The furnace died. It owed me nothing. That said, I had to move ahead of the cold front. Service at the office, with sales and installation personnel was seamless. On to installation. The team was excellent. Notwithstanding the fact that they had to blow a hole through the drywall in the laundry room to get the old furnace out. But in the words of my other half: it’s only drywall. That said, the guys had a really great idea. In order to increase air circulation in the furnace room, why not move away from drywall and put in a louvered grille. BRILLIANT. The job took a lot longer than expected. The old installation was [my words] a hack job and forced them to do a lot more than was expected. It’s an old Toronto home so they had to work within a very tiny space. They did what had to be done. And in spite of the long day, they spent time with us on the subject of maintenance, what to do in emergencies etc. I am grateful for the effort they expended on our behalf. I recommend this company without reservation. Excellent work.

When we replaced our glass doors, the installers told us that all the caulking [doors, windows, vents] was way past its due date. This was true since it was 23 years old! But I had never noticed. I found Vanguard on this site and took a chance. They were outstanding. They removed all the old stuff, replaced venting and did a fabulous job. It was painstaking work - exceptionally well done.

I needed help with flipping mattresses, rugs, removing outdoor tables|chairs|planters from storage. I provided the highest ranking for three reasons. One, the process is very disciplined and forces you to be organized. You are completely in the loop with respect to confirmations and arrival times. Two, Shawn and Pierre reviewed my list and got to work. They are fast and they are good. Three, I learned that the company actually offers other services - painting and caulking - that I actually need. Shawn took photographs and I am expecting a quote as I write this. If you're not doing PM around the house - there is very competent help out there!

When my aluminum sliding doors gave up the ghost after 20+ years I looked for a reputable supplier. I zeroed in on these guys since they clearly know what they were doing and it was evident from the first communication with them. We did have a few twists and turns. First - the door was not a standard size. Second - we didn't want vinyl sheathing on the interior. Third - winter intervened and froze our back gate denying access. Fourth - the factory who did the fabrication delivered a door to Northguard that was scratched. Fifth - Northguard refused to install it. Finally the snow cleared and the day arrived for installation. I was very pleased with the quality of the door, the professionalism of the install team and the sales manager who I dealt with through all this. I would recommend them without reservation.

Finding stylish, well-constructed carpeting that can take the savage wear and tear of entryways, kitchens and offices is not easy. I was astonished at the selection of carpeting available and found myself confounded by the choices. The staff was both knowledgeable and helpful. Without them I wouldn't have known where to start.

I should have read the reviews. . .and I sure paid the price for not doing so. The come on is an $80 refundable service all. The repairman spent 15 minutes with a washer that had overflowed, claimed it was a slightly corroded pressure valve and he replaced the clamps. The grossly inflated price was $361.60. I used the washer and the spin cycle didn't work. So I called Maytag direct and they sent a repairman. The verdict: the 10 year old washer drum is no longer balanced, the injector [of water] had loosened. It may live another year before I have to do anything. Maytag cost: 133.34. The real warning here is that this company goes under several names: The Appliance Repair Guys. Appliance Repairman and on the payment receipt Appliance Repair Man.

Our 20 year old toilets needed complete overhauls - replacement of the stacks and seals. Other suppliers we spoke to told us to buy new and they'd install. Shanks said no problem and we booked a date. The day before they were due to arrive our hot water heater gave up the ghost - water all over the place etc. We called them immediately and the next day all the work was done. They switched out water heaters, did all the repairs, took care of the natural gas hook up and more. The staff they sent knew exactly what they were doing, the scheduling of parts arrival | installation was seamless. I would recommend them without hesitation.

Prompt response. The situation called for ingenuity: it was a work around to accommodate existing cabinetry and electrical. He very quickly found a rather unorthodox - totally satisfactory - solution.

The Sub Zero fridge is 16 years old. The freezer side was dead, water was all over the floor and I was having nightmares about a $10,000 replacement spend. Southern Atlantic was recommended to me by Universal Appliances. They answered on first ring. They told me that they would try to for same day service, but failing that would definitely be there the next day. They managed same day service. The repairman they sent knew the workings of this old model inside - out. He had to take the baby apart piece by piece. . .but he found the problem and fixed it in 2 hours. A miracle!

Thanksgiving guests left the greasy remains of the feast on upholstered chairs and the dining room carpet. Based on a recommendation from Studio B from whom I had bought the furniture, I called Fiber Shield. Response was prompt, the gentleman who arrived knew exactly what he was doing and got it done fast. Very knowledgeable and polite. I have used other cleaners in the past with disappointing results. This company is a gem!
