Think twice before buying a Stepper Home

Here's my series of unfortunate events with my Stepperhome.

First day of possession of the house, the Main shower and bath leaked down to my kitchen when my daughter took a shower, after a month, the exterior outlet is wired wrong keeps tripping the breaker also the electrical panel is not label properly. On the 6th month, Mainfloor Ceiling got repaired due to water leak again from main shower and bath water fixtures.

Less than a year after possession, water leak on the back window, they said somebody came out and fixed it but, it leaked again after a year. Warranty manager said, any water driven by air is not covered by warranty, but the house should be sealed properly regardless of what ever condition.

On the 3rd year, noticed multiple small crack on the stucco, 4th year, brown liquid coming out of the cracks on the stucco.

I asked their warranty manager about it he said stucco is not part of the building envelope, the guy is a work of art, I tell you.

Here's the best part, before the 5 year warranty ends with ANHW, I filed a claim regarding the stucco cracks. From the date the Claim assessor did his report and from the time they finally worked on the back stucco. It took them a year and a half. They said my house is not their priority because they're fixing other houses with severe damage.

They opened the back wall and guess what, OSB wood is completely rotten, insulation is saturated with moisture and the molds and you would not believe it.

This Stepper home is only 5 years old. So, my message think twice before buying from Stepperhome.

New Home Build

Buyer Beware.
I have built several new homes in the past and I can easily say Stepper is the worst experience I have encountered.
As soon as you pay them, they are gone!
It took a great effort to even get the build completed! Deficiencies?! Good luck, it took a year of hounding them just to fix a lock! Almost all deficiencies I just gave up on or had completed myself.
The warranty people are by far the worst, wont even return calls or emails at all.
The most incompetent group of people I have had to deal with to date.
BUYER BEWARE!

Poor house builds. Brutal after they get paid.

This was our second home built with Stepper. The first one 10 years ago went great, but wow have things ever changed. Stepper makes a lot of promises when you're about to move in and there's a lot of deficiencies. They say they'll fix and take care of everything. You give them the check and they're gone. You call and call, email and email. Promises, no shows are common. Stalling tactics til your year warranty is done then they really ghost you. Our basement floor is beyond cracked and needs to be replaced, 7 windows don't close, fireplace stone is coming apart, put the washer and dryer upstairs instead of down!, didn't insulate a outside wall, grading wasn't finished,
outside trim is terrible work, flooring is separating, the list goes on. Don't ever pay them in full until all fixes are made! They try to get you to believe it's all normal and accept their terrible work. Unfortunately our friends built with them in Mahogany and had the same experience as well.
This company is circling the drain.

Sloppy job , making scandals when it comes to warranty

My experience with Stepper has been horrible. I had many issues with their new house and went through hell every time I had to repair their work. They kept bullying me all the time , hoping I would disappear and they won’t have to pay workers to redo / repair their job. Putting up a spectacle every time I had to ask them to repair as per our warranty contract. Their maintenance manager is more then useless and I think he intentionally behaves this way to avoid paying for their sloppy job to be repaired. I bought this house in 2016 and they failed to honour the part of the contract for cleaning the furnace . Again I lost 2 days of work , waiting without even a call for Stepper workers to do a job and having to listen to another fight of Stepper workers trying again and again to avoid doing their job.
I will NEVER BUY a STEPPER HOUSE since their work is sloppy , leaving behind too many works to be repaired and having to put up with fights and spectacles from their workers when it comes to honouring their warranty
There are many builders out there to choose from , please do yourself a favour and don’t pay Stepper , unless you like to have ongoing issues and fights from Stepper workers

Do not keep promises that are made.

Horrible warranty service. They make a bunch of promises and tell you certain things then they wait till your warranty is up then they use that to not have to fix anything. I dealt with one warranty guy since I purchased my home. Few things are suppose to be repaired and one of them is a major one. I was told it would be repaired under Stepper because its behind the walls and there is nothing the homeowner could have done to cause it to make noise. This has also been an issue since day 1. The person I was dealing with is no longer there and the other guy that took over is useless. Only thing he knows how to say is "Out of warranty". Shouldn't matter whether the other guy is still with the company or not, he was the face for Stepper each time he went to anyone's home for warranty and told homeowners things will be inspected/repaired.

DO NOT buy from Stepper Homes unless you want a poorly built home and a warranty team that makes up excuses until your warranty is up then uses that to not fix anything and makes you pay out of your own pocket.

Great Sales Team

Stepper Homes came recommended by my realtor and I was really impressed to find out about their proven track record, family values, and philanthropic initiatives which inevitably lead me to make the decision to build with them. I was also impressed with the sales team who accommodated all my requests and were wonderful to work with.
There were some bumps in the road after I got possession but I am thrilled to have a lovely home in a great neighborhood.

Company Response

Hi Meagan,

Thank you for reaching out to our Team. We have read your review and truly appreciate the time that you took to share your thoughts.

As a company that takes our Customer Care very much to heart, this is not the outcome that we anticipate when building homes for our customers.

At Stepper, we have the utmost respect for our homeowners and the well-being of their entire household. We take pride in building one quality home at a time, and “making right” on things that need to be fixed. In the case of your home, we feel that the issues discussed have been addressed and resolved, and that the compensation offered to you was fair, but subsequently rejected. The gift cards were not meant to replace this, but just as a gesture of goodwill.

Our Team has been committed to building great relationships with our homeowners for more than 60 years, and for many years to come. Our door is open to any question or concerns that you may have, and we’ll certainly be here when you need us.

Warmest Regards,

The Stepper Team
