. For several years now, we have been trying to save the large birch tree in our front yard. We have had it trimmed on regular basis to rid it of the dead limbs and branches. But sadly, this year we knew it had to be removed. It had large holes in 2 of the main limbs, and it would never make it through the winter. While we have used other arborists in the past, Wayward Wind Tree Care was referred to us, so I decided to try them. It turned out to be a good decision. Sean and his helper provided us with excellent service. They completed the work in a timely manner and did a terrific job clearing up all the mess. They left the property tidy and clean. Our neighbour was so impressed that he hired them to take down his dying tree. We would highly recommend them to anyone looking for excellent service at a very reasonable price. Our garage door was open and would not close. After checking with HomeStars list of garage door companies, I called Whitby Garage Doors. It was an excellent choice. From the first conversation to the time we said good bye to their repair technician, we received professional and courteous service. Collin was here within a few hours of my call. In less then a ½ hour of his arrival our garage door was working again and it was running quieter then before. We would highly recommend them to anyone needing a garage door repaired, they provide superior service at a reasonable price. We couldn’t ask for more.

When the washer on our stackable washer/dryer combo started to vibrate wildly when it went into a spin cycle, I knew it was time to get help. After checking HomeStars, I decided to call North Durham Appliance. Right from my first conversation with the lady in the office to the completion of the repair, I was very impressed with this company. Within a couple of days of my call, they had sent out a repairman who quickly diagnosed the problem. Both shocks on our 16-year-old washer were broken. He gave us a reasonable quote for the parts and repair and advised it would take a couple of days for the parts to come in. But he assured us that they would come back as soon as they got them. Within a week of my first call to their office, our wash was repaired. The knowledge, politeness and professionalism of everyone ensured us that we had found the company that we would be dealing with for any future appliance repairs.

I had a maintenance plan from last year so all I had to pay for was the new pad for our humidifier. They are pleasant to deal with and when Mark finished with the furnace, he took the time to provide me with some information on air filters. For the past 30 years we have had a persistent problem with carpenter ants. Over the years we have used a few different companies to try to get rid of them. Though they were successful for that season, the ants would be back the next year. Also, these companies used a toxic treatment, which meant that we had to leave our house for hours at a time. This is not that easy to do, when you have pets. But 3 years ago we hired Pesticon, and they used a treatment of a non-toxic product and it worked quickly to eliminate the ants in the house. They used a stronger treatment on the outside. Although we have seen a few ants over the past 3 years there were not enough to warrant hiring a service. However, it was totally different this year. We had an infestation of flying ants in the house that was worse than we had ever had before. Right away I called Pesticon. It was around 6 pm on Sunday April 17th and Manish was here by noon April 18th. Once again he used a non-toxic powder in the house and sprayed the outside with a much stronger product. We saw a few ants that day and few dead ants for the next couple of days. It has now been 2 weeks without seeing a single ant, alive or dead. This is a great company to deal with and Manish was pleasant, very knowledgeable and professional. We now know that we will probably never totally get rid of the carpenter ants. But knowing that we have found a company that will respond quickly and effectively, as well as provide a 6 month guarantee, is very reassuring. We highly recommend this company.

After having our roof replaced and our attic insulated it was time to fix the soggy kitchen ceiling where the roof had leaked. We were looking for a company that could fix the ceiling, paint the kitchen and the front entry hall. Being on a tight schedule and needing everything done by the end of April, somewhat limited the companies available for quoting. After getting 3 quotes from some of HomeStars top rated painting contractors, I decided to use 2 Guys Painting. This decision was not only based on the fact they were top rated, but by the sense of confidence I got from Dave when he came to do the quote. He was very professional, yet friendly and definitely knowledgeable. He promptly provided a detailed quote and was willing to work with our tight schedule. As soon as our roof was replaced and our attic insulated, I contacted Dave. We arranged a date and time so that the work would be finished by the end of April. When Ali arrived, he started right into the prep work. He did an exceptional job of covering our cupboards, counters, and floors. Although Dave had originally said the job could take 2 days, Ali worked overtime to have it all completed in 1 day. He had reduced the time needed for drywall to dry before painting, by using a faster drying compound. When he was ready to start sanding, he put plastic up to enclose the rooms he was working in. When he was finished, all we had to do was put the stools back around the island and reorganized the stuff on the counters. He provided exceptional workmanship, and was a pleasure to deal with. We would definitely use them again and highly recommend them.

