Worst moving company EVER

Worst experience ever.
Quoted 1 price and was charged more than double.
They hold your furniture for ransom.
They caused over $10,000 in damages to my property.
They lost, damaged and delivered items that weren't mine and have yet to pick them up.
They DO NOT honour their insurance policy.
DO NOT USE!!

"Number 1 Movers: Someday You'll Learn the World Isn't An Honest Place"

I wish I could give zero stars.

When the truck arrived, my mother's items were mixed in with another person's (or multiple persons') delivery and they kept unloading items that didn't belong to her. When we said the items weren't hers, the two movers said "if you like it, you can keep it." This was said to us several times as they offloaded items. At one point, one of the movers turned to my 6-year-old and said "someday you'll learn the world isn't an honest place." This should be this company's slogan.

Boxes were falling apart, soaking wet, like they'd been sitting in a puddle for days. Items were damaged; many, many items. My mom is an antique dealer and knows how to package/wrap things and it was shocking how many things were smashed. Rubbermaid bins were broken and the items inside were crushed, that's how bad it was. Original artwork that had been wrapped in foam and cardboard had broken glass, frames and the artwork itself had been damaged. The mattress was ripped, furniture was chipped beyond repair...

The best part? Not all of her items were on the delivery truck. I have no idea how/why someone's move would be split up. When we pressed the issue and finally said we would pick the items up at the warehouse, we were told the warehouse manager would meet us in a closer location, which was a grocery store parking lot (yes, we agreed to this, but seriously?). We collected a TV stand (broken), her luggage (soaking wet to the inside where the contents were mouldy) and a table (broken). She's still missing original artwork and several boxes. I don't have much confidence we'll ever receive them after hearing several times during unloading, "if you like it, you can keep it."

She called and spoke with Bella in Customer Service who said the manager, Julianna, would call her back the next day to discuss the damage and missing items. Of course, no phone call. The following day, she called again, and again, and no one would pick up (you can't leave a voicemail). I called and connected with Jenna in Customer Service on my first attempt. (Were they screening her?) Jenna gave me the email address for the claims department, and my mom sent photos of the damage with descriptions of the items. She received a reply stating they would offer .60 per pound and they guesstimate the weight of each item via the photos. So, for thousands of dollars in damaged antique pottery, furniture and original artwork, she was offered $240. She refused this and they 'upped' the offer to $573. She refused this again but there's been no progress since.

Plus, still no word from them on the missing items but we were told that they are in a storage unit, behind another person's belongings and that person hasn't secured an address yet, so we need to wait. It's been a month since my mom's move date and now we're waiting for someone else to secure a residence because they can't be bothered to move their stuff to complete my mom's delivery. I've emailed two more times, requesting a date and received no response. I can't get through via phone anymore either.

She did finally receive an email from Julianna who promised to make time the following day to call her to discuss. It's been two days since that promise was made and my mom hasn't heard from anyone.

My mom is elderly. She moved from Ontario to BC to be closer to her grandchildren. A huge and stressful move for anyone, let alone an elderly person. If they can treat a grandma with this amount of disregard, disrespect and unprofessionalism, they are truly number one at something, that's for sure. I'm disgusted with their lack of concern, lack of organization and competency, lack of care and complete lack of decency.

By the way, it you're missing a box of spices and/or the top to an outdoor patio table, I have it...

Avoid Number 1 Movers Van Lines at all costs!!

Hire LITERALLY anyone else! I cannot even express my disappointment with the atrocious state of service rendered by Number 1 Movers with our long distance move. Not only did our delivery arrive nearly 10 days after the quoted date of arrival, but no customer service representatives that I called during the course of the delivery could confirm the state of my delivery, its location, whether items had been collected or even how many were collected. Several pieces of furniture were broken or severely scratched and we still have not received 2 pieces of furniture and it has been more than 2 months. With the millions of moving companies available to help with long-distance moves, I cannot stress enough what an awful experience working with this company was. I have no clue how they have a somewhat decent rating, because every aspect of their business practice is awful: communication, execution, quality, value.

Number 1 Movers has abysmal communication, is utterly incompetent, fails to fulfill their deliveries and is as expensive (or more) than other services available. I regret having to continue to deal with this company to return my lost items. Not only have they failed (over the past two months since the delivery!!) to connect me with anyone who can actually provide information on the whereabouts of my items, but they just deny liability on the grounds that they hired subcontractors for their deliveries and pick-ups. I just want this awful ordeal to end.

If you are considering hiring this company and want any more information about my experience to see how it might match up with your goals, reply to this message and I will get back to you. Hopefully you can avoid this nightmare.

Number 1 Movers are a nightmare

We are having a terrible time with this moving company. They will not return our missing furniture to us so we can close our claim and move on with our lives. They are accusing us of being responsible for damages through the Better Business Bureau even though we provided proof through photos of damage. Its been so disappointing. My personal insurance has had to take over because the company will not answer calls or emails. Stay away!

Don't choose Number 1 Movers if you want to receive your items intact!

I was scheduled to move from NS to BC in May 2021. I had movers booked for May 24th. They never showed up.

In a panic, I called Number 1 movers. They said they would be there the next day. I thought my move was saved. I was wrong.

Yes Number 1 movers took my call on a long weekend. Yes they agreed to show up the next day and pile my belongings into a moving van. Yes they took my stuff from Nova Scotia to Toronto and finally to BC.

Yes they HOUNDED me for a good review when they were so quick to show up to pick up my things. Yes I initially gave them the great review they wanted, because they HAD showed up to SAVE me.

