One year ago I was told Id soon need a new roof so I invited more than half a dozen roofing companies to have a look at my roof and tell me whether it needed to be replaced or could we extend its life by doing repairs. Only one guy immediately saw that my roof still had a few years while all the other estimators told me I needed a new roof. Instead, I had minor repairs done to the roof itself and had some major work done on my two chimneys which needed a lot of TLC. Great service.

Some pooling water in our front yard prompted a call to Kerrisdale Roofing & Drains. They quickly determined the cause of the problem was that the copper water main was split open. They were able to install a new waterline before performing routine cleaning maintenance on our perimeter drain system and sewer line. Fixed, dry, and everything back to normal. Our century-old Vancouver home developed a watery basement following a heavy downpour. Tim made a couple of diagnostic calls and delivered the news that we would need to do a complete reconstruction of our drainage system, which appeared to consist of the original drain tiles. Throughout the process Tim demonstrated his long experience and dedication to customer care to make a nearly two-month job as painless as possible. Tim is available 24/7 for all questions and concerns. His team were without fail pleasant and upbeat, despite spending their days in muddy trenches in foul weather. Importantly, the final cleanup was as close to perfect as possible. It is difficult to remember now the scenes of devastation that surrounded our home over the two months. We can't thank Kerrisdale Roofing & Drains enough, and specifically Tim, for going beyond and above the call of duty when our sewer service line failure turned into a nightmare! When others we had called upon to fix the problem gave up, Tim pursued in sleuthing out what was wrong, orchestrating the repair, and providing us with a sense of being well taken care of in the process.

August 2016, Tim repointed part of our chimney and installed a new chimney pot with a screen to keep out 'creatures'. At that time, he did not promote a much more costly total repointing which we appreciated. He also gave us some good tips on how to maintain a working chimney.
July 2022, we noticed some gritty soot and small pieces of mortar coming down the chimney over a period of three days. When texted, Tim came over within two days and reassured us that no immediate action need be taken as the screen was still firmly in place and in all probability a squirrel was poking around the screen without successfully entering. There was no charge for this second visit.

After a sizeable snowfall this past January we started to get quite a lot of water seeping into our basement from the foundation from all sides. We called Kerrisdale and Tim came out promptly to assess our situation. He suspected that our old house likely had concrete drainage tiles which had failed. Tim was very generous with his time and explained how the system should work and likely what was wrong with ours and suggested that we dig a few test holes to confirm the type of drainage system and its state.

Kerrisdale was able to come a few weeks later and after digging the holes, Tim's suspicion was correct the concrete tiles were in very bad condition and the perimeter drainage should be replaced as well as a new line out to the storm sewer. Tim wrote up a detailed estimate which broke down all of the work and costs. Tim set us up with a temporary sump pump which kept our basement dry until his crew could start the work.

During the replacement work Tim kept in touch frequently as the project progressed and was always available by phone. His crew worked very hard and were respectful of our house and the neighbours and made sure to keep everything safe. We were pleased that the project was finished sooner than expected and that the crew cleaned up really well. Tim demonstrated how the system worked and what maintenance would be needed in years ahead to keep it in great shape.

Kerrisdale Roofing and Drains was one of the only companies who returned our call during the winter while we were having a great deal of standing water during heavy rains. This spring, they came in with a hardworking crew of five people to manually install drainage in the front and side of our house. They explained everything they were going to do and provided photos of what they did do before covering everything and restoring the landscape to how it was before their work.

Tim and his crew at Kerrisdale Roofing have been phenomenal in helping me replace my ashpalt shingles roof.

The disasterous atmospheric river event in Nov (2021) has revealed a leaky roof at my place. After multiple failed attempts to temporarily patch it up myself, I figured I might as well bite the bullet and go for the nuclear option of replacing the entire roof -- the shingles only, obviously.

From the moment when I first called, Tim has always been open and upfront about everything. He was intially uncertain of when he'd be able to fit my job into his schedule because of the ones he already has on hand, but he promised to get back to me, and he did. He was down-to-earth and had my interests in mind when he came for the estimate. Instead of recommending something that was fancy (and probably could have gotten him a nicer profit), he offered a recommendation that was practical while being more economical. He took the time to explain to me the features and qualities of the roof that I would be getting, and he even recommended a colour that turned out to work much better with the rest of my house instead of the plain, simple black that I had in mind.

When the time came to actually install the roof, his crew was professional, friendly, and obviously cared about the quality of their work. They took the time to explain to me what was wrong with my previous roof shingles installation, and how their installation would specifically avoid those pitfalls. They were efficient with their work. They were spot on with their estimate on how long the job would take. And they did a good clean up of everything around the house when the project was finished.

During the removal of the old shingles, the crew discovered that parts of my chimney and the associated flashings were in such a shape that they should really be repaired. Despite their observations and recommendations, they were never pushy about making me hire them for the additional repair work. Still, I was glad to have them help me with it, and they readily arranged to have their mason come for this at a later date.

I am obviously not a roofing expert by any means, but I find the workmanship and attention to detail of both the roofing job as well as the chimney job to be excellent. And throughout the project, Tim has maintained an excellent line of communication with me -- from keeping me informed about the dates, times, and costs; notifying me of any changes in schedules, and generally being available (or get back to me in a timely manner) to answer any questions I might have, and I appreciate that.

One final caveat that I am compelled to mention is the inherent uncertainty involved with weather-dependent repair projects. December to February in Vancouver is hardly the best time to work on these types of projects. Still, Tim and his crew made their best effort to plan their work around the weather, and help me get the repairs done as soon as the conditions allow. And when they were here, they wasted no time in making sure that the work goes right on schedule. I appreciate that.

Tim and his staff could not have done more to help me out in a basement flooding crisis. I highly recommend him. Good communications. Very professional and reasonable. Competent workers.
