Great small company to work with for this type of work. Shane and his team are really proud of their work and very careful and helpful as they get the job done. Scheduling was easy. Looks amazing now!

repair to cove molding and textured ceiling

Shane did an amazing job of recreating a large section of very badly water- damaged cove molding as well as repairing ceiling cracks in our 1930's house. The new crown molding matches the existing molding exactly and watching Shane build and shape it by hand, layer by layer, was amazing. Similarly, he was very careful to match the texture of the crack repairs to the original texture of the ceiling. He and his co-worker, Joe, were pleasant to have around and carefully covered and screened everything as well as moving furniture as required. It was initially difficult to get hold of Shane because he was so busy but I'm so glad I persevered - especially since he is leaving Canada to return to Ireland. What a loss!

Plaster repair of wall and ceiling

Shane was quick to set up an appointment that he kept (which was a refreshing change from most contractors that I have dealt with). He gave me a straight forward price quote right there instead of having to wait a few days for someone to get back to me. Once the work began, I was even more impressed. The work areas were fully sealed off to prevent dust from travelling throughout the house. Even the floors were covered with heavy paper. What I thought would be a two day job took six morning to late evening sessions. It turned out that the damage went right to the brick. Shane removed everything, and one ceiling ended up needing to be completely replaced. And all staying within the quoted price. His work is IMPECABILE!! Patches were undetectable. Patterns in the plaster ceilings were matched perfectly. He takes his time and does the work as if it was his house. I waited three months to write this review because I wanted to see if any cracks appeared in his work. So far everything is still perfect. Do not confuse drywall work and plastering. Plastering is a true art, taking countless years to perfect and Shane is an artist in every sense of the word. I would put his skill level on par (if not exceeding) that of my cardiologist. No joke, he is that good.

Plastering - old ceiling

Shane was always prompt and punctual with phone calls, appointments or at least provided a heads up when he was running behind. For the job itself he showed up on time and completed it on time and did a great job cleaning up afterwards. Based on my experiences this is great- and the quality of the work was exceptional. He matched an old plaster ceiling after a water leak- one would hardly know. I would highly recommend him and his team.

Plaster Wall

First things first, he came for the consultation with a meeting organizer! This already meant to me that he is organized, which is more than I can say for some tradespeople I've had to work with. We set a date about 2-3 weeks from the consult date.

On the day of, Shane was running a few minutes behind and actually called to let me know. For people who have had the experience of taking a half day or entire day off to wait for contractors, you know this type of thoughtfulness is golden!

Shane came by and fixed the plaster wall in my son's room. He found out later that the work quoted was slightly bigger than originally thought but did not end up charging more. Work was left as clean as can be expected and done within reasonable time.

As we live in a 100-year old house, I'm quite sure that we will have a chance to work with Shane again!

Popcorn Ceiling Removal

Shane did a great job replacing the popcorn ceiling in the living room with a smooth one. Shane asked enough questions when I first called for a quote to show me he was truly picturing and quoting the job. He arrived when he said he would to look at the ceiling and provide a final quote, and did a great job of explaining the options and making his recommendation. He kept the date we originally set, and the final bill was exactly what he quoted. The ceiling looked fantastic afterwards, exactly how he'd described it, and he left my place spotless afterwards. I'm very glad I went with Shane, and would highly recommend him to anyone else.

REPAIRING AN 80 YEAR OLD CEILING

Shane came highly recommended through the recommendations on Home Stars. He assessed the badly damaged ceiling and was very prompt in giving us a price and completing the job quickly in a very professional workmanlike manner. He was very meticulous in making sure that the walls and floors were covered and the job cleaned up quickly after completion. We would highly recommend McDermott Plastering. He is a true gentleman and a fabulous plasterer.

Ceiling plastering

This review is a long time coming. Shane was very quick to come look at my severely textured ceiling and quote the project. His professionalism was extremely appreciated throughout the entire project. Without going into detail there were unforeseen underlying issues, and Shane worked tirelessly (and I mean it) to understand and correct the unfortunate turn of events. I can say without a doubt that almost any other tradesman would have left me in the lurch, to deal with a disaster on my own. His pride of workmanship and attention to fine finishing were greatly appreciated, and I would not hesitate to recommend McDermott Plastering to anyone looking for impeccable results. I would love to have Shane over to work on future projects, I'm just worried he might be scared off! Don't waste your time looking elsewhere, this is who you need to finish the job period. Well done Shane.
