Markham Landscaping Nurseries Ltd

After finishing our driveway with Patterned Conrete the existing landscape was partially removed and what remained was overgrown and out of place. We contacted Markham Landscaping, along with a few other contractors to get ideas on design and cost. We felt that Markham Landcscaping was the most knowledgeable and punctual in coming out to give us a quote, therefore we decided they were the best company for our project.

We met with Mike and reviewed his plans which we thought were very creative and complemented our driveway work really well. The work was completed in the summer of 2012 and our expectations on finishes were far exceeded. The follow-up service was truly like nothing we've ever experienced. There were a couple of visits by Mike to make sure he was happy with the work completed and after his first visit he even sent back his crew with a few extra items to finish off some areas he felt needed a little more attention.

I would recommend Markham Landscaping with no hesitation. They are a great company to work with and they stand behind their work 110%.

We had our lawn completely burnt by Greenlawn and we were getting estimates to re-sod and get trees, shrubs, and interlocking done. We contacted quite a few landscapers and were given estimates at about $14k for what we wanted to do. The other issue was the horror stories of landscapers taking deposits and never showing up. We then contacted Markham landscaping and Mike the owner came by and we gave him a rough idea of what we wanted to do, he had hundreds of pictures of work his company had completed and it was difficult to decide what to choose. He then suggested that he sketch out something for us and see if we liked it which we did. His idea was much better then what other landscapers had suggested and the price much lower. We wanted a platform built for a new shed and he said he would do it for free. His team worked an entire week and in the end we were extremely satisfied.

To be honest this is not like the other one two man team out there he has a legitimate company located on Stouffville rd and a nursery where you can choose from a pretty good selection. He has six teams and they have their own machinery and trucks. Don't take my word for it but get an estimate if you like from others and then call Markham Landscaping I guarantee their price will beat the others and you can be sure that they will not run away with your money like the other guys running side summer jobs out there homes.

Our back and front yard were disasters from the word go. The grass was completely taken over by weeds and the ground was like concrete. There had been a large pine tree in the front which was killed by ants and had to be removed. The city did the work and left the stump behind and Mike's crew managed to get it out and we now have a nice level yard. Also they did a new patio for us and that has worked out really well.

We were extremely please with Markham Landscaping ! Mike was so knowledgeable and patient when guiding us through the selection process. Mike's staff treated our property like their own and even put down plywood sheets so the bobcats and machinery would not destroy our lawn. I would definitely recommend Mike and Markham Landscaping to all of our family, friends and neighbours. We have already hired them again for our next project. Thanks so much Mike!

I was very pleased with the services provided by Markham Landscape. With construction and renovation work you constantly hear stories about delays, unexpected findings and surprises that add to the cost and time frame of the project. Markham Landscape stuck to the time line that we both agreed upon. Given the size of the job and the fact that weather was always an influencing factor the work far exceeded our expectations. The crew were professional, accommodating and very passionate about their creative input and outcome. Of equal importance we maintained our tight budget as our backyard evolved into an elegant and admirable work of art that will provide beauty and serenity for years to come. The work they did for us was for rerouting the water from the eves and digging rain drainage pipes underground through the front yard, side of house, and out the back yard, plus relaying front sidewalk brickwork after (to remove safety (leveling) and water pooling issues). The work did not seem to us to have been done properly - we were pretty sure they didn't bury the drainpipes deep enough through the yard. They sent a senior person to check, and that person agreed. But when the company sent someone to fix it they did not dig the pipes deeper - they re-laid the brickwork (they may have dug that part of the pipe deeper, but they did not touch the rest of it through the yard). It looked good afterwards and they asked us to formally agree to that effect. We did. But as the season passed we could see that the pipes under the grass and side of the house and back of the house were still sticking slightly out of the ground (the lawnmower chops up the top of the pipes). As well, the brick steps were falling uneven and loose - probably the brick was sitting right on top of the drainspout and the pipe was still not deep enough. A big issue is that the pipe all along the yard is not deep enough - you can see it sticking up. We placed calls and got no reply from Markham Landscaping. Since they did not sound like they opened our file for those calls - they just said they would have someone get back to us -- perhaps they did not log those calls. We gave up for a while, tried other things on our own (putting more lawn soil and seed). Pretty much every year (probably every year), after we made an effort to fix the lawn to no avail, we called to say the problems are still outstanding. We're told 'someone will call you'. Yet still no reply. Life is busy, and I'll admit I did not take the time to chase down an answer. Sometimes I followed up once or twice, sometimes I just placed the call and let it stand for that season. No one called us back and unless they came to the home without communicating with us, to our knowledge no one came again to look. Today I decided I was going to succeed in speaking to someone. I guess I'm motivated by the fact that we have to pay someone to have the pipes re-dug along the yard and the sidewalk re-laid once the pipes are deeper. So I waited on hold until I could speak to a manager. He acknowledged that there is no record of the company replying to our calls, after the first time they came back to repair the work. I had him read back the logs to me and we both agreed it was not there. So I asked if, given that I had tried to contact them but had not received call-backs, they would still honour the warranty, or at least to some extent. He said it would be hard to admit at this point that he has a warranty issue, since several years have passed. He also pointed out how many calls he gets in a year and how hard it would be to respond to all of them. True, but it seems rather 'weasly' to not return customer calls while a warranty is valid, and then when an adamant customer reaches them say, well, now it's too late. I asked if he would honour the work and send someone out to redo it, and he declined. So I offered that perhaps we could reach a compromise -something they could be proud of, too, and requested an offer from his part. His response? "The demand for my services exceeds my ability to supply. Just look around your neighbourhood to see how many homes we're doing. I don't need to justify my work." We interpret this as: they will rest on their laurels - they have plenty of business, they don't need to resolve our problems with them. We would absolutely not use Markham Landscaping again. Postscript: I see that they have replied below, so I tried to clarify a couple of items here. But the response is disappointing - their facts are different than ours, including the description of the work, and I just don't hear the sense of responsibility for not returning calls within the warranty period. I woudl be happy to show pictures of the pipe sticking out of the lawn along much of where they laid it.

GREAT JOB! I WOULD HIRE THEM AGAIN ASAP. ALSO, I TELL MY NEIGHBOURS AND FRIEND'S ABOUT THEM TOO! GREAT COMPANY! Good prices, get the job done when they say they would. I wouldn't choose anyone else.

I had this landscaping and driveway done 10years ago and the workman ship was well done and they were very proffessional and they took there time to build and first of all before starting they sat with us to design and get our approval.
