They even walked me through a test to see if it was something else.

Company Response

We appreciate your review, thank you. TAS is working very hard on improving first day call completion by adding necessary parts to truck stock and pre id calls before tech would be dispatched.

Microwave not working

I had Toronto Appliance Service come out to my home to take a look at a Microwave/Range Fan that I had thought was not working properly. The Microwave was still covered under warranty and the manufacturer had sent this company out to take a look. They were on time and professional. Although they weren't able to do anything for me (they identified that the range fan on the microwave was supposed to function that way), they did offer some suggestions on how I could speak with the manufacturer to get a credit if I decided to purchase a different one.

Front-load Maytag washer repair

BOTTOM LINE: Technical repair seems fine, but customer service was the worst I have experienced.

TAS was scheduled to repair my washer on Oct 18 after I placed a call to Whirlpool customer service. During my short call with Whirlpool, it was identified that though the machine was outside of the warranty period, it was likely that my problem was one that was typical of this model and that Whirlpool would cover the cost of the parts. Whirlpool asked to have the technician call them while at my home for the diagnosis visit. Though I could clearly see this request to call Whirlpool on the work order, the technician, Bogdan M, refused to do so. It seemed he was trying to leave as quickly as possible, despite being at my home for less than 10 minutes. I managed to get Whirlpool customer service on the phone before he left so he could communicate the diagnosis to them. Had he waited 30 seconds longer before leaving (while I was on the phone with customer service), he would have discovered that Whirlpool agreed to send me the parts for free. I had tried to explain the likelihood of this to the technician when he arrived, though he simply kept repeating to me that the parts are very expensive.

On Oct 23, I received a quote from Ann at TAS that I could pay $1500 to have my washer fixed. I replied with the information above, and that I wasn't satisfied with the service thus far. I received the parts from Whirlpool later that day, then emailed Ann to let her know I wanted to book the service call. Though she already had my written agreement to pay for two hours labour, she claimed that she could not book the service until she got an authorization number from Whirlpool. I later received an email from her, addressed to Whirlpool, requesting an authorization number. I immediately contacted her to suggest she confirm that she had in fact contacted Whirlpool, since I had just received her email. She assured me she had done so. I was not convinced, so I contacted Whirlpool myself, confirmed that no such authorization was required, and subsequently booked the service appointment for Oct 30.

On Oct 29, I received an email from Ann that she could not honour the appointment booked through Whirlpool for the following day, as she still had not received the authorization number. I replied by email stressing that this was not necessary and that I wanted the appointment confirmed. I tried to reach her by phone, but gave up after being on hold for 15 minutes. I called Whirlpool to complain, reaching an agent very quickly, and asked her to straighten out the issue. She put me on hold and tried to reach Ann by phone. After 15 minutes of waiting, I hung up, but later received a voicemail from the Whirlpool agent that the issue had been resolved. Subsequently, Ann emailed to acknowledge the authorization issue had been resolved, but that no appointments were available on Oct 30, as they book days in advance. In fact, I had booked my appointment 6 days in advance.

Eventually, my washer was repaired and the technical issue seems to be resolved. Once the appointments had been confirmed, the technician was punctual, though not friendly. I was forthcoming with Ann regarding my dissatisfaction, and I do not feel that this was ever adequately addressed. " I am very sorry for the inconvenience but I have to go by what my Manager tells me." Considering my customer service experience, I will not do business with TAS in the future.

washer/dryer needed to be repaired.

I had TAS come in and fix my washer to the tune of $500, the first time and the second time another cool $500, when less than a few months later the machine wasn't working I asked to speak to the management to ask if they could send someone over and I wasn't prepared to pay again for the same repairs in less than a year! I spoke with someone name Anne who was awful, she was rude, told me to stop wasting her time and just go out and buy a new one and that nothing is guaranteed, when I asked to speak to the manager she was defensive and rude and then offered up the name. I called management and left a message and still haven't heard anything! I would run from this company! They are disrespectful, rude and will stand behind the work that they do!

What could this company do to improve their services?
be more approachable to the clients, and have staff that are respectful and offer decent customer service.
Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
get everything in writing and know that they don't guarantee their work/parts past 3 months!!!

