We were very pleased with the installation of a new furnace and air conditioner. The quote originally provided by Chris was exactly what we ended up paying. The work was completed in the timeline given to us. Everything was cleaned up after the project and Chris spent time going over the new systems and ensuring that we were comfortable with the details of operation. It was a real pleasure getting to know Chris and Rob. We feel confident in the work they have done. I highly recommend Hogg Home Services.

Based on the reply from Steve, I have edited this review. I originally posted it with some degree of anger and that is never a wise thing. Steve's response is so reasonable that I cannot argue with it. I will not seek any reduced fee as Valley View Appliances did exactly what they promised and what I asked for. I don't want to compromise their ratings on HomeStars. Thank you Steve for your integrity. Following is my original review. I sent in a request hoping to hear back from someone who knew something about washing machines. Unfortunately the person who called back knew very little and would not pursue the conversation on the phone. I clearly explained that the washing machine sounded like a jet engine on spin cycle along with some other symptoms. He said it might be as much as $300 if it was a bearing. I went ahead and scheduled the appointment. The technician, who did not seem aware of the nature of the problem until I told him, didn't even move the machine out. He only rotated the drum a little bit, showed me that the drum was looser than it should be, did some research on his phone and in 5 minutes told me that shaft and bearing would be $1024 to repair. When I told him what I had sent in on the Homestar description and what I told the person at the store, he just said "Oh Yeah" as if to say it was obvious what the problem was. It could easily have been diagnosed over the phone and I could have been spared the service call, as one reviewer was lucky enough to experience. This was a total waste of $120.72 (down the drain?:-). I take responsibility as I did not phone around, just trusted the reviews on Homestars. I recommend getting two or three opinions and trying to talk to a knowledgeable person before committing to an expensive service call. Oh well, lesson learned and I off to buy a new washing machine!

Dear Taylor,
I'm sorry to hear that the repair did not go as anticipated. With over 30+ years experience in the appliance service industry I can't begin to count the amount of times I have given free advice out over the phone. With the complexity of today's modern appliances it's pretty difficult to properly diagnose a noise over the phone as I'm sure you can imagine. That's why we most times need to book a service appointment to take a proper looked to determine the issue. As an example, have you ever called your medical doctor and told him you had a pain in your side and then explain in detail that you have Utube'd and Goggled the symptoms and only needed his diagnosis over the phone? Sounds pretty absurd right; however that is exactly what you have indicated we did as a foul play on our part.
If we would have guessed that your main tub and bearings were failing and it turned out to be what we normally see as item's jammed between the drums you would have been pretty upset to say the least. I personally think you did the smart thing and called us the professionals, that were able to quickly diagnose and provide an accurate estimate on the spot for the cost of a service call. Sounds fair to me, and from what I can see we did exactly what was promised without any compromise. I'm sorry you felt it was a waste of money as I've been in your shoes many times feeling the same way. The fact is that a professional and honest opinion is worth every penny paid.
We would have been more than happy to discuss some sort of discount prior to this negative review. Hopefully 30+ years of experience accounts for something.
Sincerely,
Steve Krause
Dear Taylor,
Thank you for your mature response, as well as changing the rating. If I can help in anyway please let me know as I would be more than happy to help.
Sincerely,
Steve

This is the second time we have used Keith My furnace guy. Keith provides the best service you could ask for. I have full confidence in his assessment of our furnace and any identification of problems. I recommended him to my daughter and son-in-law and he provided the same level of caring service to them. I highly recommend Keith!

After the purchase, a reputable furnace cleaning company was hired to service and clean the furnace and ducts. He immediately stated that the furnace was unsafe, violated several safety codes and never should have passed inspection. He stated that anybody with a limited knowledge of heating and ventilation would easily see things such as the furnace chimney butting up against the drywall with no insulation and a complete lack of ventilation for a tiny room in which the hot water heater and furnace was enclosed. He noted this as a very high safety hazard and was incredulous that the home inspector did not identify such critical deficiency.. Shortly after moving in, a serious, though slow leak, from the brand new dishwasher resulted in the need to re-tile the kitchen floor (new floor as part of the renovation). This was due to a missing washer in the supply line. The problem could have been identified if the home inspector had taken the time and effort to look closely under the dishwasher. This home inspector promised a 45 page detailed report. In fact, it was a 22 page report duplicated. 98% was boiler plate text with generic descriptions of various facets of a typical home. He missed a couple of issues that had been discussed but when phoned later, refused to modify the report to include these issues. He had promised photos and there were exactly 3. Throughout the inspection, the inspector talked about what a great deal this house was. He seemed much more interested in the sale going through than in providing critical information that would help the buyers who were paying for his services. Such a disappointment.

