Basement Drywall

After contemplating drywalling my DIY basement myself, I called 5 highly rated drywall contracts whose websites specifically said they would do smaller jobs (like 800 sqft basements). Barry was the only one willing to come out and give a quote. He is very professional and very well organized and knows his trade very well. His board estimate was right on (one extra board at the end), his delivery crew was so efficient it made me question how I ever contemplated doing this part the project myself. His boarding crew was fast and organized, but you could tell they were overbooked and after delaying starting for several days and then promising to complete the boarding in one day, they left just before lunch because another more important customer had been waiting even longer. The taping was doing by a younger guy who did a really good job, particularly since we were doing a drywall return on the doors to try to match the 1960s look of the upstairs. We are really happy with how the project turned out and would recommend Barry to anyone else doing a basement, he is a good project manager and he only hires good crews. Unfortunately right now any drywall crews in Calgary who know what they are doing are all really busy, so expect to be surprised at how much the labour costs.

Basement Drywalling

Found this company on Homestars. The price quoted was identical or even less than other 'friends of friends' had quoted us for the work. Barry and his team were always professional, and the work was done properly and within a good time frame. The basement now looks great, and I wouldn't hesitate to call The Mudd Monkey for any future projects.

Basement Development

I don't think we got the best Barry has to offer. Drywall was delivery made a mess. Barry did not communicate along the way, the drywall was delivered on a Friday and I figured that meant work would start on the Monday. Monday came and no one showed up, Barry didn't contact me to let me know, I had to call him and ask when the boarding would begin. The drywall sat in the basement for over a week before anyone showed up to install. Work wouldn't commence before 10 am most days and guys were gone by 3:30. There was not a lot of consideration that this is our home, so I had drywall mud scattered from the front door to the basement stairs daily. I asked for a vapour barrier to be put up 3 times, and eventually did it myself. The cold air return in the office was covered over and it ended up taking over week to address this issue. A portion of the vent has been exposed, but the hole was cut in the wrong place- now I've kind of given up as the ceiling is textured. When I asked for a hold back on final payment until the repairs were completed Barry reminded me it was a 21% interest rate and threatened legal action as his first response. Then he tried to tell me that I should go after the suppliers for the damage. I didn't want to litigate I just wanted repairs done and the cold air return exposed. I thought that was a really disappointing response. Then he offered me $100 off the job. At the end of the day someone came back and patched the damage to the walls, but Barry refused to repaint the damaged areas. Its been just about 5-6 weeks since the drywall was delivered and work is officially over, its less than 1000 sq ft- I don't know if that is good or bad, but the last basement I developed took less than 3 weeks to drywall. I think I will go back to just getting personal references for trades people as this was a pretty disappointing experience. Its a lot of money for a family and a home is your biggest investment, in addition having strangers in and out of your home is a big deal. I thought hiring Barry meant I would have someone ensuring that the work was quality.

Sorry you feel that way Elise. I have been in this industry for 30 Years and pride myself in being honest and providing quality work, however I had communicated with you in the beginning that your stairwell was really tight and that getting drywall down the stairs would be difficult, but could be done. When drywall was delivered to your basement you had called and said a couple of bead were scuffed in front entrance as well as scuff marks in the stairwell and at that time I said I would do the touchups for you. I never said I would paint your stairwell and front entrance. The knockdown and taping we done for you looks awesome. I even took pictures the job looks great.we even framed in duct work which was to be done but was still left undone when we started basement so we drywall and taped the heat run in office with out charge so that we could finish the rest of the office .The reason I felt that I had to remind you of your contractual obligation is that you were trying to take advantage, by blaming me for what a supplier had done holding back monies hoping you would get a free paint job.we put matts down I have pictures of that too. With regard to timing of your job when I first quoted your basement you got back to me after a week and said that you wanted to hold off with starting your basement because you were starting a new job,I was fine with that but that took close to a month so I did my best to fit you in. Shortly after we started your place, once taping started I had to have surgery on my shoulder, even with a sling on my right arm I was still doing touchups in your stairwell to complete your job, while another taper was finishing your basement .I have come to realize that no matter how good you treat people it is impossible to make everyone happy, enjoy your weekend.

Basement Drywalling

My wife and I recently chose Mudd Monkey Inc to drywall our basement reno and found Barry to be one of the best residential contractors we have ever dealt with (and believe me there's been a few!)

His quote was competitive and quality, not speed, was the focus. Nevertheless, the job was actually finished ahead of schedule.

Barry communicated well with us and his various crews who worked on the project.

Robert, the boarder, and his team were fast and efficient. Allan the taper was meticulous and had an artisan-like approach. The clean up crew was done within a couple hours of the final sanding.

Highly reccomended!

Basement Renovation

The Mudd Monkey painted our basement and did a fantastic job. Barry was great from the start, provided us with a very detailed quote and was very accomodating to our needs. Barry was the main person that worked on the painting and was a pleasure to work with. Barry was very dedicated, meticulous, approachable and did an extremely great job. We are very happy with the end result and would certainly recommend The Mudd Monkey Painting to our family and friends and will use them in the future.

Basement Drywall

I had my basement drywall installation and taping work done by Barry and his team. Very happy with the work. I picked him after a few quotes. His price is not the lowest but reasonable on the market. He responded very quick to my questions and requests. He took time to make sure job is done properly so if you just want to a quick rush job Barry may not be your choice. I have a little kid at home with my parents who don't speak much English. Barry kept the work schedule and noise level comfortable to us. His team are good quality contractors too. Highly recommend.
