Nightmare after buying defective fridge: CAS was useless

I hate giving bad reviews but I really had no choice with the GE Profile PNE25NSLKSS; it is by far the worst kitchen appliance I have ever owned. The lowest score I can give is one star (which is really 0) so I am giving one added star for my salesperson, who I think actually tried to help me. Other than that, this fridge was a nightmare from day 1 and buying from Canadian Appliance Source was an even bigger mistake. This fridge was D.O.B. (Defective Out of Box), I had to make a service call to GE the day after it arrived, when I first plugged it in. It immediately made a ridiculously loud rattling noise, which has to be heard to be believed. I could not leave it plugged in as it would wake the house (no exaggeration, seriously). I first called CAS and they did nothing for me other than to say call GE service and if I wanted to return the fridge it would cost me a 25% restocking fee, despite the fact that it was clearly defective. One of the shelves also arrived bent (not that big a deal, it happens). The GE repairman they sent the next day (which was nice) said that the noise it was making was the ice maker and this was NORMAL FOR THIS MODEL and the only fix was to physically disconnect its power supply from the main unit, which is what we did. So now I have a fridge that I paid extra for an advanced ice maker and filter system that can't be used unless you like being woken up at night every 45 minutes. The shelf was also replaced, which came in the mail about 2 weeks later. The next problem we experienced was that the fridge would go into what I call power cooling mode (the same as when it first starts cooling after you first plug it in). This is a normal sound, just noticeably louder than normal operation. Unplugging it briefly fixed this. Now it is freezing my liquids near the back of the fridge despite being set to 37. Overall, this fridge is a nightmare and clearly defective, I regret buying it, especially from CAS. AVOID GE FRIDGES AND CAS!!!

Thank you for your review. We are a retail store so all our appliances are sold as-is when shipped from the manufacturer hence the reason for the 1-year manufacturer's warranty. I am pleased to hear that a technician was sent out quickly to address your concerns. There isn't a 25% restocking fee charged for an appliance with functional issues instead it's addressed under the manufacturer's warranty. I am sorry you have not been satisfied with the performance of the appliance. We aren't able to control how the unit is built to function but we would be more than happy to share your feedback with GE as it relates to your experience using it.

Do not purchase from here

I have never had such a poor experience with a Canadian company, it is still hard to believe. I waited to post a negative review to see if my problem will be solved but it shows to indication. I have paid for a new fridge and had it delivered within a few days. The control panel doesn't work and I'm unsure if the issue is from the door installation or a broken fridge. This company has me waiting to hear back from the manufacturer and going through an exchange process for a new appliance instead or delivering me a working one. The agents are rude, they don't sign their names over email communications, have not heard from the sales agent that sold me this. I have paid 2000 for a fridge and do not have an indication of resolution in sight. At this point I am not even sure if this is a real company and I would not recommend transacting with them. There are plenty of other choices, make sure you skip over this one.

A great deal and even better customer service

It was approaching Christmas and my stove died. I looked online for a new one. I ended up calling CAS’ customer service and spoke with Jason Boyer. He helped me find exactly what I was looking for. He found me a great deal with delivery that couldn’t be beat.
I will be back!

Terrible service and company

I made the mistake of purchasing appliances from Canadian Appliance Source (CAS) twice and they were not great the first time (washer & dryer) and unfortunately even worse the second time, when I purchased a fridge. Management and staff take absolutely no accountability for their products or dreadful delivery team. I received a fridge that was missing parts and was leaking on my wooden floor. I contacted the store twice to ask for assistance and they simply referred me to the delivery team who suggested I go purchase the missing part from any hardware store and that it was easy to find. I attempted to get the missing part myself at two retailers, and neither fit properly. It was now after 8pm and I had to finally give-up and contact a plumber who went out and purchased the correct part and by the time he installed it, it cost me $492.00. I followed up with CAS again because I didn't think it was fair that I paid nearly $500 to get & install a part that should have never been missing from a brand new fridge and once again they accepted 0 responsibility and blamed the manufacturer. For a large appliance company that relies on repeat customers such as me to treat me this way and simply dismiss me has been extremely disappointing. If you sell and deliver products (I paid and $80 delivery fee) and ask consumers to buy from you at least back the products and support customers when there is clearly something wrong with the product. This company will eventually go out of business if they keep treating their customers the way they have treated me.

