The cost of our move

Prior to our move we paid $250.00 as a deposit. On moving day the movers claimed we didn't pay a deposit but my wife said we paid $200 (by mistake)and paid the balance. After contacting Brent at least 4 times he assured me he would refund the $50 overpayment. I'm still waiting and no longer trust him to live up to his word.I believe when a deal is made it should be honored.
It's interesting to note some of the other customer comments and Brent's reply because he thinks a negative comment should be discussed with him to resolve the concern.Well, he's not very good at resolving my concern.

Now that everyone can see that Brent responded about " this guy technically owes us money" I would like to know how. We had an agreed upon price and we erroneously overpaid because my wife thought the deposit was $200 - not $250. The move was done in less time than the estimate so we certainly don't owe for extra time.
Brent also said " my business partner did some extra work after the move that saved the customer $150". Please elaborate on this Brent because after the move we never saw you or your partner again. What did he do? Besides I go back to our deal with you that you quoted on and we paid.
Additionally Brent goes on to say " I can give more specifics on how we saved this customer $150 about 2 weeks after the move and how he owes us money and despite this I agreed to refund $50". I have 2 comments here : (1) please tell me how you saved us $150 and how we owe you this and (2) you may have agreed to refund us the $50 ( which is true because you told me that on more than 2 occasions) but this is now Jan 7,2014 and I first notified you on October 24, 2013. Canada post might be slow from time to time but his seems a bit of a stretch.
My only concern is that I feel I am not dealing with an honorable person who lives up to his word.
Reply number 2 to Brent's comments.
I don't technically owe you any money. We had a contract for a fixed price and that is what we paid - plus the overpayment of $50 which is still the issue. Brent said he issued a cheque in December and has a witness. Well maybe he has a witness to issuing a cheque but as of January 11, 2014 I still don't have it. Maybe he issued it with no intentions of mailing it.
He goes on to say that he saved me over $150 for returning a lost cushion. Well we never issued a claim for it but simply advised him at the end of the move that a cushion was missing. Also my wife mentioned it to the movers before they left after the move and they said they didn't have it.I don't recall anything in the contract regarding a $150 charge for processing a claim. If there is it sounds to me like an underhanded way for him to increase his revenue by holding back an item belonging to a customer and then charging for it when it is returned.
Brent obviously doesn't like negative comments - which is understandable - but there wouldn't have been any if he had issued and mailed the cheque in a timely manner. I'm still waiting for it.
I find he also rambles a lot and tries to introduce meaningless diatribe to the issue at hand. What does his charitable contributions have to do with my concern. I'm sure in our own way we all help our own favorite charity but don't brag about it.
Brent I hope there in no future need for me to reply to your replies but if there is perhaps I should let you know there is enough information in our correspondence for a Small Claims Judge to rule in my favor. Be forewarned.
Jan 21/14. You're still commenting about making the cheque back in December but I still haven't received it. You shouldn't be surprised by my comments because they are all the truth. You knowingly didn't mail it and you gave me two different excuses for what was taking so long. You also did not save me $150 - you simply had a lost cushion returned that should have been delivered with the rest of the furniture on moving day. How can you call returning property to me that you lost or misplaced a saving of $150 to me?
Brent send the cheque and I will let the world know tou honored your deal.
Jan 22/2014. Thanks for your reply Brent. I await your legal action. Actually I'm looking forward to it. Besides I don't think you can hire a lawyer for $50 but maybe you think it's the principle that matters. Well so do I so don't be surprised if we end up in small claims court. I have both the patience and time.

