Plumbing review in Toronto

My main shutoff valve was leaking around the packing nut on a Sunday morning. In order to repair or replace the valve the water has to be turned off at the curb by the city. They charge the homeowner to turn it off and then again to turn it back on. This was a job that I wanted to do right the first time.

I didn't have a lot of time to shop around as I wanted to get the leak fixed asap. I quickly browsed through google's and homestar's review and Mr Rooter came up with great reviews.

I called the number on their website and reached their call center who was very polite and professional. They also brought to my attention that if I wanted a plumber to come out on the weekend there would be a trip charge since it's Sunday. I appreciate being made aware of this before having them take on the job. However, this contradicts with what they advertise on their website, they have in big bold letters "Never an Overtime Charge Weekends, Evenings, Holidays—Always the Same Price. " They may not call it an overtime charge, but I was definitely charged more to have a plumber out on the weekend.

In fine print they mentioned, "*Not offered at all locations. Reach out to your local Mr. Rooter Plumbing to find out more." It would be less misleading if they mention what location do participate.

Every company advertises they're #1 in the industry. No company is ever going to say say "We may not be the best but we can offer you a good price" or "We pride ourselves in being the best so you will have to pay more for our services". So when I hire someone, my decision is based a lot on reviews. Since this is something I want to get right the first time, I decided to proceed with Mr Rooter based on their reviews.

The plumber arrived quickly and he was very polite and professional. He was quite knowledgeable. I would give him 10/10. Before doing the repair, he showed me a break down of the cost. I was charged with the $69 trip that they pointed out. I was also charged with a $15 fuel surcharge, which I don't really understand. For the parts and labour I was charged $448. I don't see the part costing more than $30 at Home Depot. The plumber mentioned that this was the industry standard for labour. It seems really high to me. I was in a position where I wanted it be done asap and correct. I didn't have much time to shop around. I had a feeling Mr Rooter would do a good job. But if I had more time, I would have turned down their services and continued shopping after the estimate.

I also noticed they have a $20 discount on their website. It was my fault I forgot to mention this when the plumber was on site.

The reason I give Mr Rooter 5/10 is because I probably wouldn't recommend them to someone as they are expensive to homeowners like myself. I would recommend them if money wasn't a concern. The saying "you get what you pay for" is true. But I do believe that you can get the "best bang for the buck" if you do your homework. This definitely would be the case if I had more time.

leak in bath tub plumbing , replace plumbing , new shower head and faucet

We were in need of a plumber on Dec 5 with a leak in the plumbing for the bathtub faucet so I made a call to Mr. Rooter and they sent out a service plumber to assess our problem. The person they sent was Bruce who gave us a good explanation as to what would be needed to resolve our problem and what the cost would be. Bruce was very professional, friendly and very meticulous preforming the job.

Problem Solved

During a shower restoration, a tile and grout worker poured grout and caulking into our master bathroom toilet, resulting in a solidly plugged toilet. After attempting to plunge the toilet, unsuccessfully, I knew that the matter required professional escalation. I called Mr. Rooter and Bruce was dispatched to our home. Bruce immediately assessed the matter and ascertained the toilet was plugged solid with hardened grout! After applying a snake, the hardened caulking/grout was successfully dislodged and the toiled returned to proper functionality.

Be Careful

Lawn Maintenance review in Toronto

Came with $300 estimate, that was right estimate and it is right estimate. Charged $885 for nothing and was eyeing at $2,000 to finish job which is actually $300.
He sold membership for three years. Then he cut the wall and quoted $90.
Then he doubled $90 and also $670 for cutting drywall.
Cutting drywall was a small job but was about to bill almost $1,000. All the work he did was just billing and doing nothing. At the end he left the job uncompleted.
We got no receipt for the payment which he charged from my VISA card.

Small plumbing projects

We have used Mr. Rooter in the past and were very satisfied with their work. This time, we needed to have a toilet repaired and two kitchen faucets replaced.
We were told that there would be a phone call about 1 hour before the tech's arrival. Chris arrived right on time. He was very friendly and professional. He was very careful to protect our floors with drop cloths. Chris spent some time replacing the parts in one of our toilets so it would function better. He also replaced two kitchen faucets that were leaking and in need of replacement. The repairs took considerable time but were completed exactly as we wished. Chris was very personable and went to some trouble to acquire the needed parts to fix our toilet. When he left, there was no sign that he had been there - i. e. the areas were spotless. We would have no hesitation in asking for his assistance again. It was a pleasure to chat with someone so knowledgeable who wasn't bothered by questions that we asked. Highly recommended.

Leaking shower

We have used Mr. Rooter Woodbridge many times as our house is somewhat cursed with plumbing issues. Today's visit was for a leak below our shower. Kelly arrived promptly, immediately knew what the problem was and saved us time, stress and unnecessary costs. He was professional, knowledgeable and extremely helpful ( he even called after he left to hive me info about the sealing around the faucet). Kelly is amazing and deserves major kudos - he is a true plumbing pro! Thank you again for saving the day!

Blocked rainwater drains

We had several blocked drains from downspouts to the front yard, which did not let rainwater drain quickly away from the foundation. Chris and his crew were extremely professional and cleared all drains with a power washer and camera. Some even required some excavation to find the exit point into the front yard. The crew made sure the job was done beyond the job description on the quotation. We are very satisfied with Chris and recommend him.

Huge Job - Impressive Results

We suffered a collapsed main and external drain. Mr. Rooter staff were amazing - prompt, courteous, extremely hard working, clean and gave us 'top shelf' work. Thank you to Chris (plumber), Travis (project manager) and the countless others (we have 4 OUTSTANDING diggers doing the worst of the worst work -through yucky, smelly conditions - working at record speed! Their work ethic amazes me to this day. I would highly recommend Mr. Rooter.