Very disappointed with product and service

I wish I had researched Canadian Appliance Source as well as I did the exhaust hood that I purchased.
The salesperson at the Kitchener store was helpful and knowledgeable but the rest of the experience has been dreadful. I picked up the exhaust hood box at the end of December 2019. The box was not taped but the warehouse person assured me that the tape had come loose. When I checked the product, I found scratched stainless steel on two parts and places where protective film had been cut away. I think I was given a damaged return rather than a new product. CAS took my report and promised replacement parts. This was in early January and it is now March. My enquiries are referred to the manufacturer who says "two more weeks" every time I follow up. They won't take it back and they don't return my calls. I held off on making a negative review as I hoped they would resolve the situation. The review link is no longer working. I would never shop there again.

Thank you for your review. I am sorry to hear that your after-sales experience was less than satisfactory. We pride ourselves on selling brand new appliances that are in their original packaging from the manufacture. We have no knowledge of damages beforehand. The appliances are covered under a 1-year manufacturer's warranty that
requires damages to be reported within 24 – 48 hours of delivery/pick-up. This is enforced by the
manufacturer and presently not under our control. I am pleased to hear that you are being assisted with the replacement parts. The timeframe on this sadly is not one that we can expedite. I trust that you have received the necessary parts since then.

Avoid At All Costs

I wish I had read these reviews before setting foot in Canadian Appliance Source.

I purchased a $6,000 Thermadore oven in January which came with packaged with a Thermadore dishwasher. The alarm should have gone off when I had to sign and consent to Canadian Appliance Source's no refund or return policy.

When the delivery truck arrived, the primary deliveryman presented me with a form to sign-off that I'd inspected the items and that they were undamaged. I responded that I would sign it once it was delivered safely inside. He said it wasn't worth his time to take it off the truck, unless I signed it now, which I regret doing.

When the installers came the next day, they stated that both the oven and dishwasher were delivered with broken parts and could not be installed. I called Canadian Appliance Source and there is no person or department that will deal with these issues directly. I was sent a link to an online form to file a claim. With Canadian Appliance Source as no help, I contacted Thermadore directly to arrange for a replacement part and work with their local subcontractor to repair the items which is still ongoing.

The Canadian Appliance Source salespeople will say anything to close the sale and will disappear the moment there's an issue. I called the salesperson who sold me the items in the vain hope they would care or do something. They said they would look into it right away and call me back - it's been weeks and I've heard nothing.

To anyone reading these reviews - there is no discount or deal that makes it worth your while to purchase from Canadian Appliance Source.

Thank you for your review. I am sorry to hear that your experience with the delivery company was less than satisfactory. We would be more than happy to share your feedback with them so any necessary improvements can be made. All our appliances are sold in original packaging from the manufacturer so we aren't aware of any damages beforehand. The online form that you were directed to but did not complete is used to process requests for a service call or a return/exchange. This would have allowed us to be able to help since you were still inside the 24-48 hour window to report damages. The unit is covered under warranty by the manufacturer so I am pleased to hear that you have reached out and is being assisted. My apologies on behalf of the salesperson for not following us with you as promised. Feel free to email us at cs@caslp.ca if you have any further need for assistance.

Terrible customer service, damaged appliance

I needed a fridge asap. The website said same day service. when I called I missed the time frame for same day (I called at 1 pm). So we arranged with an additional fee to have it delivered the next day. The fridge arrived damaged and dented. This was visible from the packaging but since I needed it, the company thought that I would accept a damaged product.
The most the company would offer me is a 10% discount. This is not acceptable. Talked to customer service and got no satisfaction. Waiting to return the damaged fridge. Would never shop here again.

