Gas Range Issues

I had an issue with my gas range, and decided to call SOS Appliance Repair. Their service was prompt, and professional. Their part prices were also very reasonable. Their service fees was also very reasonable, up with market standards. I am satisfied with their service.

Price Gouging

My Maytag washing machine was not filling with water so we called SOS. The repair was subcontracted to Expert Appliance Services. The technician came out and quoted us $380 + tax for a water inlet valve. $380 seemed very high to me. So, I decided to look up the cost of the part. It was $58. Not only that but 5 YouTube DIY videos showed the repair being done in full in under 30 minutes by average Joes like me. So, let's do the math here. A 15-minute diagnostic visit. No more than 30 minutes to repair - a $58 part. That means the labour is over $322/hour. When I called SOS to complain, they said that the technician sets their own rates. When I asked to speak to a manager, I was told that his name couldn't be given out. Furthermore, the dispatcher even told me that she would pass on the information but it was highly unlikely I'd get a call back. Not only was the price gauging disgraceful but their customer service was equally as pitiful. Unfortunately, we put down a $200 deposit because the technician suggested we pay half now; half after the repair. Needless to say, I cancelled the repair. Now, I'm waiting for a refund cheque. That better bloody well happen.
I will never do business with this company again.

Fridge repair

Don't make the same mistake I did. Read the reviews!!! While first service call was prompt and on time, technician showed up with extremely strong cigarette smell, that lingered in my home for days...and then after replacement part was ordered I received no followup and I had to call them, not once but twice over 6 weeks to get an update. Terrible follow up customer service.

Dishwasher breakdown

I had a leak in my dishwasher. My husband tried to fix it but couldn't so I booked an appointment with Expert Appliance because there were good reviews on Google. The technician came, took a look at the dishwasher, and told me that it was the motor that needed to be changed. The cost was estimated to be $350-$400. I told him that I would discuss it with my husband before making a decision. I paid the diagnostic service of $90. When my husband got home, he went back to trying to fix the dishwasher himself and, in fact, did fix it by just cleaning the plastic suction rim around the door of the dishwasher. I was very surprised that this was the only problem. I called back Expert Appliance, very upset that they had given me a wrong diagnosis and the fact that I COULD HAVE paid the suggested price of $400 to fix the motor!!! I called three times, each time asking to speak with the supervisor/manager but was told by the receptionist that the supervisor is never on site so she will leave him my number and he will call me back. Three weeks went by, no one called me back. It was horrible customer service, couldn't even TALK to a someone who could make decisions and get an apology. It was very frustrating and I felt like I paid $90 for nothing!!!!

Worst worst worst - Do Not Call Them - Save yourself!

Booked an appointment dec 5 didn't show up. Called them, lady said she "accidentally" wrote 7 instead of 5. Came to house on the 7th, turned on my Miele dishwasher and after 2 minutes said it was motor and provided an estimate which costs $1600 to repair (he didn't open it or take it out) I paid the guy $90 and said goodbye. Next day I called Miele - technician came out took the dishwasher out inspected it as they should and found out that the issue was the circulation pump the guy repaired it for for $0 cost the part was covered under warranty. I asked the technician if I had to pay what my cost would be, he said $300. These guys at SOS will charge you FOUR times the actual cost.... Stay Away From Them!

Do not call them- they will take ur $90 in 2 minutes and provide with absolutely wrong diagnosis & Insanely Inflated Quote.

Company Response

The circulation pump, or circulation motor, is the motor. We are pleased your dishwasher was under warranty and you were able to get it fixed at no cost. We do not do repairs at no cost, and we only install parts from the original manufacturer. We apologized for the misunderstading about the appointment date and honored the appointment we had in our books.

Company Response

We only install parts from the original manufacturer. Disassembly of an appliance and installation of new, original parts for high-end appliances will be costly. If you wish to go with another company that will install generic or second-hand parts, that is your perogative.

Refrigerator repair

On Thursday a technician came by to repair my refrigerator. He was professional, polite and seemed to know what he was doing. After a basic diagnosis it was determined that the problem was a simple fan. $389 later (which seemed rather expensive, but it needed fixed, so it is what it is) and about 15 minutes time for the installation, the refrigerator was fixed and he was on his way. Later that day I noticed that the fan seemed quite loud, compared to what it had been prior to needing repaired, but we didn't make an issue of it as we are planning a renovation in the coming months and decided to just live with it.

On Saturday, the refrigerator was again quiet... and dead.

I sent an email at 2am (when I noticed the refrigerator wasn't working) and expected someone to contact me on Sunday when they opened for business. Nothing.

At noon, I called and was told I would need the original technician to come back and he isn't working until Monday! I asked someone to call me within a couple of hours to discuss why another technician couldn't fix the problem. No return call!

At 5pm, I finally called and got someone who said he would deal with it right away. He had the technician who originally fixed the fan call and tell me that, despite there being other technicians working today, there was nothing they would be able to do for me until 1pm on Monday!!!!

Sorry, when perishables are concerned, that's absolutely NOT ACCEPTABLE! Bottom line, my groceries will be spoiling while I'm at the whim of a repair service who couldn't care less and who will perhaps get to me sometime two days after their repair failed!

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! Next time I will be going elsewhere when my appliances require service.

Most Horrible and Rude Service!

Horrible Service , Rude people, never call back. Waiting for parts forever. Mino come to my house took $80 dollars for 5 min of doing nothing, promised investigate the issues and call us back in two days and never back to us. When I call office the secretary hung up on me. Only Calgary office answered my calls. On request to speak with the manager the answer was there is no manager, apparently manager on vacation and office operate without any manager only secretary. Just curious how much time needed contact supplier to find out repair cost? This company is waist of money and time. Please read reviews before contacting them. Not sure how possible that this company still on the market. I would not recommend this company!!!

Paid for work not done

In March, 2016, I paid a deposit of $400 for parts and labor to repair my range. The technician came 2 months later to do the repair and told me it was the "wrong part" but his manager would be in touch with me in a few days. I didn't get a call. I called the office and was eventually promised a refund to my credit card. They said they "couldn't fix" my range. It is now July 26th and, in spite of numerous calls to the company, I haven't received my refund. Today when I called, the receptionist hung up on me. I would not recommend this company.
July 29/16 Update: They have refunded me all but $84 -- they kept th $84 to account for the service call.

Sub Zero Fridge Service

Mino the SOS technician came and resolved a simple cleaning issue which another company, ARS, said was a blown compressor problem which would cost us $2000.00 minimum. The issue was a simple cleaning of the condenser filter which was causing overheating. He was personable, informative, obviously knew what he was doing and explained everything fully. Excellent service!
