No customer service

This the response we finally received from Mr. Minoli when asking to repair a fence that broke in less than 5 years. We had a contract which includes 5 years labor and 20 years manufacturers warranty. He has said he never received emails from us, hung up on us, now has blocked all our phone numbers and emails.

"Further to your emails, we where instructed not to return to the X property and further to your attached picture this is not an installation issue, this is a manufacturers product defect. Also, the pool construction created a lot of movement when the foundations were exposed. Hence, affecting the whole line.

The pool was not constructed around that fence and caused no other damages or problems. The fence piece that is broken is the farthest away from the pool and closer to the front yard. As he notes the other property, he was told not to ever step on again, this was because he was threatening the neighbour. He can still fix the fence from our side of the property. Lastly, as he notes it is a manufacturer defect, which he chose the product.

Fence solutions hires small companies and depending on how much you pay, he will hire more qualified or less qualified fencers. He once told us for our other fence it was the people who did the fence who should fix the problem, however we hired him as the company.

He is happy to take on business but if you are looking for quality and insurance of what you pay, buyer beware.

Company Response

We clearly remember how pleased you were with the quality and workmanship of the fence. You were so pleased that you decided to contract us again the following year for the other side of house for your inground pool. When we came on site to discuss the new fence installation on the left side of your property. Your pool company had started their excavation and we noticed that all of the foundations on the right side were exposed, compromising the integrity of your fence between you and your neighbour. All of your posts are dug at 3 to 3 1/2 feet and we cement all of our posts and bell our bottoms. The damaged U channel that was used for change of directions is fractured and was causes by the stress of the line. The pickets are held by the top and bottom rails. In your case the damage to your fence is not covered under our installation warranty. This is not an installation issue and will not be repairing your fence under warranty as our policies clearly outlined on our website "Any alterations to the landscaping either by the homeowner or your neighbours which affect the fence will void all warranties. e.g. final grading, change of elevation etc"

Fence Solutions has access to many manufacturers in your case we chose Durafence - 2 rails system - H Post - Pyramid caps - Metal inserts in every posts - metal inserts in the bottom rails which is made by EMS Extrution - https://www.extrusion-ems.com/
Fence Solutions only use quality material from reputable manufacturer and follow the manufacturers guidelines for installation.

Fencing

Frank (owner) will talk the talk to get you to sign. He pretends to come off as helping but in the end will be useless. The fence was finished around 830pm on a Saturday and my phone was ringing off the hook for final payment at 9pm and for the next couple of days. Frank's wife is also unprofessional. There were charges to dispute yet they tried charging my credit card anyways. All 3 of my neighbours feel the same way. Extra charges for hard digging slapped on the invoice at the end yet not one word about it during the whole process. I highly recommend going with any other company but Fence Solutions.

Company Response

Fence Solutions has been servicing Ottawa and surrounding areas for 4 years, the vast majority of our clients are extremely pleased with our work ethic and quality workmanship. We work very hard to please our clients. Any financial adjustment is always discussed with our clients before amending the contract. Unfortunately, in this case the client has chosen to ignore her contractual obligation which is clearly outlined in her contract. Also, in this case her financial amount owing did not change. We are still waiting for our final payment.

BEWARE THE OWNER

The owner is rude, condescending. extremely bad-mannered and impolite. He will underbid the job to then make you pay more for different reasons (market volatility, hard digging). Also, if you have issues with your fence after the installation is done you are left on your own. All he wants is your money and then runs off to the next project.
Unless you want poor customer service you are better off to look elsewhere to someone with a good reputation, years of proven experience, and that cares about his clients.

