Dishonest Company

I called Winton for a quote for an old dryer that was producing low/no heat. He said the price for a service call was $75. The technician would assess the repair and give me a quote. If I went ahead, the $75 would be deducted from the bill, otherwise I just pay for the service call.

When the technician came, he disconnected the dryer and I helped him clean up a lot of dust from behind the machine. After a few minutes he said the problem was fixed and when the dryer was turned on, I could feel the heat coming from the back. I asked him what the problem was and he said "a loose wire". He then said it would cost me $150 dollars. I was surprised and said that is not what Winton told me. We called Winton who insisted I pay him $150 even though I said I never received a quote. Since the problem was fixed, I reluctantly paid the technician recognizing that sometimes appliance repairs can be much more.

After a couple of days, my wife told me the dryer was the same as before. I contacted Winton who now said perhaps I should also have my dryer duct looked at. I called another company who found the problem was a bird's nest near the exit of the duct just behind the flap which opens when the dryer is turned on. After removing the nest, the problem was solved and we were getting full heat.

It was then I realized there was never any "loose wire" and the technician was not truthful when he said he had fixed the problem. In short, this company is very dishonest and I do not recommend dealing with them.

Approximate cost of services:
$150.00