Over the winter we decided we needed to have the insulation in our attic upgraded. We were also having a new roof install and our kitchen and entry hall painted. We wanted to get everything done before the summer heat arrived. Our roofing contractor recommend I contact Mark at Envirotech Insulation. After checking and finding Envirotech was a top rated company on HomeStars, I had Mark come out and take a look. He explained what we needed done and quoted a reasonable price. We were on a very tight timeline, but Mark managed to work us into his busy schedule. Shaun and John arrived on time, and went right to work figuring out what they need to do to get their equipment up in our attic. The access is in a tight space above where our stackable wash and dryer are located. They did a great job moving the appliances out, protecting our flooring, and all their working areas. When the job was done they moved the appliances back in place without leaving any marks on the hardwood floors. They even swept and vacuumed the whole area around where they worked. Although we don't know how cost effective the upgrade will, we do know that we picked the right company to do the work. They are knowledgeable and pleasant to deal with and they did a great job. We definitely recommend Mark and his crew to anyone who is looking to have their attic insulated.

First I have to tell you that all the companies that do work for us come from listings on HomeStars. We have rated all of them a 10 including Fyfe’s Roofing. We first used Fyfe’s back in 2013 when we had a leak in our roof. As soon as I met Mike, I knew he was an up front, no-nonsense kind of guy. He knows what needs doing and gets it done. Back in 2013 we needed a few shingles replaced and some areas resealed. Mike responded quickly and the roof was fixed within 2 days of my original call. He told us that our roof, for its age, was not in bad shape and we should get a few more years out of it. Well he was right, the next time we called him with another leak was in October 2015. Mike responded quickly to repair the leak. But this time he advised that although the roof would get us through the winter, it was time to start thinking about replacing it. He gave us a quote for replacing the whole roof and told me to call him in the spring. Once again he was right, we did make it through the winter. Although I knew I would use Fyfe’s Roofing, I always get 3 quotes before I have any work done. Mike was very competitive in his price and I booked to have him replace the roof the 1st week in April. But, the week before that we had heavy rain and another leak. I contacted Mike and he came out again and patched it at no charge. There was a 1 ½ weeks delay do to more snow and rain, but it got done today and I can’t begin to tell you what a great job they did. Mike goes above and beyond when doing a job. He removed an old fireplace chimney that was no longer in use and did a few other things that he felt were needed. He did these things at no extra charge, which is something you don’t see too often. The crew showed up on time and worked efficiently to get the job done in one day. After the job was finished, the crew completely cleaned up after themselves, checking to make sure there were no nails or debris left behind. Our roof looks great. I know this because Mike took picture to show us, being as we are both too old to go up there and see for ourselves. We had a problem with some water on the floor in our basement. The area that was wet was in around where the main drain is. Wanting to fix the problem before it became any bigger, I searched HomeStars for a plumber. There were a number of highly rated companies that all had about the same pricing. Usually I have 3 companies quote so I can be sure to get the best company for a reasonable price. But right from my initial call to A Marco Plumbing (Durham location) I knew that they were the right company for the job. My first contact was with Sharon. She was able to answer all my questions about having a camera inspection done from our house to the sewer line at the road. She was able to give me estimated cost over the phone, which included snaking the drain if needed. We booked an appointment for a time that suited our schedule. When Phil arrived we found him to be very polite and professional. He explained what he was going to do, in terms we could clearly understand. He showed us on the camera the areas in the drain that would be a problem. We agreed to have him snake the drain and before we knew it he had completed the job. Hopefully we will not have any further issues with the drain, but if we do we will definitely call them again. The interlock on our patio in the front, side and back yards, as well as our asphalt driveway were all in desperate need of cleaning & sealing. We also needed to have areas in the back and front patios re-levelled, to stop the buildup of water when it rains and ice when the snow melts. After checking on HomeStars, and getting quotes from 3 of their top reviewed companies, I chose Sealall Pavement Inc. Although the quote Danny provided was not the lowest, I was very impressed from the first time I met him. He answered all my questions as he patiently went over the whole process with me. He was very accommodating when it came to working around other jobs I had planned for our yard. Levelling our back patio turned out to be a lot more complicated than Danny and his men had imagined. It took twice as long to do than what they expected. The end result was beyond our expectation. We could not believe the difference in the stones, they look brand new. There are very few companies that go out of their way to do whatever it takes to satisfy their customers, but Danny does. He’s honest, reliable, and very hardworking. We had a sprinkler system put in several years ago and have used them since then to open and close the system. This year I decided to look on HomeStars and check out other sprinkler companies. I was looking for a company to fix the problem we have with water going everywhere, not just on our grass. I also needed someone to find the break in one of the lines and fix it, without having to dig all over the yard to find it. After making a few calls I finally found a company that I knew, as soon as I spoke to the owner, was the one that could resolve all our issues. The first visit was to open the system and find where the leak was. This was done quickly and the only digging they had to do was in the area of the leak. When they finished I asked them to have the owner call me as I wanted to have a quote for the cost of overhauling the system to make it more efficient. I received a call later that same day from Steve and we booked an appointment for him to come out the next day. He arrived as scheduled and took his time checking the whole system over. Then he suggested that moving a couple of the lines and changing the location and type of heads being used in some of the areas would eliminate the water from going on our house, fence, driveway and road. He also said adding more drip lines for my planters would further reduce water waste. That same day he provided me with a very reasonable quote. He was flexible & willing to work with my schedule, as we were having other work done in our yard. When I called and advised them that we were ready for them to start, they were here within a week. They arrived on time, completed the work quickly, and the job was done efficiently with little damage to our grass. When they showed me the results of changing the location and type of heads, I was totally amazed. All our grass, gardens and flower pots were getting watered without watering our house, fence, driveway and road. I am looking forward to lower water bills starting this summer. We had a 20 year old wood shed that needed to be replaced. We found Shedman listed on HomeStars and went to visit their showroom here in Pickering. We were please to find that they had many design options and styles to choose from. We spoke with Randi, who walked us through the different models. She is very