Refrigerator repair

Refrigerator emitted a buzzing noise intermittently so I called TAS to come in for an assessment. Informed by TAS technician that "the compressor is not starting" and therefore the compressor needs to be replaced at a cost of $680+labor for a total of over $1,000!

Due to the unreasonably high estimate by TAS, I decided to obtain a second opinion and contacted another appliance repair company... I was glad I did because it turned out to be a very minor problem, which the second company managed to solve by replacing the relay and performing an overload test for only $240 parts+labor. How the TAS technician failed to diagnose an apparently small problem and offer a simpler and more cost-effective solution was beyond me... I would NOT recommend TAS and strongly suggest looking into other more highly rated appliance repair companies for your service needs.

Company Response

When TAS technician is called for service on appliances we try doing the job so we don’t have to go back for same problem anymore. Our technician DID diagnosed that relay was burned on compressor and proposed to replace compressor as A PROFESSIONAL technician know that replacing relay today WILL LEAD to compressor replacement sooner or later and that may happen in few days or weeks. Than customer is asking why did you replace relay knowing that compressor will have to be replace anyway. It simply cost customer extra money and treble. Bottom line, this customer will have his compressor replaced if he didn’t have it already. He will not write about it anymore because there will be no one to blame but HIMSELF. Whoever replaced relay on that compressor simply ripped this customer off. Relay for his compressor would have cost no more than $60 and NOT $240 as he proudly MANTIONING IN HIS complaint letter. TAS has been in business since 1975 and we have experience this kind of situation in the past therefore we are NOT replacing relays anymore – WE REPLACE COMPRESSORS – original right from the factory and that is why cost of the part is higher.

Fridge repair

I would never hire this company to fix any appliance. They came to my house more than 10 times to try and fix the problem and it was never fixed. The last time they came the said it was actually my freezer that was the issue, not the fridge (same appliance) and wanted to charge me as a new issue. If they were not able to fix the problem they should have told me to just buy a new fridge, not continue to charge for parts that do not solve the issue.

Company Response

Customer called on Nov 22, 2010 complaining that their fridge is not working. TAS sends a tech on Nov 25, 2010 to diagnosed problem. We came back on Dec 20, 2010 with parts and completed service call. Towards the end of February customer called back complaining that his fridge is freezing food. We send tech again at no charge for service call and diagnosed that control board was needed. This is Samsung refrigerator and we had to wait few weeks before we received part. After we received it and replaced we found that new part was defective so we had to reorder same part again. After speaking to manufacturer we finally received correct part and replaced it (March 18, 2010). Customer was notified all along of all actions that we were taking to solve this issue. We believe that customer was also contacting Samsung to speed up process to receive part. On May 18, 2010 customer calls us to complain that his freezer is not freezing now so we send TAS tech AT NO CHARGE again to check the problem. This time evaporator fan motor has stopped working. We gave customer estimate on part only, we did not wanted to charge for labour or service call. Customer did not call back therefore we close file. This customer had multiple issues with refrigerator and TAS was trying to help but customer had enough of calling for service every 2-3 months and having different issues so after having last free visit he decided to buy new fridge. Problem with lemon fridge is being extended on to TAS as bed servicer. This review should be sent to Samsung site for supplying defective parts.

Washer repair

We moved into a new house with a washer that was just over one year old. With a new baby on the way within days, we needed the washer to work! Long story short, the washer was so loud, it was obvious there was a problem. We called and a technician came out within days, diagnosed the problem quickly and ordered the parts. Within two weeks, they were back and spent all afternoon fixing our washer. The repair people were courteous and professional, and respected our home. In terms of repair, we couldn't be happier and will call again. However, the hygiene of the repair people was not great - our house smelled with their body odor and I had to open all the windows while they were there and for several hours after. That is my only complaint.

Thank you for your review. We are happy that you liked our service and professionalism. In regards of hygiene I can’t comment as we don’t know who you are. Please contact TAS so we can find you in our system and we can find out who and when attended your house. At this point we can only say that all our techs wearing nice and clean TAS uniforms. They all have uniforms replacements for every day of a week. Hygiene is very important for TAS. We haven’t got anyone making such a statement about hygiene. We thought that we are a hard working personnel that does most of the time physical work therefore technician always will have some kind of body odor. We apologies that you did not like it but we can’t take shower after each service call.