Keith did an excellent job of explaining the work he was going to do and reviewing the status of our furnace. He even air washed a filter that had been used by previous owners but still good, and was superior to an overly thick filter that I had recently purchased and using. I felt very confident with the work completed by Keith and would highly recommend him to others. Also, will definitely be calling him again!

We had a cement retaining wall in front of our house that was quite unattractive. Diamond Fireplace and Stone installed Centurion Stone, a beautiful stone veneer. The result was stunning and added greatly to the curb appeal of our home!

We had an air conditioner installed by Arpis. Installers were efficient and courteous. Access to side of house was very awkward. They did a great job in spite of this challenge!

We had this company in previous years. Our lawn was thick and lush by the end of the season. They applied fertilizer and weed control in a timely way. Very happy with them!

Roofers were polite and cleaned up themselves. They were easy to get along with. Some of the shingles were not cut evenly as seen from upper bedrooms. Not a big deal, but sort of expected a bit more attention to detail for the amount we paid. Also there was a limited selection of shingles to choose from. Overall a good company.

Thanks, Taylor, for taking the time to post about your experience with Epic. Your comment about the limited selection of shingles raises the question of whether the options available were limited by the replacement value price range from an insurance claim or the project budget. We will be sure, based on your note, to make sure our future customers are aware of the full range of options. If you have a moment, please send some photos of the uneven cuts you can see to the project manager you dealt with so that our service techs and auditors can review them. Thanks again for your input.

I am extremely disappointed with the service provided by Dr. Green. I paid in full for the "Very Best Treatment Plan" on April 25th, as I wanted to get a head start this year, get early fertilization and get ahead of dandelion season. After three weeks there was no service and weeds started to explode. I emailed and they marked it as priority to come out ASAP. On May 20 they finally came and applied fertilizer but no weed spray. On the receipt left in the mailbox they indicated we needed power raking yet our lawn had just been power raked three weeks earlier by another company. After waiting another couple of weeks I emailed and phoned indicating that out lawn was being taken over with weeds. No action resulted. Meanwhile we were phoned on May 29th and told that Dr. Green would be out to do areation the next day. Another phone call late in the afternoon on the 30th saying they were on their way and by the way "would we like overseeding at the same time?" We said no thanks, just the aeration. They never showed up so after waiting a week I phoned to find out why. I was told that that service person marked down that it could not be done because we had not marked our sprinkler heads. This was absolutely untrue, as we had indeed marked our sprinkler heads well ahead of time. Upon probing I found out they they could not find our house due to a minor error in the recorded address (even though the person who came out for the first fertilizer application found the house OK) . If the service person had told the truth, I would not have had to phone back to get the aeration I paid for, which was eventually done on June 9th. Still no weed control. Finally, though, on June 25th Dr Green came and applied the second application of fertilizer and the first application of weed control. On the receipt they marked down that we also needed aeration, which as I have already said was done by their own company just over two weeks earlier - the plugs were still on the ground! Needless to say, our lawn is a mess and it will take the rest of the season and part of next for the lawn to be restored and the weeds completely choked out. But next year I will be going with a different company or just do it myself. Dr. Green has friendly cheerful people on the phone and they really want to be a good company. But they have problems with internal communication and the folks who come to do the service don't seem to know much about lawn care.

Hey Taylor, I am extremely sorry to hear about your experience with Dr. Green. The way our program works is each visit is spaced out 4 to 5 weeks. The fertilizer we use lasts about the same time so your lawn gets fed every month. Also the first visit is strictly a fertilizer, just to wake up your lawn. We do start our season in April, same month you called in, so that is probably why we hadn't come out till May. Needless to say we do try to start your program as soon as possible. I would really like to take care of your account personally so issues like the aeration and the recommendations don't occur. Email me at pbrar@doctorgreen.com if you wish.
