I found CLI Electric on Homestars and called for an estimate. I got a very detailed quote from Steve very quickly. From the outset, I had the feeling that I wouldn't go wrong with this company based on the many excellent Homestars reviews, Steve's knowledge and demeanor, as well as how meticulously the quote was put together. Yes, I am right! They did a marvelous job with my renovation! I needed to replace the 200 amp panel of the house I bought, add potlights and ceiling lights, add exhaust fans and redo some wiring. I am very impressed with the team's excellent workmanship and Steve's attention to details, his perfectionist attitude, as well as his amazing memory. Since the work at my house had to be done at different stages of the renovation, the team would come to have the work done over a span of 3 months. Despite his busy schedule and numerous clients, whenever I called Steve and asked questions about some of the wiring, he could remember the exact location of each wire and what was done. Amazing! Adam's workmanship was superb and he always cleaned up after the job. I can't remember the names of the other guys on the team but they did a great job as well. Laura's documentation was flawless. Their prices were also fair. All in all, CLI Electric did a beautiful job, and I am so glad from now on I have an excellent electrician I can rely on in the future.

Century Aluminum replaced my eavestroughs and downpipes earlier in the winter when the ground was covered with two feet of snow and ice. They promised to come back to adjust the downpipes to ground level in late spring after the snow had melted. I thought I would have to chase them back later on for the adjustment since I already paid in full. To my surprise Gary conscientiously followed up and as soon as the snow melted his team came back and adjusted all the downpipes. With such good service, no wonder they have such good reviews on Homestars. Their prices are also very fair. I later decided to change one section of my soffits which had a lot of ivy marks. I sent a photo to Gary showing the new eavestroughs he installed against the old soffits so that he could match the new soffit colour to the section of old soffits which would not be changed. He matched it perfectly from just looking at the photo! That's experience! Novi and Bob did a really good job. Their workmanship was great and they left my place spotlessly clean. What a great team they are!

Shiny Glass installed the frameless shower glass doors for the two bathrooms in my new house. Mario, our contractor, used Shiny Glass and that proved to be a great choice. Kostya and Harrison from Shiny Glass had to shape the glass to the uneven wall and did a great job. I am so glad I didn't buy any of those prefab frameless glass doors because there is no way they would fit considering the curvy, uneven walls of the house. The only way would be to go custom. For the price that I paid, it's really worth it. The glass doors look fantastic and the service is great too. When I called Kostya back to adjust one of the shower doors, he came very promptly and fixed it.

We found Jade Granite and Quartz on the internet, and we double checked their reputation on Homestars. We had them install our granite kitchen counter top and the experience was great. Guarav and Divya were very helpful and informative. Their prices were fair and they took the time to make sure the laser measured template had the perfect fit. Their installation crew was fantastic - fast, efficient, meticulous and kept the job site very clean. Definitely 10 stars!

John Resendes from Sterca installed the hardwood at my old house back in 2006, and I have had compliments from so many people that I immediately called him this year for the renovation of the new house I bought. Sterca Stairs, as the company's name indicates, specializes in stairs, and John did an amazing job at my new house, building the circular hardwood staircase with iron pickets and very impressive wood posts. It perfectly matched the maple hardwood floors which I purchased and had him install for me. I was so impressed that I had him replace all other stairs in the house - in the basement and in the laundry room. His workmanship is impeccable and he finished the job on schedule. His rates are also very reasonable. If you need your stairs done beautifully, definitely call him.

I purchased two shower systems,and also a tub from Canaroma. Their sales Robyn was very helpful during the selection process but got the models wrong on the work order. Luckily I caught it and she issued a new, correct work order. I had no problem with the quality of the fixtures I bought. Cabano is a great high end brand. I just had problem with their deliveries. The tub I bought should have been 31.75 " wide, but a 30" wide tub was delivered (I later found out they delivered the tub based on Robyn's first incorrect work order). The delivery guy quickly dropped off the box without giving me a chance to check it. It had no indication on the box. When the plumber proceeded to install, it was too late, so I just had him install the 30" wide tub or else I would have to pay for extra plumbing fee for him to come on another day. The Cabano Shower System I bought was supposed to have a rain shower from the ceiling. It came with an arm for the wall, and not for the ceiling (but on the box it showed the rain shower from the ceiling, and as a layman, I couldn't tell that the ceiling arm was missing). I was not at the house when the plumber came, so they roughed in what they found in the box...shower arm from wall. I had to pay them extra to come back on another day to re do the rough in from the ceiling. When I called to inform Robyn, they acknowledged their mistake and only offered to exchange the part, and that I had to go pick it up, and they would not be delivering. While I am very satisfied with Shannon in customer service, I am very disappointed with the quality control in deliveries. If you do order from them, do not let the truck leave without your contractor checking all the parts.

