Driveway resurfacing and pavers nalong side

My wife and I are completely satisfied by the work and professionalism of stone-ridge paving. They gave us a quote, a date when the driveway was to be unsurfaced, and an exact date (June 5th) as to when the job would be completed. They were bang on with timing and I cant believe how good our driveway looks. I would recommend this company to anyone looking to re-do their driveway or to even spice it up a bit with some pavers or stone work. I will be contacting them in the future to re-do our back and side patio. Kudo's to Sal and the rest of the boys for the great work

Driveway paved, interlocking steps and walkway

My husband and I signed a contract with Stone Ridge to completely redo the front of our home. They were a few days late due to weather conditions which my husband and I completely understood and are very aware that weather is a factor in such a business.
The end results were amazing. Sal and Leo made sure everything was to perfection and asked our opinion many times to ensure that we were getting exactly what we wanted.
The crew was polite and everything was cleaned before they left.
Thank you Stone Ridge for a job WELL done. I would reccommend you to any of my neighbours or family.

Sidewalk, steps, driveway

I have had many people knock on my door over the years to replace my driveway, I was glad to give Stone Ridge my business due to the knowleadge Lou provided regarding the challenges of my property. Lou and his team did an amazing job on my house. It's been 8 months now and I still have people telling me how great my driveway and entrance to my house looks.
Highly recommend Stone Ridge.

DON'T EVER HIRE STONE RIDGE!!! YOU'RE ASKING FOR A NIGHTMARE!!

Below is the complaint sent to the Better Business Bureau regarding Stone Ridge Paving:

I am writing to convey my extreme displeasure with Stone-Ridge Ltd. and their idea of conducting a professional business.
We were given an illegal contract (no terms and conditions stated)from the company upon leaving a deposit of $400.00, which never stated a date for job to begin, nor date of completion, but only confirming amount owing to them.
We were not given an option to have them remove our deck at a cost, we were told that was our responsibility. We complied and approximately one week later they arrived to tear the asphalt from our driveway.
Since then we had called in a civil manner numerous times to inquire when they would be back to complete the job and the contact would inconsistently answer, each time with unacceptable excuses, such as precipitation, which has been minimal, as well as stating, "We have 9 other driveways to do before yours so wait your turn." About a month has gone by and this timeframe for completion is unheard of.
Our driveway has been left unsafe with firstly an 18" drop to enter our front door, as well as a 6" drop from the public sidewalk to where our driveway has been dug out, leaving us as the home owners liable should a passer-by injure themselves on our property.
In the past week the company representative has been avoiding calls, and claims he will meet with us to pacify our concerns, yet doesn't show up.
In one discussion regarding the unsafe entry-way to our home in the meantime, we were advised it was our responsibility to build our own step to enter the home as we wait indefinitely for them to complete the job.
In concluding that this company has no concern for the safety and satisfaction of their customers, and furthermore lack of professionalism to say the least, we advised we would like to void the contract amicably from this point. The representative suddenly advises there is a $200 charge to do so.
To my utmost disappointment, the representative felt the need to become irate and engaged in a verbal, nearly physical dispute over the matter.

HERE IS STONE-RIDGE PAVING’S RESPONSE to the BBB in response to JLS’s complaint to BBB

On April 14 JLS entered into an agreement /contract with us. He may call it an “illegal” contract but it has been reviewed by a Lawyer prior to printing and it has been binding for the past 16 years. We never provided John with the option to remove his deck at a cost because we are not a contracting company but a “Paving” company. 5 days after signing the contract we excavated the driveway and the trenches for the curbs. If he reviews his contract there is no start or end date stipulated nor was one given at the time of signing the CONTRACT. (Since JLS never requested one) Our company’s (as well as other paving company’s practice) is that once the driveway is dug, the waiting period is 4 -6 weeks for the driveway to be paved. This allows the driveway to settle and the gravel that we laid to harden. If you go to our website you will see this in the illustration of paving a driveway. Unfortunately, JLS took down his own porch prior to being given a completion date. We never advised him to take them down at that point. The week of May 7 we received a phone call from JLS and he was demanding that we attend his job that day to form and pour the concrete. The secretary advised him that we were not able to attend that day but would be able to give him and Mr. L #84 a date. He was rude to our secretary. The other employees in the office overheard his screaming. Our Secretary does not get paid enough to take verbal abuse. On May 9 JLS came to one of our job sites with his son and another individual. He was verbally abusive to the owners and employees. He actually took time out of his busy day to come and harass us on someone else’ property. One of the employees actually thought JLS was going to hit Sal that he ran to them. JLS wants a release from the contract because he states that we did not return to form his concrete curb within 10 working days after we have excavated (not a month as per JLS). As Sal advised JLS we had had several rainy days (7 to be exact) since JLS job was excavated. Depending on how much rain falls we are not able to pour concrete and therefore our forms are tied up on job sites. If JLS wants to cancel his contract he has to provide us with an additional $400 to cover our cost for the work performed at his home ie, excavation, dumping, gravel, employee costs, gas, fuel, and our time. We cannot control Mother Nature and therefore it is not due to our lack of professional service that we could not make impatient customers happy. In addition, we would like the BBB to advise JLS if he ever attends any of Stone Ridge’s job sites again the police will be called and harassment charges will be laid. We no longer want to do any work for him.

