Dishwasher Repair

I've learned my lesson, hopefully someone else can learn as well.

I called the Whirlpool service desk about my dishwasher that wasn't washing as well and was routed to TAS. The appointment was set-up without fuss and the tech arrived on time. I should have sent him packing when he said 'that's a unique machine' as he looked at my Whirlpool dishwasher, but unfortunately didn't. After some fuddling around and confused looks he called someone on his cell phone and spoke for a few minutes. The diagnosis was a component that he said would cost $220 which they would contact me about and he'd come back to install (for more $). I waited a week and heard nothing, so thought I'd order the part myself to speed things along - learning that the part was no longer available and I'd have to buy a new dishwasher (to replace my 5-year old one).
I figured, if it was dead, it wouldn't hurt me having a look. It turns out a float level sensor in the bottom was dirty, so I cleaned it, put it back together and it worked fine. So, I phoned TAS and asked that my $88 be refunded as the diagnosis was completely wrong and almost cost me $800 to buy a new one. I have phoned several times and they have stopped responding. For the principal of it, I will now be taking them to small claims court where I am almost sure to win - more to come. If TAS or their techs feel they are not equiped to diagnose a make or model (which they know before they come out), they should decline rather than taking the money and providing no service - or in my case, taking a stab in the dark at random components that may have cost me a new dishwater.

Fridge Repair

When my warrantied whirlpool refrigerator broke down several times, Whirlpool sent out Toronto Appliance to fix it. the first time they came out, fixed the fridge only to have it break down 31 days later. When I called for them to come back to fix the fridge again, they said they were going to charge me another $78 just for showing up even though they had only been here 31 days ago. "Their service is only guaranteed for 30 days" said the manager lady. I was being very reasonable with her and explained that it actually is the exact same problem and asked if she could make an exception as it was only 1 day over their service warranty and they had not fixed the problem properly. Long story short, she would not budge, became very angry and I ended up hanging up on her, calling Whirlpool and expressing my dissatisfaction with their choice of service companies. Unfortunately, they had to come out again as the compressor broke down completely, this time, the service technician was friendlier and told me that the compressor would be replaced within 2-3 days -- it has now been almost 2 weeks and I can't get anyone to return my calls or give me any correct information as to when I can expect my fridge to be fixed. I have a 2 1/2 year old and a 4 week old and am getting very tired of having to wait for a refrigerator! My only option is to speak to the Manager lady again, and that didn't get me anything last time except a pounding headache and high blood pressure.

AVOID USING THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS. Whirlpool has other qualified companies that they can send out instead of Toronto Appliance. Save yourself some aggravation and use one of the others!

Refrig compressor job

One hot summer, my refrigerator breaks on me. I called this company and they came the next day, this refreerator broke on monday. They came on tuesday and anlyzed the problem. Very comfortable and nice service tech came in. I received my estimate shortly after, agreed as i had no other option. Lucky me that the compressor was not on back order, and was on stock, they installed and fixed my refrigerator. Recommended to all my family members. As well, i do my research very well, and the prices these guys provide, are exceptionally lower then their competitors.thanks tas.

Dryer Belt

In October 2008 I had a dryer belt split. Being very technical I provided everything required to this company (make, model, and belt part number)since I took the dryer apart.

Driver/tech comes out 4 business days later with nothing in hand and brings an invoice for $88.14 just for showing up.

I have a newborn in my house and the clothes and towels are building up... How disappointed am I that they have no parts? Very!

I told the guy that this service is not service at all and that I'm very disappointed.

Five months later I get an invoice saying I owe $88.14... You don't work for the money you don't get paid.

Received second invoice saying they are going to send it to a collection agency who just screw up your credit rating without just cause. I just got off the phone now with the Office Manager and explained she should read this site because I'm not the only person pissed off with them.

I bit the bullet and paid the invoice but I will never in my life allow anyone I know deal with this company. Especially when people like Brannan's Appliance Repair Ltd. come the next day with parts in hand and fix the problem in 20 minutes.

Repair of Maytag Waranty parts

Toronto Appliance Centre is the Maytag repair man of Toronto.Since our fridge was under warranty- Maytag had to contact their contracted service centre. The first time they were to come out- they didn't- no phone call- nothing.
The second time they were called they showed up as scheduled however, they told us we had to wait for a compressor for about a week and when it did come in we were told we would be the days second appointment between 10-1pm. At 1:10pm we were told between 11- 1:00pm IT was already AFTER 1:00.
We had no fridge for a week.
This company is not to be trusted either by contract from Maytag or on their own

Stove Repair & Installation

I hired Toronto Appliance Service for a repair of an electric stove and an installation of a gas stove. The repairman showed up unprepared for the job without the correct parts. He then had to buy the parts from Canadian Tire and charged me double what he payed for the parts. He then repaired my electric stove only to have to come back two days later because the stove wasn't working.
When I talked to the manager about the repairman charging me double for parts that I could've bought myself, he said it was standard practice and wasn't willing to budge.
I do a lot of renovating and own 4 properties. I will never use this company again. They could've remedied the situation by offering me a small refund of about $75.00. Instead, they will have lost $100's if not $1000's of dollars in the long run.

$450.00

My stove was not working. The repairman came quickly and fixed it promptly. The price was reasonable. I will now get many more years out of my stove!