What they DIDN’T do was deliver ALL of my belongings.

What they DIDN’T do was answer any of my calls or email inquiries asking about my missing belongings.

What they DIDN’T do, is reply to ANY of my inquiries.

They have COMPLETELY GHOSTED me for three months.

They have not answer my calls, but they answered when my son called. Gee … Block numbers much?

Number 1 Movers … you HOUNDED me for a review when you picked up my items … here’s your second review … after ghosting me for 3 months.

My boxes were crushed.

Items in boxes were broken.

Items were removed from original boxes or bins and repacked.

Repacked items were mismatched, resulting in a shampoo bottle being punctured and spilling onto CD's and DVD's. NICE!

Items were dirty.

ITEMS ARE STILL MISSING!!!!

They have NOT acknowledged losing my family heirlooms.

They have NOT acknowledged losing my retro roller skates.

They have NOT acknowledged losing my favourite blanket.

They have NOT acknowledged breaking my breakables.

They have NOT acknowledged ANYTHING! (this is just a small sample of items, my favourites!)

DO NOT USE NUMBER 1 MOVERS.
At least not if you want to actually receive your items intact, if at all.

Need proof? I have pictures of EVERYTHING they won’t acknowledge.

Save your belongings. Rent a U-Haul or storage container and do it yourself.

Number 1 Movers … take responsibility for your mistakes. That goes much further than GHOSTING people.

Number 1 Movers may pick up your items, but don’t plan on actually getting ALL of them back.

Number 1 Movers will make you pay for insurance, but completely ignore you if they lose your items, so what exactly are you paying for?

Number 1 Movers will ignore you if they lose your items.

Number 1 Movers will not be truthful to your family members who call, and say ‘they’re working on it, they’ve been busy’, but will then ghost you again, and now block your family member’s number.

Number 1 Movers has crappy customer service if you have an issue.

Moral of the story … pick someone else for your move.

The End.

Great experience

This moving felt just right! It felt like I got exactly what I paid for! It really feels good when it turns out exactly how you wanted it to be. In my case, Number one movers moved me and I received the service I wanted! They moved me in an efficient time within my elevator time frame and they did not ruin a single thing! Their price was low and it did not change in the end. The best part was the guys; they were efficient and very professional. I had a real good experience with this moving company. I will use them again and I will certainly recommend them to all.

Horrible long distance move

Do not send contracts or final invoices until pick up/ drop off so you have to sign on the spot. Charge way over initial quote. Agree to discuss refund then ignore all calls and emails.

Be careful with choosing this company for long distance moves

So where do I start, I decided to hire Number 1 Movers for my move from the east coast to the west coast, and this is the most stressful and disappointing move compared to all my moves in the past. Below are the summarized points that you may want to consider before signing Number 1 Movers:

1. FALSE ADVERTISEMENT:
a. Number 1 Movers explicitly told me that they will let me know the arrival (pickup) window at least one week, usually two weeks before actual arrival - exact words from their selling representative. However, they only gave me the notice one day ahead of time, and informed me that "tomorrow" is the only date they can accommodate my move. Note that I've been chasing them for weeks asking for the arrival window, they either ignored my call or told me "someone will get back to you by the end of the day, or latest tomorrow" but never called back.

b. Number 1 Movers clearly indicated in their ads, quotes and on the call that they WILL pay close attention to the furniture, and their crew WILL wrap them in blankets to avoid damages. Well let's take a look at the pictures below, that is the so called "taking care". No blanket, no wrapping, even no floor protection are in the place.

c. Number 1 Movers told me that their crew are hired my them, and that they have a reputation to maintain, while from drop off guy, the service is outsourced to a third party.

d. Number 1 Movers sales team told me that there won't be any "surprises" in fees which make them competitive comparing to the other moving companies. This is generally true, there are no big surprises, but a small one, the CC fee, if you are not paying cash, be aware there will be a $50 credit card fee and they won't tell you ahead of time. Besides, they do NOT accept debit card payment.

2. ABSOLUTELY NO PUNCTUALITY
a. Be aware this company is NOT punctual. Recall they only gave me less than one day notification, they then gave me an arrival window from 8am - 9:30am, however, their crew did NOT show up until 3pm in the afternoon. I've been waiting for the whole day, and thank God I have taken a day off.

3. DAMAGED FURNITURE
a. My Autonomous desk was not wrapped and it was damaged, and arrived super dirty, took me hours to clean up the white surface, let along all the scratches

b. The surface of the chair got damaged possibly by something sharp that was put on it. It is an expensive chair. Thank God it is still functional.

c. The corner of my sofa chair in Italian leather was abraded, and the chair smells like rotten tomato when it arrived in my new place... It was NOT wrapped in blanket after I emphasized again and again that the sofa chair requires special attention.

d. Moving boxes are all damaged to different extent.

4. MISSING ITEMS
a. Three of my moving boxes was so damaged that the lids were off the boxes, and my stuff could be falling out along the way...I still need to check my list. If you are to pick Number 1 Movers, make sure to tape up all your boxes, not just tape them as what Amazon does, you need to tape every corner and wrap the boxes up with the tape. Make sure NOT to put anything valuable in paper boxes, as they might get lost if the boxes are damaged badly...

b. They lost my brand new Mountain Bike. Literally speechless. I only have twenty some moving boxes, four pieces of furniture, and a bike. They are under 1000 lbs, and still they missed one, the most obvious one, and my bike is in light green, seriously, no one else could possibly miss a light green mountain bike...

All in all, be careful with your choice as it might turn into a big headache.
