Fixing Oven Fan

Poor communication, wrong part ordered, missed service appointment and a manager who refused to take responsibility or even apologize after four afternoons I took off work. I was referred by Kitchen Aid and did not check reviews. I wish I had. My experience was completely frustrating and rude. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY.

Fridge Repair

Had provided my c.c over the phone when requesting service back in 2009 for a tenant. Repair was done though c.c. never charged and I didn't notice. I was sent to collections, paid in full right away to avoid credit history and years later the bad record still appears on my record. They're quick to charge, slow in service and snail's pace in updating records.

Repair front-load washer

I asked to have my 10 (?) year old front load washer repaired. A very efficient young man - Andrey - went to work and in jig time he found the problem and had repaired it. He was fast, clean - no mess- polite, and easily explained the problem to me. He didn't overcharge and cleaned up after his work was complete. I'd recommend this worker to anyone. He is GOOD!! I hope he gets to read this. Thanks!!!

Stove

I was referred to Toronto Appliance Service by Jenn Air (the manufacturer of my stove). Making an appointment with them required multiple phone calls, and diagnosing my stove required multiple visits (all of which I paid for). At the end of the day, I paid $300 to be told that one of my burners was leaking gas and that the part required to fix it was discontinued. Besides the fact that is was dangerous for me to operate the stove with a leaky burner for weeks (between their first visit and their third visit), I ended up paying $300 to have a burner disconnection and no longer in use. I complained but made no progress with management at TAS. Save your time and money and use another appliance repair company.

Stove repair

There is nothing "prompt or professional" in TAS's service, as they would like you to believe. They are wholly unaccountable, rude and unprofessional. The technician they sent to our house (3 times, because he didn't do his job properly the first time) was late, confrontational and swore at us. His incompetency cost us an extra $100 in labour because he didn't perform the work he should have performed the first time. I would never recommend this sorry excuse for a company to anyone. Kitchen-Aid should not be referring their customers to them.

Miele Dishwasher repair of door

I was very disappointed to learn that TAS only warranties there services for 30 days - especially when the door they fixed on our Miele dishwasher started to fall forward again after that time period. If a serviceman repairs something as simple as a bolt on the frame of a dishwasher that is otherwise in perfectly working condition, I would like to think the effort to secure the unit would last longer than 30 days - and if it doesn't, that they would be interested in fixing it again to ensure it does hold!

Whirlpool washing machine diagnosis/repair

I would have given 1 1/2 stars for the tech showing up on time and being knowledgeable, but 2 stars would be too many, since they didn't fix the problem.

My washing machine was filling with water when it was off. I called the number on Whirlpool's website and made an appointment, and was told that the actual repair company (who, it turns out, isn't who you call to make the appointment) would call me back to confirm. Except when they called, it turned out that the appointment I thought I'd made wasn't a real appointment. They gave me an appointment for a couple of days later. It was going to be $88 for the service call, plus parts, plus labour. That seemed expensive, but I agreed.

I took time off work to stay home for the repair. The tech showed up on time, ran a diagnostic, and said that the problem was the valve (the most likely part). Great! Except that the tech doesn't carry parts with him, because he "couldn't possibly carry every single part on his truck." Maybe not, but since I gave the model number, serial number, and a description of the problem when I made the appointment, it was either the valve or the controller to this exact model, neither of which is huge or cumbersome.

But no, their business model is that they call me the next day to give me an estimate ($126 for the part, and around $100 for labour, for a total of $256 including tax. Plus the $88 plus tax I'd already paid), at which time I have to pay in advance for the part. They will get it in a week if it's in stock, or more than two weeks if it's not. Then I can make another appointment (and miss another half day of work). No, they can't tell me if it's in stock until after I pay for it. No, they can't tell me how long I might have to wait for it if it's out of stock.

And that's when I did what I should have done in the first place: I found the same part online in several places for about $50-60 including shipping, where it would arrive at my door in a week. One place had it in stock with a pickup location near me, and I was able to pick it up and install it myself that very day.

Seriously? Neither company told me when I called for the appointment, or when they called me back to make it, that the tech carries no parts and that the process would involve two separate appointments. And how can they not even know whether or not the part is in stock until I pay for it? That's either the most inefficient system ever, or a way to coerce people into committing to wait for however many weeks it takes an out-of-stock part to come in. And if I can get it from another company the very same day, how does it takes the repair company that's authorized by the manufacturer a whole week (let along untold weeks) to get it?

I feel ripped off for wasting $100 and missing a half day of work for no real benefit, but their business practices being so inefficient and so inconvenient ended up saving me from overpaying for their overpriced part and labour, so in the end I'm grateful that it worked out the way it did.

Approximate cost of services:
$88.00
What could this company do to improve their services?
Have the tech carry some of the likely parts with him, so he might be able to do the repair on the first visit. If you're not willing to do that, then make the process clear when people phone.
Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
Use someone else.

Company Response

We don't kow who this customer is, it would be helpfull if we were provided some information so we could track your records to properly answer to your complaint. We service many costumers a day and without stated name or some relative information we don't know who you are. Our business practice is very simple and customer is being advised of any costs before we dispatch our tech to DIAGNOSE problem. Diagnostic fee of $88 plus tax was paid by this customer to determin what was causing problem. Our tech has showed up on time as per above testmony and has diagnosed problem correctly. Based on our diagnoses customer had purchased part and replaced it himself. Now washer is operting OK. So, bottom line is, it was worthed to have TAS to diagnose and pin point problem so by replacing ONLY one (1) part probelm could be solved. In many situations service by other companies end up in replacing so many parts as diagnostic wasn't correct from first visit. TAS approciete your business.