knowledgeable and went over all aspects on the project with us. We wanted a total maintenance free shed and with her help we selected a vinyl shed with a shingled roof. We book an appointment, and other then a one day delay do to rain, they finished as scheduled. They removed our old shed and took everything on day one and day two our new shed was installed. All of their staff was very courteous and the install was efficient and very professional. We were impressed with the quality and workmanship and our new shed looks amazing. I found “Plumber On The Go” on HomeStars a few years ago and have used their service a few times since then. I called him again today to fix a leak in our toilet and a dripping shower tap. He was in the area so he stop here on his way by. He had the parts needed to fix both leaks, so he was finished in no time. He even fixed my loose toilet seat. I was looking for someone to paint the trim around our new kitchen window and side door, as well as our main bathroom. I found Perfect Painter through Homestars. Although their price was not the lowest, they were the most responsive to quoting on our small paint job. Our communication was done via email or phone. The inside staff ensured that all my question and requests were handled quickly and professionally. I booked the work to be done the first week in 2015. Chris arrived on time and wasted no time getting all his stuff together. He was very personable and friendly. Recently we went out for quotes to replace our back door and kitchen window. After receiving several quotes we went with Superior Home Improvements. They offered the best value for our budget and provided premium products without the premium cost. Right from our first meeting with their sale representative, we knew that we were dealing with a top notch company. Karl not only provided a friendly and professional service, he answered all my questions (I had a lot of those). He provided us with valuable information and helped us to choose the best window for our kitchen. Within a few days of signing the contract, Jeff came to do the final measurements. He confirmed that it would likely take 6 to 8 weeks for our order to arrive. We were very pleased when, 6 weeks later, we received a call from Jeff saying that our order had arrived and they were ready to install it. Within a few days their installer arrived. Dan was punctual, skilled, and efficient. When he ran into an unexpected problem with the installation of our kitchen window, he found a solution quickly. With approval from the office, he took care of the issue and the rest of the install went very smoothly. He made sure the door and frame were fitted perfectly and the lock operated smoothly. We had a large Birch tree that had been damaged over the winter by the ice storm and needed to be pruned. There were also had some branches from our neighbours tree hanging too close to the wires at the side of our house. Everyone from Kelly’s was friendly, knowledgeable, courteous and efficient. This included the office staff, the Arborists that came to do the quote, to the staff that did the pruning. They knew what needed to be removed and what should be left for an aesthetic and healthy looking result. We were impressed at how quickly and neatly the job was done. Our first experience with Birks Landscaping was back in mid 1990’s. At that time we had 24”x24” patio pavers around the pool, the back patio and on the walkways in our side yard. They removed the slaps and installed interlocking in all these areas. They did an excellent job. So when we decided in 2009 to fill in our pool, once again contacted Birk’s. This time they filled in our pool and sod that area. Peter provided great suggestions on how we could reuse the interlocking stones that had been removed. He used some of them make a small patio in the back. Then using the balance of the interlock he landscaped the front of our house with an amazing patio and surrounded it with beautiful gardens. Once again we found Peter and his crew punctual and professional. Our neighbours couldn’t believe the transformation to the front of our house. This year, we once again had a major project that we knew would require a skilled landscaping team to complete. We had no hesitation in contacting Peter again. Our lot is about 8 feet below the neighbours behind us, so we require a retaining wall across the 65 feet at the back of our yard. The wall that was there was made of pressure treated wood that was falling apart. The difficult part about doing any work in our back yard is the limited access, which requires a lot of the work to be done by small Bobcats and manual labour. When I spoke with Peter, I asked him to figure out a way to build us a new retaining wall using armor rock. He came up with a plan that provided exactly what I asked for. We signed the contract on April 17/14 and the work started on May 8th and we now have a beautiful 2 level armor rock retaining wall with a garden in each level. The crew was a great bunch of guys who worked very hard to provide us with as little disruption as possible. When the wall was done they repaired all the area’s affected by the work. After the worst ice storm Pickering had seen in many years, we decided to replace our old, non-working, ugly fireplace. After leaving messages with a few fireplace contractors, I received a call from Ron at Topfire Fireplace. He came to see our existing fireplace and suggested that we come to his store to look at some working fireplaces. After seeing the large selection of fireplaces and stoves that Ron had setup, I decided I wanted to have crystals not logs in our new fireplace. Ron recommended that we meet with his carpenter at our house, before making a final decision. With the help of Ron & Henry we decided to remove the old corner fireplace, and install a new Napoleon Crystallo fireplace on the end wall of the living room with our TV recessed above it. Removing our old fireplace required breaking up and removing the brick base, as well as matching and installing hardwood flooring. Framing and drywall had to be put up, and then the whole area needed to be painted. This was all done by Henry’s crew. The transformation is amazing. When we first moved into our house 27 years ago, we had a wired doorbell in our kitchen. It was ugly and didn’t work properly, so after a couple of years we replaced it with wireless battery operated door chimes. Now 25 years later and 4 different sets of wireless door chimes, none of which worked properly in the cold weather, we want to put in wired door chimes. We bought a set of wired chimes and a push button. Then we needed an electrician install them. I looked on HomeStars and found Rand Electric. I called and set up an appointment. They sent out Shane, who arrived on time, was friendly and very professional. He spent the time to troubleshoot every possible way to get our doorbell wired with the least amount of damage to our walls or door frame. It looked like it was not going to be that easy to install without making some holes for the wiring needed to get from the push button to the chimes and the electrical service panel. However, Shane figured out a way to do it all without making any noticeable holes in our walls or door frame. He did an absolutely amazing job. He did the work within the time and price quoted. We will definitely use this company again. In September we found out that our previous window cleaner had gone out of business. So we started looking for someone that would provide the same exceptional, professional and friendly service, at the same reasonable price we had been paying. Our search lead us to Mr. Sparkle Professional Window Cleaning. Rob is very professional and did an excellent job. When he finished, he asked us to check and make sure we were satisfied with the work. We were extremely satisfied with the quality of the work and his price was very competitive. I know who we will be using next spring to get our windows cleaned, and we definitely recommend Mr. Sparkle for anyone planning on getting their windows cleaned.