Interlocking Patio

Our neighbors were having a driveway installed by Stone-Ridge Paving, so we called Sal Romeo to come over and quote on an interlocking job we had in mind.He came over that afternoon, was very personable, and patiently answered all our questions regarding colour, design choice etc. After a very competitive quote, we set up an install date. Leading up to the install when we had additional questions, Sal returned our calls promptly and addressed all our concerns. On the day of the install, Sal and his crew arrived on time and were very professional and courteous. He and his crew offered several tweaks to enhance our project during the install which we adopted, and this resulted in a very high quality of installation which exceeded our expectations in all aspects. We believe that Stone-Ridge Paving and Interlocking offers very good value for the money and excellent workmanship, with the added bonus of a courteous and professional crew which was a pleasure to work with! We would not hesitate to recommend Stone-Ridge to our family and friends.

Driveway Replace

2 1/2 months back we had Stone-Ridge Paving replace our driveway. After 1 month cracks started to appear. We called them many times and finally they came and filled them. We have noticed that the crackes are speading and MANY MANY MORE have appeared. We were told about Stone-Ridge reputation from my mother and brother in-law who had there driveways replace by Stone-Ridge 2 years ago and they are a mess.Marchello was a smooth talker and we fell for it.
DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND NEVER NEVER HIRE STONE-RIDGE PAVING. Pass this on to your family and friends, we sure have.

Company Response

We were contacted by the Smith's this past week and on Sunday August 22 we attended their home. We reviewed their complaint and decided that the issue was not to our fault and therefore was not a warranty issue. When we originally attended the home to provide them with a new driveway Sal from Stone-Ridge had advised Mrs. Smith that we had found a broken cable and pipe on the bottom portion of her driveway and recommended that she get it fixed and we would return at a later point. Obviously this recommendation would have costed us as we had already brought our crew and equipment to her home, paid travelling costs to the employees and had excess asphalt sitting in our truck. Mrs. Smith indicated that she didn't care because she was selling her home and to go ahead and do it even though we told her that he driveway would break/ crack. We followed her instructions.

Mrs. Smith is complaining that she has a hairline crack on the top portion of her driveway. On Sunday we advised her that the area has a hairline crack because she has a city tree root growing under her driveway and has caused upward pressure on her driveway. As indicated in our warranty clause in our contract this is not warrantied since we cannot control this external factor. Mrs. Smith insisted that we redo her driveway. We advised her that even if we wanted to redo the driveway it would crack again since the issue (the tree root) would still exist. She insisted that there is no tree root.

HOWEVER, in order to provide good customer satisfaction we advised Mrs. Smith that were willing to provide her with 3 options. (1) We would remove the driveway asphalt and if there was a tree root she would have to have it removed and then pay our expense at cost to have her driveway repaved. She disagreed. (2) We can fill in the hairline crack with new technology and have her driveway sealed at our cost. She disagreed. (3) Lastly, we walkaway as it is not our fault.
Mrs. Smith threatened to make Stone-Ridge's life miserable by using her authority.
Please note that the Smith's say that they were told of our supposed "reputation" from their mother and brother-in-law, then why would a reasonable person go with the same company.
We strive to be #1 in our industry and provide excellent customer satisfaction. We do not like to be taken advantage of. We are based on referrals and therefore keeping our clients happy and doing a good job is important to us. Before taking Mr. and Mrs. Smith's advice seriously kindly attend their home [address removed--Ed] and look at their driveway.

