We had developed a slow draining kitchen sink after 18 yrs. After filtering through all the plumbing companies on Homestars, I had settled upon 2 companies. Both were highly ranked, and not surprisingly both were very busy. After several days of phone tag with each, I finally decided upon Nick at Van Horne plumbing. Even though the alternative choice was both ranked slightly higher and quoted significantly cheaper, I went with my gut reaction based on the brief conversations I had with Nick while trying to find an available appointment. I cannot stress enough how satisfied and happy I was with Nick's service. It is almost impossible these days to find anyone in any field at any price that is willing to tackle a repair, diagnose the root cause, and then correct the real problem. No short cuts. Not only did Nick resolve the clog, he will encourage you watch his work while he explains his actions and offer pro-active advice for preventive maintenance. He noticed also an unrelated minor issue with the dishwasher hose and quickly corrected that also. Most importantly he noticed the original home builder's plumbing in the basement regarding the kitchen sink down piping had a major flaw that would always be a contributing factor to the kitchen sink clogging, so he was good enough to fix that also during the same appointment. In the end, I know I got the better end of this deal with the price I paid. Thank you Nick. Van Horne has earned all my future plumbing business and word of mouth to family and friends.

7 yr old washer died unexpectedly 2 wks ago. Narrowed down potential repairmen to a couple from Homestar reviews. Choose Modern Appliance as they (Peter) were the only one to respond in a timely manner. Appt was scheduled and part ordered. Thru no fault of Modern Appliance, the part was delayed due to their parts supplier. As time passed and the situation of no functioning washer became more desperate, I was able to source and install the potential defective part myself and cancelled my appt with short notice. Throughout, Peter ,not only, always answered returned my calls quickly, but provided suggestions and alternate courses of action. Ultimately the initial probable defective part was not the cause of failure and I did require Peter to come in to diagnose definitively the root cause of the issue. He was not only able to do this quickly but luckily also had the spare part in hand. The cost was lower than expected and I could not be happier. I would recommend Peter without hesitation. I only wish other companies could learn the concept of managing customer expectations thru effective communication, especially in time sensitive situations. Two big thumbs up to Peter and Modern Appliances.