M and M Moving moved this guy successfully, no damages, and ahead of schedule, we found him to be very rude throughout the move and difficult, his final bill was LESS than the guaranteed quote. We Issued a refund cheque of $50.00 over the holidays, he is aware of why he didn't get it earlier, I personally explained this to him on the phone, considering all we did I thought we had a happy customer, his wife was happy ( He had a lost item claim , so we waited until this was resolved, which it was saving him $150.00 deductible for a claim, my business partner found the item and delivered it to him personally, he lies about never seeing my business partner again, weird) This customer admits no damages and the total cost was LESS than the guaranteed maximum. The movers never disputed the deposit they simply asked the customer how much was the deposit and the customer gave them the wrong amount, this guy is lying. ( he lies several times with this review, the issue is simply about when he will get a $50.00 refund, that's it) We saved this guy potentially $150.00 from a lost item claim despite his poor attitude towards us. (we could have just said we couldn't find his missing item and he would have had to pay $150.00 deductible for a claim, the item was less than $150.00, my business partner who he claimed he never saw again after the move delivered it to him about 2 wks after the move, and we never disputed any deposit on the move) We find this complaint bizarre and untruthful, he did make it clear to me he doesn't care about my family's humanitarian work and he want's to make things difficult for me because of his mistake in judgement. He was moved with no damages and ahead of schedule, and we found a missing item saving him $150.00, this is the final result of his move. Brent Routley

Thanks for the REAL review Jill and Peter, all reviews except the rare false review can be verified with Home-Stars and other sources. Go to the BBB and read other real reviews and confirm my A+ rating as well. I appreciate you sending me an e-mail review, which I forwarded to Home-Stars to publish with your permission. ( Thats what assisted review means, it actually is more credible than a regular review when done properly, you have to pay Home-Stars minimum $2,000 a year for this service, I no longer pay Home-Stars, all reviews since December 2013 are submitted directly by the customer to Home-Stars, hence saving this cost) Thanks again Brent

Moving

We hired M & M to move us from our house in Etobicoke to our new place in Wasaga Beach. The team led by Mo and Sayeed were great. 5 men, 2 trucks. The move went smoothly and took less time than estimated. They are not the least expensive company, nor the most expensive. Well worth the cost. We highly recommend them.

Thanks Pinky and John ( Yes she prefers to be called "Pinky") Over 95% of people who are happy don't take the time to do a review, so thanks again. In general the really cheap movers take longer, are not reliable, and don't have proper insurance, so you don't actually save with them. I am glad we did your move ahead of schedule and saved you money. Thanks again Brent

I hired M&M Movers over another company due to their more competitive rate. Brent came to my house twice for the estimate to make sure that the count would not be off. The movers arrived right on time on moving day. They were from M&M/Top Movers, which is the same company as M&M, Brent tells me. They started loading right away. They were one guy short--he showed up later--but that didn't matter as much as we had to wait over an hour for the keys. The move went smoothly, though it was long. At one point one of the movers asked me to go get him a tea--anything to help the move go faster! We fed them pizza and Cokes as it was getting dark. At the end of the day, nothing was broken and there was no damage to either house. The guys were courteous. I had agreed to a cheque at the end of the day but the foreman wanted a combination of cash and cheque so I obliged (it didn't mater to me) I'd recommend M&M/Top Movers to other people. Brent, Moe, Smiley, Shawn and Hamid were fun, courteous,,respectful and determined to complete the move. I have a long leather recliner sofa and I wanted it in the basement. They managed to take it apart and re-attach the sofa so it could go into my basement. They wrapped every piece of furniture and covered the floors and stair rails, I was thoroughly impressed by their professionalism and their experience in previous moves really showed. Another thing is that they did not damage anything, walls, floors, etc. I would like to pass the word around for my new area, that those 4 guys were terrific! Also the invoice was pretty accurate as well, I emptied my garage a week before but your estimate was pretty close. Thanks again Joey from Brampton

I hired M&M Moving for my house move. I have nothing but good things to say about the efficiency & work ethic of these three men. If they were not sure they asked questions. They had difficulty with my special request (a very heavy piece of furniture) going up the stairs. But they persevered. At the Condo I especially noted the sequence of lining up partial items in the hallway for elevator access. It appeared very organized. Actual location of furniture in the various rooms went very smoothly. My wife said that they were very careful not to mark the walls especially in a narrow hallway; and they asked questions to make sure that the items were placed exactly in the proper location even if my wife changed her mind. All- in-all they did everything to please, and we were extremely satisfied with the results. Brenda and Dan Wigle from Mississauga