Shared PVC Fence

Although the labour staff was very courteous and respectful while doing the work; the Owner is the complete opposite. He will underbid the job to then make you pay upwards of 20% or more for any variety of reasons. In my case the excuse was for hard digging, even after lending a physical hand one afternoon to help his crew, to then threaten me with a construction lean against my home if I didn’t pay it. Look for it in the contract they send out and make alterations!!! This man is rude, condescending and highly unorganized. Do not give him a deposit as he will not order the materials right away. This resulted in a 3 month project delay after providing an initial deposit the year before. He also charged the full amount against my credit card the day they finished knowing I was out of town with no review of the finish product. For this guy it’s take your money and run off to the next project. So do your homework! A contractor can only charge you an additional maximum of 10% of the total cost and you have a right to make payment 28 days upon invoice.
The differential for the added charges I was seeking reimbursement on amounted to just over $200, which they chose to ignore my calls and emails on in order to reach a fair settlement. In addition to this, my other neighbors who were involved in the project are currently in a legal dispute with Fence Solutions for reasons greater than my own. Aside from all this, his crew did do a good job overall but look elsewhere to someone with a solid reputation, years of proven experience, and obviously better mannerisms.

Read your contract, hard digging is subject to charges. Also, your contract stipulated that payment is due upon completion. You are incorrect in regards to the 10% of the total cost. As for the legal dispute with your neighbours you should ask them directly.

Fence

Company was great in 2020 I am disappointed in the service I received this current year. Once the fence was done, we noticed we are missing a cap, we are told we lost the cap... it should not fall off if done well. We had our landscapers not the fence company raise our fence gate as it was low once the fall shift happened whereas we requested them to come fix our neighbours gate which won't open and close as it is still too low to the ground.. We were told they would get back to us. I called again a couple weeks later and he said the season was closed. I mentioned I requested this prior to the season closing. He said if he can send someone if they have time they will look at the situation but most likely it will be in the spring. He was also insulted when I mentioned that I understood he was paid in full so perhaps he believes the project is done but it doesn't help when we need a gate to open and close and it won't. Where is the labor and quality insurance.... Maybe it was a stressful year for them, but it was for a lot of people. We also paid a deposit for a fence in February then in March (half the cost) and because cost increased they had to change the price of our quote or the quality of the fence.

Company Response

We installed their fence on the right side of their property in 2020. Their plan was to install a pool in the Spring of 2021, they contracted us again for the fence located on the left side of their property while their pool was being installed. They also had a wrought iron fence gate installed. The landscape/pool company removed the wrought iron fence and unfortunately did a poor job re-installing the gate, there where parts missing and caps. We also noticed while we were there that the excavation for the pool on the right side of the property we can see that the foundations where exposed. We have addressed her fence issues. Our contract is 50 percent deposit and balance upon completion. Once, the homeowner and the neighbour made alterations to the landscaping, final grading, change of elevation any adjustment to the fence should be subject to charges. Any defect in material should be directed to the manufacturers warranty and will be subject to charges to install the defective part.

Get Less Than What You Pay For

We had minor issues with this company (damaged our siding and blamed us, gates missing trim) but the fence looks good however after job completion, I realized that my neighbour and I actually paid for 78 feet of fencing (quoted/fence cost shared) but we ended up with 72 feet of fencing. Frank (Owner) said he has difficulty measuring around obstacles but to be out by six feet, really! When I asked Frank for compensation, he balked and offered both my neighbour and I an insulting $33.00 each (his profit for 6 feet of fencing not installed) when we each overpaid $226.00. Funny enough, our neighbours seemed pleased with the result and we find that unusual (they hired this company for more work - go figure). Furthermore, Frank responded to Trusted Pros that we were just unhappy because our shed was encroaching on our neighbours property (we lost land). We had the shed moved (no issues) but this issue of encroachment has nothing to do with us overpaying for the fence, when it was only brought to our attention 5 years after we built our shed that we were encroaching (existing hedge and fence was on neighbours property and way off property line). Neighbour had no concern with the previous location of our shed until they showed us the builders survey and we verified with our survey. I would not recommend this company.

Company Response

Further to the complaint, this project was initiated by the neighbour as they had a survey done on their property and their findings were that there was encroachment onto their property. The day of the measurement there were many obstacles to overcome both with measurement and personalities. He was displeased in regards to the changes to his backyard and cost incurred. The initial family that contacted us made is worthwhile for us to proceed. They were pleasant from the beginning to the end to the point where they are scheduling a project with us next season.
