Avonlea Kitchen & Bathroom Concepts

Having purchased our first home just two years ago, and this being our first major renovation, we were a little nervous about hiring someone to handle our bathroom reno and expansion. We had heard all the horror stories and didn’t want to end up among them. After some careful research we interviewed three contractors and felt the best about John. His prices were competitive, he seemed to understand what we wanted, he showed up on time, and was willing to answer our many questions. We also liked that we were allowed to source our own fixtures where we wanted to, and relied on John to assist with providing the others. There was never any pressure to choose from a list of products, and we didn’t feel completely on our own when we needed help finding something.

After hiring Avonlea we weren’t disappointed. The project started a couple of days earlier than we expected (with our blessing, of course), Gabriel was wonderful and respectful, he was there every day, and cleaned up after the project every day. John and Dominic came back a few times throughout the reno to make sure that everything was going to plan and had some suggestions on how to handle some things that came up along the way.

In the end we felt respected, and confident in the work that was done. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this team to my friends and family looking for a good contractor who will finish on time, on budget, with quality work, and at a reasonable cost.

We employed Avonlea for our main bathroom renovation in May-June 2011, so this review is horribly overdue.

We had researched several companies through HomeStars, and despite some of the high ratings and immensely positive reviews, we were disappointed with some of the highest-rated businesses. One business simply never responded to our phone call to bid on our project. Yet another contacted us about 2 weeks after our initial phone call and was very defensive about not responding to us immediately, even though we never brought up the subject. Avonlea is a breath of fresh air in the over-saturated Toronto reno market. They responded to our initial contact within a couple of hours. John Miles was over to take a look at the project within days. He showed genuine interest and thoughtfulness in our project (despite its size or price tag) and was courteous, thoughtful, and helpful in his recommendations and estimate.

We decided to move forward with Avonlea simply because they were the most organized and professional business we encountered for this project, and they demonstrated immediately that they were clearly worth trusting to gut and re-do our entire main bath. We didn't once second guess our decision.

The project went very smoothly, with John Miles providing recommendations and advice as we went along, guiding the project from start to finish. When the work starts in your home, a team shows up the first morning to meet with you, discuss the goals of the project, and make sure everyone is on the same page. They do a very good job of ensuring their customers get what they bargained for.

During the project, the fellow - Gabriel - that conducted the actual work on our bathroom was a pleasure to have in our house for 2.5 weeks. He predictably showed up on time, worked diligently, completed that day's work, and cleaned up meticulously on a daily basis throughout the project.

We would recommend Avonlea without any reservation for any kind of renovation for your home. Simply put, they are extremely organized, professional, and know their stuff. They are easy going and will work with you to ensure you have the best possible experience and turn out from the project that you could have anticipated.

Good quality materials are used; they pay attention to detail, and are careful with your home. We would definitely call Avonlea when we start another project . This is the second reno project that Avonlea has done for me and it has been fascinating to watch. Definitely not the headache that many people go through. Understanding exactly what you want is the top priority for this company and then making it happen is the next. The key characteristics of the craftsman who did the work were his many skills, attention to detail, punctuality, and cleanliness,. He was successful in creating the beautiful, cozy room I was hoping for. I have recommended this company to friends and family.

Avonlea did this project when they promised, at the price they agreed and in the time estimated. The materials and workmanship was first class. They made good suggestions and accomodated some changes along the way. A rare, good renovation experience.

Avonlea renovated my small bathroon, taking it from a nasty little bathroom of very poor workmanship with a small tub and low shower head, to a beautiful refinished shower room. They did a complete gut of the room. John was very clear about costs and how they work, so I knew what to expect. Clive who did the majority of the work on the room was hardworking and very pleasant. The renovation took a week longer than expected but then the custom shower doors came in a week earlier than expected, so the job was completed on time and on budget. Only thing to note is that they finish to paint ready. YOu have to bring in your own painter (or paint it yourself). I used the services of Eric Rosser (ericrosserpainter@gmail.com) who is an experienced professional painter. I'm really pleased with how the room has turned out and wouldn't hesitate to recommend Avonlea (or Eric Rosser).

Avonlea put in new kitchen (custom) cabinets, granite countertop, sink, rangehood and backsplash. The workmen were friendly and professional, knew what they were doing, showed up when they said they would, worked hard, and cleaned up afterwards. The price was as agreed, with no surprises along the way. We are very happy with our new kitchen.