Company Response

Thank you for your review. My apologies that your appliance arrived damaged. In reviewing your order and your call with the salesperson, I understand that the salesperson advised you on your call that due to the fact that you had called around 1:00pm that we would not be able to deliver on the same date but we would be able to deliver the following day. You did say you were disappointed that it could not be delivered the same day but you agreed to delivery the next day.

As our regular delivery trucks had already been scheduled, when the salesperson scheduled your delivery our system automatically charged the next day delivery fee of $99.00 compared to the regular fee of $79.95. On the call, the salesperson did quote a price of $79 for delivery so I have credited the difference of $20.00 to your order.

With regard to the damages, unfortunately, there are times when there is concealed damage on an appliance that is not known until the packaging is removed. During the delivery process, we offered a damage discount of 10% for you to keep the appliance and this amount was accepted by your husband. Once you saw the appliance, you determined that you did not want to accept the discount and we advised you to fill out our Return Request form. Your request will be reviewed very shortly and you will receive a response today(February 10).

Regards,
CAS

Damaged item delivered, no responsibility!!!

Wow! Do not buy anything from them! There's a reason for their cheaper prices!
I have never in my life experienced such terrible customer service! We purchased 5 appliances from one of their locations and one was delivered broken (box had some damage, appliance too). As the kitchen was only ready for installation a few days after delivery, we did not open all the boxes right away. After contacting them about the defect item and talking to several customer service representatives, they just repeated like parrots that they do not offer any help 48 hours after delivery! No exceptions! Of course, no one mentions this when you purchase items. So we are stuck with a broken product which was not our fault and they do not do anything about it. It is quite possible that they sell you re-used or refurbished products and claim it is brand new. In our case, the protective stickers were partially missing, indicating someone before us may have taken them off... Do not risk you are put in the same situation. It's worth while paying a bit more and dealing with a company that treats their customers with respect and fairness.

Company Response

Thank you for your review. I am sorry to hear that your recent buying experience with us was not satisfactory. If you have the opportunity, please reach out to our Customer Care team at cs@caslp.ca to provide your order number so that we may address your concerns directly.

We pride ourselves on delivering brand new appliances sealed in their original packaging which is not removed until the appliance is provided to the customer. The appliances are covered under a 1-year manufacturer's warranty that requires any physical damages to be reported within 48 hours of delivery. This is enforced by the manufacturer and presently not under our control. You indicated that the box was somewhat damaged and as mentioned on the invoice, you have the right to refuse delivery for damaged appliances/packaging but this was signed and accepted. Feel free to reach out to the manufacturer directly to see if any exception can be made with regards to damages being reported outside of the stipulated timeline. I hope this helps to get the matter addressed.

Dishwasher purchase

The only positive thing that I can say is that Bruce at the Markham showroom was very good. But after that, I must say, that the service was terrible.
What was to have been 2 days for delivery turned out to be 29 days. Then for a fee they would also dispose of the old one if disconnected. So I got it fully disconnected (and even sticking out a few inches for them). When they came, they decided quickly that they couldn't get it out.
I then received a call from one of their service people, who lectured me that they don't disconnect the machines. And would not listen to what I was saying that it indeed was disconnected and even sticking out.
I asked if they would come back and take it away as they were supposed to do in the first place, after our installer comes to install the new one and take it out for them. She curtly said that no, that would be an extra 90.00 service charge to come back to pick it up.
Clearly this conversation was going around in circles and was very frustrating indeed. I will be disposing of this old dishwasher myself, and never calling on them again. Very disappointing service.

Thank you for your review. I am sorry to hear that you were not completely satisfied with your experience with us. We have reviewed your account and based on the information on file it shows that your dishwasher though disconnected was stuck or extremely tight in the space in your home.

Unfortunately, the delivery team was unable to complete the removal of your dishwasher out of fear of causing damage to your property. We strive to ensure all services are completed in a safe and efficient manner. We have processed a full refund for the removal service as this was not completed.
