Re Roofing Ontario

My wife and I took a leap of faith over the Christmas holidays and purchased a fully renovated house south of Kingston Road, near Brimley Road. The home inspector couldn't get up to inspect the roof because it was covered with snow, and there were three-foot snow banks around the perimeter of the house making access to the roof dangerous. We weren't worried because our RE/MAX agent assured us the roof was sound and only five years old.

Then the April wind storms came along and tore strips of shingles off with ease. Re-Roofing Ontario was quick to patch up the problem areas, however, in the process of making repairs, Steve noticed numerous examples of shoddy workmanship by the so-called "roofers" who had made the original installation.

The shingles were not nailed down properly, having only three nails per sheet, as opposed to the manufacturer's suggested four nails. Also, the nails were placed too high on the shingle, making it easier for them to be torn off by a breeze. Incredibly, Steve also noted that the so-called roofers had apparently set their nail guns to kill, as the nails had nearly penetrated the shingle. The shingles were practically floating off the roof on their own.

Further, the so-called roofers did not overlap the shingles. The tiles were placed side-by-side, allowing moisture to flow in between them, and in some cases leaving wood exposed to the elements.

Along the edge of the roof, instead of leaving an over-hang, the shingles were either lined up directly along the edge, or up to an inch above, not accounting for natural shrinkage of the tiles, and again leaving wood exposed to the elements.

The list of problems didn’t stop there. The skylights installed by the so-called roofers were slapped on carelessly, with inadequate flashing, and leaving wood exposed. One of the washroom exhausts was left to vent into the attic and generally, the attic ventilation was extremely poor.

In the end, Steve lived up to the many neighbourhood recommendations that we had received. He was on-site throughout the re-roofing process to ensure his workers met the high standards of the material manufacturers. Steve was also very meticulous for removing all debris.

Steve is not only a conscientious professional, he’s also a man on a mission to save Ontario homeowners from the lack of adequate roofing regulators and regulations in the province.

We found Steve to be a most knowledge and reliable contractor. All work was done on time and in a first class manner. The work was completed very professionally. All of his workers were also polite and friendly. We have no hesitation in recommending Steve and his crew to anyone.

Initially, Steve and his crew replaced a small roof at the back of my house. I am a senior citizen and often uncomfortable with people working on my property. Steve put me at ease and completed the job well. He and his crew cleaned up everything. It was a positive experience and I will be using his company again to shingle the rest of my roof. I did use Steve and his company again for the rest of my roof and was even more impressed with his efforts. He found a leak that had been plaguing me for over 10 years! After I'd got several quotes from other roofers, Steve visited and provided a competitive quote along with explanations of what needed to be done which seemed to make more sense than what I'd heard from some of the other roofers. The scheduled date for the work had to be delayed by a few days owing to the effects of Hurricane Sandy, but I can't blame this on Steve! His crew seemed very competent and completed the job on time. Clean-up was meticulous. I've since been up on the roof and everthing seems in order. Great job!

We required re-roofing as well as replacement and redirection of eavestrough and downspouts. Attention was paid to protecting gardens and neighbour's property and great site clean up was provided every day. When additional issues arose about roofing and eaves requiring structural improvements, they were addressed at Re-Roofing's initiative rather than covered up and repairs were made at reasonable additional cost. A friendly and honest team that came highly recommended to us, we were very pleased with the job. Certainly not the cheapest of the quotes that we got, and be prepared to wait for them to be available, but it will be well worth the wait. We would recommend Steve and his crew to anyone without hesitation.

Steve Sweeney and Re-Roofing Ontario were recommended to us by a friend who was very happy with work he had completed by them. The job we wanted done on our century home was not simple; two flat roofs, shingled roof, removal of a chimney, replacement of two skylights, 3 levels of eaves, along with soffits and fascia. The quote was very reasonable compared to another well known roofing company we used in 2005 (who we were not happy with). Steve also recommended options that we had never considered. I contacted Steve - the owner of Re-Roofing ontario - following a recommendation from a friend that had his roof done by him a while ago. After reviewing the scope of the work at my house he spent a great deal of time going over all the details involving the work itself, the different options for materials, all the related costs, schedule, etc. He is very a knowledgeable professional, organized, and very accommodating for his time. We then finalized the scope which was a complete re-roofing and re-build of 2 chimneys, and the quote for the job. The work was completed in time, within budget, and it looks top quality.

I've been extremely happy with the service I've received from Re-Roofing Ontario - for many reasons. The following are just a few:

1) the excellent overall quality of the work and the great care in keeping the site extremely clean (the neighbours happy) and safe, following every work day.

2) the great pride that Steve takes in his job and the fact that he maintains his promises, i.e. he said that he personally follows every single job by being on site all the time, and he did just that.

3) he is always available when you need to talk to him about the job for whatever reason.

4) he has a crew of competent and organized workers that are just as passionate for their job as he is.

5) he's honest. He does not aggressively chases extras like many other contractors do once they've secured the job at a very low price. This is because his quote/estimates are realistic and he doesn't need to undercut the competion with unreasonably low estimates in order to secure the job. If something completely unforeseened or unexpected shows up (which in renovations of any type are almost the norm) he brings it up immediately and gives you options on how to go about it. He also sticks with the prices, which are very reasonable, and he doesn't play games.

I would recommend Re-Roofing Ontario any day, as a very competent, honest and organized company for any type of roofing work or masonry work associated with the roof.

This is the second project I have asked Re-Roof and Steve to work on for my house. The first roof was the peaked roof in the front of my house , and this second project was more significant given how poorly others had done in replacing the flat roof.
The work took two days in total, and Steve and his team did an awesome job. Meticulous is the understatement. Took photos of before, during and after which he has shared and you can tell the quality through the pictures. What I also like about his team, is how they manage to maintain the property clean (or as clean as it can get when you're doing roof work). He is very careful and respectful of people's property's. Highly recommend him. Even though the price was a little higher than other bids, the quality far outweighed the difference in cost.

Steve and his whole crew were exceptional in every way. We have watched a number of roofing jobs done in our neighborhood and over the years, and were not filled with confidence by what we observed. Steve was recommended and made an appointment to come and look at our roof. In the meantime, we developed quite a serious leak. He came right away, temporarily fixed the leak and left us a quote on the job. The quote and the contract to be signed were very clearly and professionally laid out. This was representative of him and his work. He and his men were a pleasure to have around: polite, considerate, neat and extremely clean. The job took several days, and at the end of each day, there was no sign that they'd even been there. They also took great care with the flowers and plants, with no damage to anything. I recommend him highly and without reservation. He went beyond the terms of the contract, making some small repairs that turned up. While his price was somewhat higher than most other quotes, we feel that he delivered much greater value. We recommend him highly and without reservation. I'm sorry we won't see him again as I'm sure this roof will outlast us! (But our heirs will benefit.)