I had called and left messages with a few roofing companies, trying to get a quote to repair the leak in our roof. Mike from Fyfe’s Roofing called back in less then an hour. He came out the next day and after his careful examination of the roof he determined that overall our roof was in good shape. We did however have some area’s that need to be resealed and a few shingles needed to be replaced. He gave us a detailed description of the work to be done and a very reasonable quote. After agreeing to use his company, he was back in a couple days to complete the work. Our property was cleaned and left like they were never here, except for the fact the leak is gone. All in all a good experience, and I would certainly consider them when it comes time to do the whole roof.

This summer we found a few wasp nests in our back yard. We had no success getting rid of them, with off the shelf products, so we finally decided that we need professional help. After checking the reviews on the HomeStars website, I called Pestend. I was very pleased to find they were able to get someone to come out the same day I called. When Lugman arrived he checked our back yard and found that wasp nests where in a hard to reach areas. He explained, in detail, the various options we had for getting rid of them. Kyle came out to give us a quote and after talking to him and learning more about his company; we got him to quote on both installing an irrigation system and a full lawn care package. Although Kyle did not have the lowest quote, he did have a more comprehensive lawn care package, as well as a top notch irrigation system. So we went with LawnSavers and have been their customer ever since. Last year was one of the worst summers for high temperatures and very little rain.
