Discovered some insulation/moisture issues from a previous basement reno done poorly, and wanted to get garage re-insulated as well as we have room above that's always cold and window frame completely drafty, large gaps in construction/ support walls letting in too much cold and causing mositure. Finished Basement was way too cold and drafty - didn't want to hang out there. Always wanted spray foam as performance is very high and no vapor barrier needed, perfect for basements and concrete walls, as they have special issues compared to other floors of house. (moisture)
Read about Peter from RFD and had him do spray foam insulation on complete basement and full garage, including ceiling and all walls.
Communication was excellent with Peter and he always called back, even if being late, etc no surprises or lack of knowing what's going on. Never hesitate to answer my questions or concerns and I called him several times. Always took the time to answer.
Peter showed up with his dad and they are a great combo, they believe in doing the job right and care about their work. This is important. Speaking with them together they have a lot of experience which is good and well rounded. Reminds me of my dad and I somewhat as well.
I called him back to touch up some small spots because of difficult ceiling overhang that was not really taken out, they didn't hesitate and came back no problem. This is what you want and the right thing to do if you ever have to call someone back. The service and support is there.
Some clean up was required as Peter did not have his vacumme with him, however the basement at that point was partially finished just didn't want to drag all through the house. THey did cover up and staple plastic, sweep etc and vent fumes outside. Ideally this is something that you would want done at the stage of unfinished areas or construction, but can be done on existing homes or previous finished basement.
Spray foam performance made my basement the warmest level on a two story house, had to reduce heating duct as it was too warm!! Basement is completely sealed now from many drafts and sill plate leaks before. No more moisture issues or mold, nothing. In my area of houses 27 years old, the basement was not well constructed to be well insulated either, so spray foam really helped. My neighbor wants a new fireplace installed in her basement as a result. However this has been a better investment now the basement is comfortable you actually WANT to use the space and has more utility now.
Word of advice, get all changes, electrical, framing or anything else done before spray foam is in, much easier to work with on previous finished. Give installer as much room as possible as they only really have a paint gun size to work with.
Thanks for the hard work and good job. Appreciate what this gives back now.
