New Lennox Furnace installation

This is the best decision we've made so far to have Gandy help us installing our a new furnace. Thanks Robert for your informative suggestion from the sales part and Jason did a excellent job of not only installed the furnace but also rebuilt our duct work in the furnace room. Not to mention that the new filter we have now works perfect!! What a pleasure to working with both of you, we definitely have you install our conditioner next summer for sure!

Heat Pump Installation

I decided to install a heat pump at my home through Costco services which was sub-contracted out to Gandy Installations. Although I was satisfied with the install at first, the heat pump started acting up during the beginning of the winter. It won't work in the morning leaving our house cold and the thermostat which was also installed by Gandy, won't turn on our furnace which is our backup heat. Other times, only the furnace would turn on but this defeat the purpose of having the heat pump as it should be the primary heating source. The outdoor temperature sensor is acting up too as the outdoor temperature can be 5c one minute, then 0.5c the next minute, and then 3c the next. I called Gandy to request a technician to come out and check the heat pump and thermostat and they said that I have to pay a service call fee and labour. Are you kidding me? you guys didn't install it properly and now I have to pay to have you guys take a look at your job? and this is after paying a higher than normal fee for the heat pump? And Gandy is endorsed by Costco? Not happy at all. I called Costco to complain so hopefully they will do something about this. But if you are going to use their service, I would caution you to do your due dilligence as this company doesn't appear to back up their work.

Hi Marshall, I am sorry to hear that you have been having issues with your heat pump. I apologize for the miscommunication about you being charged for your service call. Your purchase included a 10 year parts warranty and 3 year labour warranty so you do still have full coverage on repairs. A technician was out today to asses your system, if you are still having issues please feel free to phone the office and speak directly to the service manager, or general manager, and we will make sure that you are fully taken care of, and operating properly. Thanks for taking the time to give us some valuable feedback.

Installation of fire dampers & duct type detector

The customer service was awful.

I am legalizing my basement suite so had to put fire dampers into the ducts and install a duct type smoke detector. The city inspector actually recommended Gandy so I thought why not go with it.

Cory came over and gave us a quick quote which was nice. But the quote was vague, with no price breakdowns in any way. Just straight up $1800. I asked for a breakdown and Cory said "it's for the cost of materials with mark up and labour, taking about 4-6 hours". I don't know about you but that's not my idea of a breakdown. Regrettfully, we went with them anyways since I wanted the job done asap.

Day of install, 2 guys showed up 40 minutes late and were done in less than 2 hours. I was out in the garage and didn't get notified that the work was complete. I expected to get a walk through of what was done, or when I could lock up, etc, but no, they just left. At least they had cleaned up after themselves which was great. All that was left were pieces of the ceiling they had cut out. No manual or specs for the special duct detector installed. My electrician needed the specs in order to wire and initialize the duct detector. So I contacted Cory who didn't get back to me until called him again in 2 days to follow up. The guys told him they had left it on the furnace which they didn't. I looked all over the place. Another day later, still no reply about the specs. I ended up having to google it and print out the manual and specs at work b/c the next day the electrician was coming to do the install.

Day of invoice, I got the same vague style bill of $1800. No breakdown of what cost what, how much the labor was, what the markup was, etc etc. I contacted the clerk for a breakdown and instead of getting one, all I got was attitude. She stated I should have requested a detailed breakdown at the time of the quote. Uhhhh... I DID! There seems to be little communication between the office staff and the guys that go out to the jobs. I just don't understand why it is so difficult to get a breakdown. It's not an unreasonable request even though they made me feel like I was asking for the moon. It's almost as if they're hiding something. So frustrating dealing with these people.

I never did get a detailed invoice or an apology for the awful customer service.

Company Response

Hi Mya,

Thank you for taking the time to contact us about the experience you had. We are very sorry to hear that it was a less than positive experience with the representatives of our company and the customer service that you received. We do get a lot of referrals from the city inspectors as they have seen many of the jobs that we have done and recognize that it is typically a cut above the rest when it comes to workmanship. I am disappointed to hear that the service you received was not what you expected. Please understand that we do not typically break down our quotes piece by piece as this takes a considerable amount of time per job and would drive the cost of doing the job up. I believe Cory did give you a break-down of which costs were for labour, and which costs were for material. If you have not yet received this, I would be more than happy to forward you a copy. Although our techs were only there for two hours, it was a 2 person crew – equaling 4 total man hours. Our crew that was there certainly should have taken the time to do a walk through with you, and let you know they were leaving before they left. If you would like us to come back and walk you through the work that was done, I would be happy to send someone back at no extra charge to you to do this. Again, I apologize for the poor customer service you received, and thank you for taking the time to bring it to my attention. If you have any further questions or comments please do not hesitate to contact me at the office (604-534-5555) or email me taylor@gandyinstallations.net.

Thanks,
Taylor Gandy

Hi Jim, thanks for taking the time to post a review. We are happy to hear that the initial install went well, but are sorry to hear of the issues that you had with the equipment after the fact. I have looked at the history on your file and it appears there was a technical issue with the wireless thermostat communicating with the furnace. We have eliminated this issue by hard wiring the thermostat straight to the furnace. This should solve the equipment communication issue. If you still have any problems with the equipment please feel free to contact us again, and we will get someone out right away to take a look at it!

Lennox XP25 Heat Pump & SLP98 Furnace matched system

Wow … Fantastic … Brilliant!! September 2, 2014 ~ Rob & Jason and Mr. Finn [electrician], did a fabulous install, they were all so professional, friendly and a lot of fun to share my home for the day. I liked that they answered all my questions, which were many, they had the courtesy to stop, put down any tool, made excellent eye contact to answer me, then resumed whatever they were doing, I learned so much. Everything was so well done and the clean-up was excellent. I really liked that the installers were here exactly the time as scheduled, they worked non-stop all day! The Lennox XP25 heat pump is so impressive, and to ‘hear’ it run almost silently. Rob & Jason did a really nice and tidy install, well done! The SLP98 furnace is truly fantastic, sooooo quiet!, it makes less noise than my fridge. The installation is impressive! with the venting pipes, copper tubing & drainage below; nice creative ideas how it was all done. I really like that the furnace is constantly moving the air, silently. I have registered the Wi-Fi thermostat so now I can log in with my Blackberry smartphone to control the temperatures, another brilliant idea. The entire experience with Gandy Installations and their staff – is wonderful. Everything is so impressive – can’t stress this enough times. Vic Smith, Coquitlam, BC

Duct cleaning

Our house is over 30 years old and not knowing if the ducts had ever been cleaned out, we called Gandy for service. They arrived with a team of three (one man serviced our furnace while the others did the cleaning) and proceeded to suck out any and all debris in the ductwork. It wasn't too noisy and the team was friendly and answered any questions I had. The service took about an hour and a half and I had no complaints. I call Gandy for any furnace issues I have, and have used them for the last three years.

Approximate cost of services:
$400.00