Driveway Asphaulted

I would NOT recomment Stone Ridge Paving to anyone. Like Michelle I was stupid to hire a salesman that came to my door. Actually, it wasn't the salesman I had a problem with...it was the owner Sal. My salesman did up the contract on May 7, 2010 at which I signed the same day. He told me that they would be back in 5 WEEKS to finish the job. 5 weeks went by, no one showed or called. 7 weeks went by same thing. I figured they got busy...no worries. Finally at 11 weeks after me spending one week in the hospital I called my salesman to ask what was going on and he told me to call the office, so I did. At which time I was speaking to the secretary Anita, who basically said it was my fault that the job had not been finished because I, the customer, didn't call them. After about 15 minutes of having to listen to her because she wouldn't let me say my peice I told her to get Sal to call me. Sal is the owner and the most ignorant person I have ever had to deal with. He too told me that it was my fault for not phoning sooner. He too would hardly let me speak and told me that he would be at my house the very next day, less than 24 hrs after the rude phone calls, to do my driveway. I approached him with the question "what sort of discount was he going to give me" and he laughed and said I was getting NOTHING. Funny thing was, during all of this, all I was wanting was an appology...but that would never happen. He started to get rude once again so I told him that I didn't need to hear him treat me like this, I would have my husband call him so I hung up. He then called me right back and left a nasty message on my answering machine about how I was so rude to hang up on him and that because of me hanging up he didn't know if he was to show up to my house the next day and gave me one hour to call him back. Ya, I was going to get right on that. 15 min. later my salesman calls me because at this point Sal got him involved but yet he would have nothing to do with it earlier. I told him what he wanted to hear and let my husband deal with him. I had no plans on allowing them back onto my property and once my husband contacted the salesman, Frank threatened to put the asphalt that they took 11 weeks earlier back onto my driveway. It's a shame that people have nerve to treat people this way. Perfect customer service--NOT. STONE RIDGE PAVING IS THE WORST COMPANY BY FAR. They want your business but once they have it...they treat you terribly. I would not recomment this company to my worst enemy...and so far they are my only enemies. Good Luck Sal...

driveway paving

In July we had our driveway paved by Stone Ridge Paving. One of their salesmen by the name of Dino was canvassing the neighbourhood for business and gave us an estimate of $1000 to do the work. We went against our policy of doing business with salespeople who go door to door selling their product but did so anyway as they seemed to be a reputable company. The first red flag that went up was when Dino came over to our house for us to sign the deal and refused to take a coupon, that was in a widely distributed brochure with savings for various home renovations, saying he had nothing to do with the coupon and couldn't honor it as it was put in by another salesman. The coupon was for $100 off if the job was $1000 minimum. Well, our driveway was $1000 and Dino refused to give us the discount but, for some reason, he honored the coupon for another person in our area. We should have stopped the deal right there, unfortunately we didn't.
The job they did on our driveway is terrible and we are not satisfied with it for a number of reasons which we have been trying to contact the company about for more than three weeks now and are getting nowhere. They keep telling us someone will drop by when they are in the area but we keep telling them all we want first is a simple phone call, which they can't even return.
This is the worst customer service we have ever experienced from any company we have ever dealt with and we WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY TO ANYONE to do work for them. Our next step is to contact the Better Business Bureau and the Toronto Star if necessary.

March 29, 2010:
We have read the response to our complaint from Sal Rumero at Stone Ridge Paving and we would like to comment on his statement.

We are responding to Stone Ridge Paving's response to our initial review of the unsatisfactory paving job we had on our driveway.
In their response they mentioned that they received a phone call from me a 'few weeks' after our driveway was paved to complain about 'animal urine stains' on our driveway. If Stone Ridge recorded their customers' phone calls properly they would know that,
1)1 did call to see if someone could pass by to give an opinion about a "strange" spot on our driveway and it was not a 'few weeks later' it was during the 7 day settling period right after the job was done before we started parking in the driveway again. We NEVER mentioned animal urine because we had no idea what the marks were from.
2) You mentioned we received a visit shortly after our initial call regarding the matter and you confirmed that, in fact, it was an animal urine stain. Again this is false. If we received a visit it was while we were not home because no on ever responded, at least not to us, about my initial call to come and visit us to look at the spot. You may have talked to a neighbour or someone, but not to us. In fact after my initial call we never heard anything at all about the matter.
It was at this time we started noticing unsatisfactory problems with the quality of the job. Even after weeks of numerous calls to Stone Ridge we still did not get called back so we took the matter to the BBB.
The fact that you can put in writing that, and I quote: "we have since resolved this issue through additional communications" is completely false. How could you possibly say this? We never once gave you the impression we are satisfied. As you know, Mr. [last name removed --Ed], we are still not, and will not be happy with this driveway, but we are stuck with it now. If you are going to respond to our review, respond with honest statements.

Company Response

Stone-Ridge Paving would like to take this opportunity to clarify Michelle’s concerns:

1.Our company advertisement offering $100.00 discount applies to jobs which exceed $1000.00. Michelle’s neighbour’s driveway exceeded $1000 and therefore qualified for the discount.

2.Our company received one phone call from Michelle a few weeks after her driveway was completed and the concern/complaint was an animal urine stain on the driveway. Michelle did receive a visit shortly after her initial call regarding the matter and confirmed that in fact it was an animal urine stain. Unfortunately Stone Ridge Paving cannot guarantee a stain free driveway.

3.Michelle was once again visited directly by the owner of Stone Ridge Paving after her claim against Stone Ridge Paving with the BBB and has since resolved this issue through additional communications.

4.Michelle was never once mislead regarding discounts and had an opportunity to choose another contractor if she felt uncomfortable about the terms of our discount.

5.Stone Ridge Paving understands and appreciates Michelle’s concerns and we apologise if the terms of our discount did not meet her expectations.

6.Stone Ridge Paving customer service is taken seriously and we address our customers concerns as per the terms of our contract.
