I have an outdoor gas fireplace that was installed with my backyard landscaping over 10 years ago. It recently stopped working. I saw Appleby Systems offered a fireplace repair service, so I called them even though they probably weren't familiar with the brand I had. The technician James from Appleby came and performed a thorough investigation of the issue. He diagnosed that a certain part had failed and that I needed to get a replacement. This proved to be the correct diagnostic. I contacted the manufacturer, which I discovered was based in New Zealand, and purchased a replacement part (the ignition system) from them and had it shipped to me. James then came back and replaced the part which was trickier than expected as the new version of the part wasn't exactly the same as the predecessor. And now I am enjoying my fixed fireplace. I also wanted to mention that working with James and the office staff at Appleby was a pleasant experience as they were very friendly and accommodating. Based on this service, I would easily recommend them.

I would highly recommend Canadian Wire Wizards. I had a variety of work done including adding pot lights on a shed, relocating landscape lighting, adding outdoor outlets and several outlets and lights in the basement. Young and his team came up with good solutions, answered all my questions, and I appreciated that the work was clean and professional. In addition, the way the job was quoted was more thorough than another quote I obtained which made me more comfortable using them. I will definitely call on Canadian Wire Wizards for future work.

I used CoreTemp to proactively replace my 16 year old furnace and AC for a couple of reasons: 1. He was recommended by my father who used them to replace his furnace and AC earlier in the year and was very satisfied. 2. I had an issue with my furnace a couple of years ago and Richard helped me diagnose the issue over the phone even though he did not service my make of furnace. I appreciated his willingness to help even though he wouldn't be getting the business of doing the repair. My experience with CoreTemp is that their prices were reasonable and Richard took the time to explain the options based on my needs and did not try to upsell me. The installation by Richard and Eric was clean and thorough (they definitely don't cut any corners) and the equipment has worked perfectly ever since. It was also great that the crew is very personable. I plan to use them to maintain the equipment as they will extend the labour warranty while it's annually maintained by them. Their annual maintenance was reasonable too ... cheaper than other companies I had used before.

I came home one evening and found that my furnace was on but there was no heat. I called AtlasCare at night and the person on the phone tried to help me troubleshoot the issue over the phone. I opted to wait until the next day to get a technicial out as it was more expensive for after-hours service. The service technician Alex came out and diagnosed the problem as a faulty pressure switch. He got the heat temporarily going by playing with the switch. But I knew that this was only tempoary as I had a similar experience with a faulty switch many years ago. The following day the part was ordered and the technicial Neil came to replace the part. I appreciated that they had 24/7 service and that the technicians took their time to explain how the furnace worked and were very friendly.

Roofs on Homes is deserving of their excellent rating on HomeStars. Roofs on Homes was one of the 3 companies I interviewed to replace my roof due to the wear and tear over the winter. I picked them because of their HomeStars reviews (at first I was a little skeptical that they could be so good) and I found out that a former neighbour had used them and was very pleased. Of the companies I interviewed, Danny from Roofs on Homes was the most knowledgeable and took the time to explain the options and reasoning behind them. I thought the price was fair for the options I chose (higher end shingles, full roof underlayment, upgraded vents). He was always very punctual with email replies which I appreciated. He had the area where some roof tiles had fallen off over the winter temporarily patched as my roof replacement wasn't scheduled for several weeks later. Chuck and the crew did an excellent job replacing our roof and I can't be more pleased. I'm pretty picky and was home during the installation and found the crew were very professional and friendly. It was also evident that they took pride in their work. The cleanup was spotless. In summary, I would highly recommend Danny and Roofs on Homes. I was so pleased with their work that, strangely enough, I was actually happy to pay for the new roof. 8-)

In February 2013, we heard a noise in our attic one night and suspected a raccoon. After doing research, we called GTA Wildlife Removal and Pest Control. We were initially suspicious as they had a lot of glowing reviews on HomeStars (I thought it was too good to be true). But after working with them, we found that the good reviews were warranted, and we would not hesitate to recommend them. Troy from GTA came and identified the culprit as a squirrel. He took the time to show us in the attic where it was entering the house and explain the other indicators that it was a squirrel. He installed a temporary one-way door on the roof to allow the squirrel to leave. He then came back a few days later to remove the one-way door and to reseal the entry point (at one of the roof vent pipes) in a professional manner. I really appreciated the service from GTA wildlife as Troy was very personable and he took time to explain the issues. He also provided advice on other pest issues we were having in our backyard. Several days later, I talked to my neighbour and found that he had been having squirrel issues in his attic for the last half year (could have been the same squirrel). He had called 2 local companies and did not get a satisfactory solution. One company had installed a makeshift one-way door also but wanted to charge more money to return. I recommended GTA wildlife to him and he was very pleased with the results.

G B Appliances came to repair a dishwasher door. While they did fix the door, they left the dishwasher uneven and unlevel (it was level before they came). I called many times to get warranty service but they never returned my call. So I would not recommend them as it their post-repair service is bad.
