Unfortunately, we still hear too many stories of how 'the last plumber' made a huge mess or charged them an outrageous amount of money to fix something. In fact, these stories were exactly what encouraged us to start our own business ~ the plumbing company we worked for seemed more interested in how much they could charge rather than doing what was right for the customer. I would not want to be treated like that myself, so I started Edmonton Emergency Plumbing in 2003.

Older parents are the most vulnerable when it comes to finding someone to help them with a problem in their home. Our own parents have had issues with finding reasonably-priced plumbing services outside of Edmonton, so it was a pleasure to be able to spend the time with this customer to educate them about what was going on with their plumbing and what to expect going forward. Empowering customers to make good decisions means a lot to us, so I was particularly pleased they were satisfied with our service.

My favorite type of customer ~ intelligent and interested in what was going on and what we were doing. I read once that you were not a true professional until you did something for free, or made a recommendation that was actually going to cost your business money. In this case it would have been easy to convince this customer they needed a video inspection at an added cost, but because the issue appeared close to the property line and therefore likely to be covered free of charge if the City of Edmonton inspected it, I advised that this was a more reasonable future option in my opinion. This was a weekend emergency call-out with a 100+km roundtrip. We do our best to provide accurate upfront pricing; in this case we had to purchase some specific parts for this repair which we provided at cost to the customer, and actually spent an additional 30min on this job which we did not charge for.

Not usually difficult to remove, but this one did its best to elude us. I was surprised that someone else had told this customer they had a tree root problem when there were no tree roots recovered on the cable, and of course the video inspection and confirmation showed the line did not have tree roots anywhere. I am glad we were able to resolve this problem and give this customer some confirmed information about what was going on rather than guessing like some other service people seem to do.

I don't recall being 'cheap' LOL but we do try and keep our prices manageable ~ we're not millionaires, so we still know what it is like to be on the paying end for services. Especially when there always seems to be so much month left at the end of the money.
