Many people can take down a wall but ensuring that you trust the contractor to keep the house still standing is where it counts. Mario and Nitu were awesome in guiding us through the process and providing their expert opinions. We put our trust in their skills and the reward of not having to worry that things weren't done properly was well worth it.
We had an architect draw up the plans to remove a major load bearing wall. The plans called for fully embedded metal I beams that transferred the loads to our exterior walls. It required a long 20+ft metal beam that went the width of the house and then two 12+ft separate connecting metal beams to support the 2nd floor.
Doing this job required taking down the old walls and precise measurements to ensure that the beams went into their notched out pockets. They house had a stucco covering so they were very careful and mindful that their notching process in the brick did not cause any damage to the exterior facade. All through the process, they were very careful to ensure we understood the risks and provided options if we felt uncomfortable. Their guys were able to maneuver a 20ft+ metal beam in a smallish Etobicoke house with ease and caused no damage during the process.
Being an older house, it is expected that things will come up when the walls were opened. After the metal beams went up, the supporting walls could not be removed immediately. The joists had shrunk from the old bearing wall leaving a gap between the joists and the level beam. Bedna knew we needed to get the job quickly as we had small kids so Nitu went beyond all our expectations to escalate and bring in necessary people to complete the process.
All throughout the process, Nitu did a great job in keeping us updated (almost on a daily basis) on the various stages of the project. She was very involved in the process...treating it almost as if it were her own home...and provided the best service that we could have asked for. Nitu, Mario, and the Bedna crew are tops.
