Closet Factory - Toronto

All tradespeople who visited over a 14 month period commented on how bad the original install was and how the materials are substandard. The designer was the worst and not a real eduacted designer but just a saleperson. And it showed. All the shelves were misaligned, no access holes were added for wiring & electrical. No trim work was ever added. They could never get the custom door size right. They mismeasured four times. We finally acceped two uneven door sizes because we were fed up. The list of deficiencies is extremely long. Overall, it took 14 months to even get the two doors installed. And they are uneven. Job was never finished. They took our money & ran.

Well it is true that Closet Factory has walked away from Toronto.
The designer/sales person is helping us as much as possible to salvage the job, but now we are looking into recovering our deposit...

Has anyone had any luck on this front.

I just called the Closet Factory's 1-800 number and was told that the Closet Factory franchise, located in Woodbridge, shut down last week. This might be a big problem for consumers who need warranty work done. Does anyone have any ideas?

I've had great service from this company in the past. But on October 24 I contracted for some additional shelving. There was no date for service. I started calling the company to find out when they would be coming. No one answered the phone. I left voice mails. I sent an e-mail message. I called my sales agent --- she reported that the warehouse has been emptied and the suppliers have taken back all the materials. Is this the end of Closet Factory in Toronto?

We had our entire home office renovated and maybe this is not their forte. We are into our 3rd month of trying to get this finished (started early September). Several staff have come back 4-5 times to fix original installers shoddy work. GM of branch is not interested in discussing compensation nor speeding up fixing the mess. Original salesman is no where to be found and missed several basics on plans. Almost every person since the initial installers from the company has commented on how bad the original install was and how other "touches" were substandard. Shelves misaligned, sharp corner left on entire redone desktops (two of them lining both sides of the room), pencil lines showing, caulking where none was needed, no access holes for wiring drilled. The list is extremely long. Overall, it has taken us 2+ months to get someone to come back and finish 2-3 hours of work. The people that kept coming were all either missing parts to finish the work or simply didn't know how (this is the incompetence piece). I highly recommend to stay away from these folks even for basic jobs. In the end, we have paid a huge amount of money for frustration and substandard work.

We had a closet made for our baby's bedroom, and it turned out quite well, and very functional/space-saving. The initial installation was not great but they came back twice and fixed things so that it looked exactly as we wanted it, without us having to badger them about it.

I had a 10 ' built in closet put in my bedroom by Closet Factory and loved it. It is money well spent. I am more organized and efficient and in the morning, I know exactly where everything is. I dealt with Janice, closet designer and she is great meeting us with planning and executing our order. It was expensive but worth it. Now I don't need any other storage furniture in the bedroom just the closet. I highly recommend Closet Factory and Janice. I am saving $ so I can put 2 more in my house

Designing this project was a lengthy task. We got really good imput from the sales people. The end product was more than functional. The time and input from our salesperson was essential in getting a truly functional closet system. We added our own shelves and drawers after the initial installation which allowed us to keep the cost down. Very professional installation.

I had two of my closets custom organized by the Closet Factory. I had designed them but the designer helped refine some details and made suggestions. She was very friendly, approachable and took my needs into consideration. My only criticism is that I had a few issues with the quality of the product once it had been initially installed (holes to adjust shelving were misaligned so the hangbar was crooked and the veneer edging wasn't well executed) I called and the problem with fixed within a week. This time the veneer was applied in one piece and the application was excellent - but the adjustable holes on one side were all torn, ruining the aesthetic. I called again and they returned to replace the piece for the second time. So the service was excellent but I was annoyed that the product had to be replaced not once, but twice. I feel there should've been better quality control - those closet pieces should've been check twice before they left the factory to avoid inconveniences for both myself and the installer. Fortunately they have a lifetime guarantee on their products.