Mario's was among the 3 companies I interviewed for the renovation at my house. He was not the cheapest but I picked him because he offered the most flexibility. He was willing to work with any design, and install any type of fixtures that I would provide. That helped make it a very custom process. I could go wild with my imagination and source my own materials. I could also change my design in the middle of the job (of course there would be costs with changes). Mario was one of the trades that I used, and he had no problem working with the electrician and other trades that I hired, making it a seamless process. Mario lets you take charge if you wish to, but he can also offer expert advice if you need any. His way makes the renovation experience very custom and very interactive.

The sump pump of the house I've bought wasn't working full tilt. With the melting snow and pending rain storm, the water level was dangerously high. I called Mike from Smart Plumbing and he showed up within an hour of my call! He replaced the sump pump with a new and more powerful one, changed and re-routed the runoff piping. Problem solved! I am most impressed with his concern for his customers. After diagnosing the problem, he was going to buy a new sump pump from the nearest Home Depot and install it. But he was concerned that there would be flooding while he was gone so he put in his own pump in the meantime. That's very considerate of him! Home Depot ran out of the pump I wanted, and the one he bought was just as powerful but we both felt there was a design flaw with this pump (maybe that's why that pump wasn't sold out ). Mike was so experienced that he devised a way to work around that product design flaw. I am so glad he took his time to try out different ways of overcoming that flaw. That's a real pro who cares! Thanks Mike!

I needed the load bearing wall in the kitchen removed during the renovation of the house I bought. It was very difficult getting a structural engineer to come to my new house in the Aurora/Stouffville area since they all only wanted downtown jobs. Amr from Revival Group came to my help. He was very professional and knowledgeable, answering all my questions, and reassured me that it could be done without causing much delay to the rest of the project. He totally delivered. He did the architectural plans, got the permit and arranged for the inspection by the town within a short time span, and at a reasonable cost as well. I later found out that Revival Design and Management Group could handle the whole renovation project from start to finish. Had I known earlier, I probably would have contracted Amr to oversee the entire reno of my house instead of having to hire and co-ordinate with the different trades that I am using now. That would have saved me a lot of time and headaches. Having dealt with Amr, I am confident that he would do a good job and I would recommend him with no reservation.

After looking all over the GTA for beautiful and unique tiles, I found this wonderful store right in Markham where I live. The size of the store is very deceiving. They have more selection than all the tile stores I went to in the west end. You just have to spend your time and look through the stacks of samples they have. I picked some tiles which I had never seen anywhere else. I bought beautiful rectified porcelain tiles as well as some funky ceramic tiles imported from Spain for my bathrooms. Sam and John were very knowledgeable and helpful. When I was short of some tiles during installation, I just had to call in and they would have the extra tiles ready for pick up in a day or two. It was such a pleasure shopping there. Now I know I don't have to waste any gas looking for unique and beautiful tiles.

I shopped around for privacy blinds which could offer both light and privacy for my transom windows, and decided on Hunter Douglas' Pirouette. I couldn't find too many dealers in my area, but fortunately Sunshade had a showroom near me. The sales people were very helpful and the blinds arrived in time as expected. Installation was a breeze and we did it ourselves. It wasn't cheap but it was well worth it! The total was about $1770 (blinds with all hardware, taxes included)

Four of my windows had condensation and when I called in a window company, they told me to change all the windows on the south side of my house. Firstly, they told me they couldn't just replace the glass units, and also in order for the windows to match, they had to replace even the windows without condensation. You can be sure I will never use that window company! I didn't think that was necessary and so I called Pilkey Glass and found out that for condensation, I only needed to replace the double glaze sealed glass units without having to replace the whole window. I had one big window and 3 small ones replaced by Pilkey Glass for the total cost of $723 (materials, labour and taxes all included). The window sealed units in my subdivision were very difficult to remove but they did a great job. There was a slight blemish on one of the glass units but considering the difficulty of the job, I wouldn't complain at all. They also did a great job cleaning up all the glass. They did such a good job that I will most probably use them again for the shower glass enclosures for my tub to shower conversion later. I would definitely recommend Pilkey Glass !

I picked this company based on the reviews I saw on Homestars.ca. It turned out to be a great choice. High Efficiency Cooling & Heating Inc. was the first and only company I contacted for a quote. Rocky Wang who came to give me an estimate was so detailed and professional in his presentation that I was impressed enough to sign with him right then and there. The installation was slated for a few days later, and the crew showed up punctually, and they did a good and clean job. One note to point out here. I first called them at the number on their website and left a message with the receptionist who said a salesperson would call me as soon as possible. I didn't get a call that afternoon or the next day, so I emailed them around midnight the next night. Rocky returned my email almost immediately, called me first thing the next morning and scheduled for an appointment for the next day. As mentioned before, he was very detailed in his explanation. His after-sales service was also excellent. He arranged for the company's technician to come over to check the system when I called, and then he showed up himself. I find that very reassuring since he was the one I dealt with when I bought. My old AC failed, and I had a bad experience with the company that installed it. That's why I searched through Homestars.ca this time to pick a different company to install a new AC for me. Neither Homestars.ca nor High Efficiency Cooling and Heating Inc. disappoint. I am very glad I found them, and I would recommend that if you deal with this company, ask specifically for Rocky.
