Window and door installation

I was very impressed with Consumer's Choice Home Improvements!
The workers were very professional, quick and kind and the cost was reasonable; in fact it was inexpensive for how great the service rendered was.
I love the results of the project and would recommend using this company to ANYONE!!

Window and front entry foor replacement

Their vinyl windows are solid and well built but the installation (i.e. interior trim) was deplorable. We needed our General Contractor to redo the final trim that was installed around several of the windows.

The door installation wasn't much better. It took quite a few calls to get them to cap a piece of lumber that was left exposed in the threshold.

I will not use them in the future and would qualify any recommendation.

Company Response

Response to Home Stars Complaint:

We are pleased to know that the customer is happy with their Enersave windows. Employing the most sophisticated materials including polyresin3, UPVC, argon gas filled sealed units and low glass coatings, Enersave windows are Energy Star registered, Window Wise certified and CSA approved providing the highest rated thermal high efficiency window on the market.

It is a concern, however, that the customer is not pleased with the interior wood trim. Our standard interior trim is paint grade 'A' quality.

If for any reason the trim does not meet industry standards we will make arrangements through our warranty with the lumber company and gladly arrange to have the trims replaced. It is important to note that we have no record of any service request of this nature.

We have asked Home Stars to contact the customer and ask them to phone our service department so that we can attend to their concerns.

Yours truly,

Stan Greenberg

Eight Windows For My Home

Spring of 2006 we had patio doors installed in our house by Consumers Choice. We were very happy with the job. This Spring our bungalow needed 8 new windows and again we contacted Consumers Choice. We requested the same salesman Chris Gardynik. He was extremely helpful . We were surprised to get a telephone call to say the 8 windows were all ready and they had an installation date for Friday, July 13, some 4 weeks earlier than expected.
The same crew arrived to do the work, so we knew we would have a good job of installation. First 5 windows went in no problem. But, when they removed the steel siding from our big bay window the wood was so waterlogged and rotten that it was falling apart. This required a major rebuild so the retrofit windows we had ordered could be installed. The following Monday afternoon Consumers Choice gave us the price to rebuild the window, we approved the additional cost and the following day the crew started the building project.
This could have been a horrible nightmare, but because of the cooperation and quick action of the staff at Consumers Choice and because of the skill of the installation crew, we have a fantastic living room window that does not leak and all the other windows that they installed are working great. Even a very good product is useless if it is not installed the right way. We would have no hesitation in recommending Consumers Choice to our friends, and we would go back to Consumers Choice again.

All second floor windows replaced

The windows are fine - although I can still feel a bit of a breeze through them in strong winds. The problem is that the screen is not in a track but just sitting on the outside of the window. All that is holding the screen in is four small pegs - i.e. all you need to do is pull up slightly and the screen comes away easily. We have a cat who leaned against it and the screen bent outward at the peg and he fell down into the backyard.

I would NEVER EVER buy from them again!!! Imagine if that had been a small child or baby!!

Company Response

In response to the screen issue please be advised that all our Enersave windows are CSA and Window Wise certified, and come with a life time warranty.

The screen pins sit inside a track, and are spring loaded to hold the screen in place. The number of pins is determined by the height and width of the window. In order to remove the screen, the pins from one side must be pulled out of the screen track to dislodge it. Leaning against the screen when the pins are fully engaged in the track will not cause the screen to bend outward or fully dislodge. Please also note that in case of fire or other emergency, the screens are designed to break away under reasonable force, without having to spend time removing the pins that hold it in place.

It is important to remember that the main purpose of a screen is to keep insects out and not to keep pets or children in.

Our recommendation is that children should never be left unattended near open windows.

Installation of new windows

Consumer?s Choice was a disappointment for us, especially after all the good reviews we read. We had three windows replaced brick to brick. Their window quality seems good, but we encountered a lot of problems, maybe because we have an older house that requires non-standard issues, beware, if that is your case. There was no communication among departments about our concerns. As soon as they took the initial fee, we could never get hold of anyone who knew anything. The windows now look good in the inside because we bothered to buy the proper sills ourselves, but the aluminum siding on the outside is full of screws, definitively not a nice job.

Postscript:
I must say that when Consumer’s Choice learnt about our discontent with the final aspect of the windows, they responded quickly and took the steps needed to rectify the look of them.

Company Response

Following the posting of our initial response to Mrs. Garcia’s concern, we were contacted by her directly. We reviewed the file immediately. Our records did not indicate any service requests from the customer in fact, a completion certificate was signed confirming the customer’s satisfaction. As a result, we would have no concept of any concern the customer may have had. Mrs. Garcia assumed from her previous experiences with other companies (NOT OURS) in the past that no one would come back after the account was paid. This however is not the case with Consumers Choice. A service call was immediately booked to resolve the outstanding service concern. At Consumers Choice we pride ourselves in our excellent customer satisfaction record.

Front door, screen door & 1 new Window

We had a new front door and storm door fitted as well as a new window installed where there previously had been no window. Chris, the salesman, was more high pressure that I am used to, but he did outline all our options and provided some useful advice. We were given a 6-8 week lead time estimate, which turned into 10 weeks due to our door order arriving late. Mike arrived at 10am in the morning and worked without break until 11pm at night. Our front door proved to be quite a job (old house, 117 years old) and kept him busy most of the day. From there he moved on to the screen door and then the window. Mike was professional, friendly, highly skilled and worked tirelessly to ensure everything he did was absolutely perfect. He also took time cleaning up afterwards. The result was a transformation to our home. The quality of workmanship was excellent and products used superb.

Although Consumers Choice were a bit on the expensive side, we definitely got what we paid for. I would not hesitate to recommend them to others.

Replacement Windows and Doors

Last week we had all the windows in our house (11 including a large bay window) and doors (2) replaced by Consumer's Choice. I am writing to comment on the sales and installation.

The installers were very friendly and personable. They did an excellent job installing our windows and exhibited the utmost care when removing the old windows which proved to be quite a bit more difficult than expected. They went above and beyond to provide us with quality service, staying on-site 14 hours one day to ensure proper installation of the bay window and even returning on the weekend to complete the finishing touches. The job they did was precise and clean and I have nothing but praise for the installation team.

We were initially aprehensive about Consumers Choice after our dealings with the sales representative who seemed a bit pushy for our taste. However, he did convince us to modify our original window choices and his recommendations proved to be an improvement to what we had planned including the upgrade to the bay window with which we could not be happier.

The windows and doors look fantastic and we are very happy with the quality and craftsmanship of the product that Consumer's Choice provided. The new windows and doors have a huge impact on the look and feel of our house.

Consumer's Choice has been highly recommended to our friends and family.
