Goodman A/C install

Folks,
please get EVERYTHING in writing with this company, particularly regarding what is and isn't covered in warranty. If you get your unit installed in spring time, TEST IT as soon as possible within the years warranty the next year, as this company has had a history of faulty installations leading to leaked/depleted freon, and once the year's past, you are completely out of luck. Chances are, you won't find out until you turn on your unit in the summer that a faulty install has led to the freon depletion.
Take explanations for unit failure from their technicians with a grain of salt - the technician who deemed our unit defective said he thought a lightning strike was the cause. (not accepting the obvious, which was the freon leak and subsequent compressor failure on start up) Interesting theory given the unit's location between houses and the fact its 2.5 feet tall!

Beware as well that the salesperson will likely NOT tell you about factory warranties and extended warranties, as to create additional revenue opportunities like the above once their own 1 year warranty expires.

They are also just as likely to play 'he said, she said' about the manufacturer's own claims, will cite possible 'service bulletins' and will hang you out to dry in terms of assistance with warranty follow up and assistance.

Overall, simply one of the worst big-ticket item vendors I've had the misfortune to deal with. And sad too, because a simple acknowledgement and apology for the situation would have sufficed,as well as some follow up calls during the entire process (i initiated all follow ups) but they've left me with such a sour taste I will do what I can to warn others in hopes of their avoiding my negative experience with them.

Approximate cost of services:
$2,000.00
What could this company do to improve their services?
Communication and honesty and transparency about their services; willingness to admit issues with installation and reigning in technician's implausible explanations for obvious install and unit failure; upfront explanation of technical repair and get it in writing too.
Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
Get everything in writing. Ask every angle of questioning pertaining to warranty and what is included. Present them with scenarios and ask/ write down their responses to what is covered. Consider alternate vendors or at least know you've been warned if things go south 1 year in with your unit.
