Dishwasher repair

Customer service will told that the technician will visit at your home for $80.00. Once he arrives he says for him to do anything to find out what the problem is will require a payment of $280. Once the diagnosis is ended, you are told a new pump will cost another $585.00 + tax! Actual work was about an hour. Should have cut my losses at $80.00 & buy the new unit which will cost around $1000. Please avoid these company!

Banging & Knocking but no fixing

Totally disappointed in this company and the service they provide!!!! All the repairman did was open up the back and bang it a few times. Then tells me I need a new part and that he would call me to give me an estimate. No phone call.

My issue was with my front burner not working. Now, when I turn the back burner on, the front burner turns on too! Safety hazard!!!

I have called customer service 3 times !!! They do not understand how to serve their customers. When I asked who the owners were, I was told that the owners do not deal with customers.....what she should have said was "after they take your money"!!! Steer clear of this company especially if you do not want to be ripped off!!!

Professional CLIP Joint

This is a professional clip joint. The bill read

Service Main Board $90,
Defrost System $132 (we defrosted it the day before) and
Electrical System $98.

The Tech was 15 minutes tops. It's not possible to service all 3 in 15 minutes.

RUN!!

My whirlppol range needed a new cooling fan. The technician knew this before he arrived to my home. He showed up in a small car. He had to check if he had it in his vechicle. Surprise! He just happened to have one in stock. My bill was $650 taxes in. I have since learned the part costs $150. He ripped me off. Took 20 min total for the call. I have been on the phone today from 10am until 6pm getting the run around. No one calls me back. These people should be ashamed of themselves. No wonder they are not BBB accredited. Don't make the mistake I and several others have. I BEG YOU...DO NOT CALL THESE LOW LIFES!!!!!

Very misleading, avoid this company.

You get told that the technician will appear for $80.00. Once he arrives he says for him to do anything to find out what the problem is will require a payment of $280. Once the diagnosis is ended, you are told a new pump will cost another $300.00! Actual work was about 40 minutes. Should have cut my losses at $80.00. Also should have been told that minimum cost will be $280.00 Very bad! Avoid!

I decided to follow the advice found on ApplianceRepairGuys.org, a website set up by another victim of this company. He suggested filing a consumer complaint with Consumer Protection Ontario. Wisely, ApplianceRepairman.ca will respond once you set the ball in motion here because they do not want to be shut down.

Before filing a complaint you must write a letter to the company. Email the letter to info@appliancerepairman.ca and in the subject line write: Complaint about service done: CONSUMER PROTECTION ONTARIO (this will get their attention). Note that you don’t actually have to file a complaint just yet. Write the letter first and send it off, then wait to see if the company responds.

In your letter to the company, make sure you describe your intention to file a complaint with Consumer Protection Ontario and outline how much money you want back from them. Also give them a time limit to respond (I gave them 48 hrs but they responded the next day). Click here to read my letter.

The company will state that you must sign a waiver to get your money back which is basically a gag order for legal proceedings (which I will completely ignore if ever asked to testify against them). You can try to insist that you won’t sign it until you get your money back but you won’t be successful. They will tell you that they you will receive a cheque within 15 business days once the waiver is signed but insist that the money be put back on your credit card (not a cheque) instead and tell them they have 24 hrs to reimburse you or you will proceed with your Consumer Protection Ontario complaint. Here is where you need to take a huge leap of faith: You need to give them your credit card number again before they can process the refund. If you prefer, ask them for a mailed cheque, but you risk having to chase them down for it. I gave them my credit card number and received the refund immediately after sending them the signed waiver. I called my bank right away and made sure that the funds had indeed been credited back to my card. Phew, nightmare over.

So there it is. It was 5 days of pure hell, but a lesson well learned. Never again will I let a service person into my house until I do some research on them.If you are reading this too late, you can get satisfaction!

Fridge Repair

So I also agree with everyone, that homestars should of been reviewed prior to asking Appliance Repairman to come by.

Unfortunately I was in a pickle as my fridge was leaking and I wasn't well versed on that shut off valve.

Are they a rip off? Yes. I had my my filter and filter cartridge replaced (max $150 in parts and less than 1hr labour). I was charged $520+hst

That being said:
- They were at my home when they said they would
- Repair tech found leak point, told me solution and presented cost
- I accepted. Parts were ordered. New appointment scheduled
- They came as scheduled. Fixed the problem

I can't give them a zero, as they did what they said they would. Should I have paid $200 less? For sure.

Using them is a decision I regret, due to spending more than I would have liked, but the problem was fixed.

Total rip off...never call this company

This company is a total rip off. My fridge stopped cooling so I called this company. They said $80 dollars for the service call plus parts and labour. When the repairman arrived he quoted me the standard $320 that most other people got as well. He led me to believe that it was going to be a lengthy repair and I approved the $320 plus tax charge. He basically defrosted the freezer and was gone within an hour. This charge is ridiculous given the easy repair. I complained to "head office" and they said that that is their standard rip off charge. My experience luckily is not as bad as others but NEVER CALL THIS RIP OFF COMPANY.

Con Artists Stay away

I wish I read these reviews before I contracted this company because I had the exact same problem. An 80 dollar quote turned out to be $361.60 and they didn't even repair anything!!?? I was told with this price of $360 it would be repaired, however I was only told after I got the bill that they quoted me an additional $650 to replace the mother board. So over $1,000 to fix an 5 year old washing machine. Oh and You cant complain to the owner because he doesn't talk to the public, just some teenager who says she's the manager. People READ these reviews it cannot be a coincidence we all got roped it for $360 with no repairs. This is their business motto. Go in and get $360, get out after 30 mins and their making money, and lots of it.
