Hi Megan, thank you for taking your time to write a review. Exterior tap requires some attention before winter comes. Every year, our plumbers in Toronto have to repair or replace broken garden taps. It is very important to turn off the valve that supply outside faucet and drain (!) remaining of water from a pipe that penetrates exterior wall. Another, not less important thing is to disconnect a hose. We had case when homeowner installed fancy frost-free self-draining tap and decided that he is safe. However, he forgot to disconnect a hose and water was not drained from pipe that caused burst inside of brick wall. When Spring comes, he just turn the tap on and used hose for 15 min. After he came to the basement and discovered flood. His mistake was keeping hose attached to the valve all winter long and it did not allow for tap to do "self-draining ". Galvanized and lead pipes cause many problems like leaks on joints, low water pressure, contaminated water etc. Those pipes are 60+ years old and no wonder it is an issue. New copper and PEX are used for replacement. In your case, underground main water service pipe was replaced with 3/4" copper in order to keep current ground wire connected to it and, therefore, not violating electrical codes. Thank you for writing a review. Problems with underground drain clay pipes happen because of their age. For last 30 years, plumbers use only PVC pipes for sewer installation. Many houses in Toronto have original main drain that is 80+ years old. Short pieces of clay pipes settle down, roots penetrate through joints and this leads eventually to pipe collapse. In such cases, replacement with PVC is the better solution compared to sewer pipe liner. We use individual approach to every drain issue to make sure new sewer will last for a long time. Thanks.