I recently hired M & M Moving for my downsize move from a house to a condo. I had never before used a professional moving company however I was most impressed from the initial home estimate from Brent to the final move. M&M arrived on time as scheduled on moving day, were very courteous and respectful to me as well as my furniture. Upon arrival at our new home, the movers placed all furniture and boxes carefully and in each area as requested. I was most impressed with the whole operation and how smoothly M&M Moving made what could have been a very smooth and pleasant operation. Jean Dunning Brampton Ontario

Thanks Jean, I say this often, most people don't take the time to do a review when happy and unhappy customers are the first to do reviews, quite often without talking to the company before the review., hence not giving the company the opportunity to resolve the issue. So thanks again Brent

I hired Brent and M & M Moving to do a full pack and move over 2 days. They arrived on the first day to do the packing and finished the packing the second day because they ran out of materials. They also moved me on the second day as well. "Ace" the head mover did a good job leading the guys. We had a delay getting the key's to the new place, so the guy's were idle for a couple of hours. In the end everything was fine. Thanks again for your help M & M Moving. Michael from Thornhill

Movers arrived on time at 9:00 a.m. and started work immediately. It was a long hot day. When we arrived at the new house the previous owners were still there and the movers had to work around this. The move finished around 10:00 p.m. We had alot of furniture and boxes to move. The movers did a good job and I was happy with their work. Thanks Pat from Scarborough

I too would not recommend this company to anyone. After our belongings were appraised incorrectly we were stuck with paying for a UHaul the evening of our moving day, to which no compensation was offered. Brent has ignored every call and voicemail we have left, thus we never received remuneration nor even an apology. His team was highly unprofessional and took an unexplained detour which left us waiting for hours at the new place. Our property was also damaged by way of scratched wood and furniture.

Our move lasted nearly 12 hours and cost us over $400 more for the additional UHaul. EXTREMELY disappointed in both quality of the labour and the service.

I personally contacted Carol's husband on moving day and the problem was resolved, this is a case of a husband and wife not communicating, I found out she actually new I contacted her husband BEFORE she did this review, she did not follow up with me in any way shape or form. Bob (Carol's husband ) was happy with the movers and had no issues, however he had extra furniture ( which was NOT part of the quote) which required another small truck. The Guaranteed price for the move was honoured. Carol has not apologized for her mistake about no communication e.t.c. No problems of any kind were reported to my office until 5:00 p.m. on moving day and nothing about damages was ever reported and I provide free replacement value insurance. No claim was ever discussed or submitted and the movers are not aware of ANY damages. My guaranteed estimate was for about 11-12 hrs which is about the time the move took including the extra furniture, so any "detour" the movers took did not affect the moving time (movers are allowed a dinner break) The problem was actually a very minor one. We did not charge extra for the move and the customer paid us by regular cheque so payment was fair. I did contact Carols husband to resolve this.( e-mails confirm he received my phone call) The problem was a small overflow and no issues about the movers e.t.c. were reported. I actually honoured the moving contract. I quoted a 26ft truck and sent a larger 28ft truck to be careful. (no added charge) I sometimes quote 2 trucks if needed and cost is a lot higher especially on an out of town move like this move, so I was very careful with the estimate. The customer had alot more than what I quoted on so we had to deal with this. On Moving day I did leave a detailed message for Bob (Carol's husband, I mainly dealt with him) and asked him to call me if any further discussion was required, at this point the minor problem had been solved. I have no idea why Carol would lie about no contact from me e.t.c, this is bizarre behavior. I have e-mails from her stating she is aware I contacted her husband but she has not apologized for her mistake about communication. No issues as usual were reported to me about any quality issues with the movers. No report of any kind about damages until I read this review and I provide free insurance. I have e-mails from Carol stating she is aware I called Bob and asked him to call me back if necessary. We take regular cheques for final payment and this customer did not pay a fair price for their move. In summary, I don't mind taking a loss on a move I have a customer satisfaction rate of 95% and I take care of the occasional minor problem. This customer got moved safe and sound and saved money.
