Our Dream Home...

We selected Parkwood to build our dream home. This was the first time my wife and I built a home and we really appreciated the support we received throughout the process. We had many MANY questions and they were answered in a quick/efficient & friendly manner by our Sales Pep Randy Hiebert. We loved the fact that we were able to design our house to fit our needs and not have to choose a standardized floor plan. I also appreciated the professionalism and friendliness of the entire team, especially our sales rep Randy. The service from him carried on once we took possession of our home. In all new construction situations things happen and it was good to have follow-up support.
Our overall experience with Parkwood was good and we would recommend them to our family and friends.

Parkwood Home

We moved into our new Parkwood home a month ago, it was a 13 month process which had a few delays due to architectural requirements in the neighbourhood where some changes needed to be made to the home. Parkwood was very accommodating in making changes to the home as we have many custom features. There was some personnel turnover shortly after we signed the deal but we were provided a new sales person a couple times which seemed to delay things a little but I believe that was just timing of the current economy. We eventually started to work with Randy Heibert and he was genuinely helpful even though we hadn't signed our initial purchase with him. He kept us updated through the building process on a weekly basis which was great. We really appreciated his help and feedback, he always wanted to work with us to help us get everything we wanted. I would recommend him to anyone. As for Parkwood itself, our home was not quite 100% complete when we took possession but it was nothing that we couldn't go without for a few days or a week. They worked with us around our schedule to make sure the items got done in the first month of possession. I very much enjoyed working with the electrical contractor as they were friendly and helped me get exactly what I wanted in the house. Overall the experience was a very good one, I know a colleague who built with them as well with no complaints and recommended Parkwood to us.

Pre-Building Phase

Prior to officially deciding on Parkwood as our builder, we spent several months researching multiple companies, communities, and houses. We have strived to be both well researched and informed throughout the process of not only selecting a custom home builder but also when making interior and exterior selections. Having a significant voice throughout the building process, where we are able to explore multiple alternatives and integrate our design ideas into the plans, was central to our decision to work with Parkwood.

Our Area Sales Manager, Randy, has demonstrated outstanding customer service from the first time we stepped foot in the Riverside Show Home and throughout the pre-construction phase. Prior to finalizing agreements, Randy requested multiple estimates from the office team and ensured to consistently follow up with us in a timely manner. This help us stay as close as possible to our purchase price during the design selection process, but it also reinforced Randy's dedication to excellence as he ensured there were as few surprises as possible in a transparent manner. Preferring to be very hands on through the building process, we consistently communicate with Randy to discuss details and ask questions as they arise. He continues to be our closest point of contact with Parkwood and acts as a key liaison with all essential members of the Parkwood team working on our home.

We have also had the opportunity to work with staff from Kitchen Kraft, Park Lighting, Coast Appliances, and Paramount AV. We have been very impressed with all of these other service providers and also experienced attentive customer service. Our appointments have been easy to schedule and very informative.

We look forward to providing more reviews throughout the building phase.

Roofing Disaster

2 years into owning my home and I have significant mold, water ingress and ceiling damage; clearly an issue with the original roofing quality. Very saddening quality for a brand new home. Front walkway is cracking all over, humidifier has not worked since day 1 after I repeatedly asked to have it looked at. Fully expecting a comment from them on here to make themselves look reputable to the public yet again. Just like my electrical was never laid out as specified.
So thanks again parkwood, I'll have to rent a manlift to get to my second tier roof and repair YOUR horrible subcontracted craftsmanship. There is absolutely no reason for a roof to be allowing water into my home 2 years into ownership.

Worst builder ever

This has been a complete nightmare throughout the last two years in dealing with parkwood. From the moment our original sales person quit it went downhill, there was no follow up as to what's happening with your build and having to to go through multiple sales people was ridiculous as they don't care about your file anymore. This was only the beginning, the construction process was even worse, plans and customizations that were discussed at the office was not even forwarded to the construction supervisors and when you were brought in for the electrical walk through, my kitchen was completely built wrong! Parkwood also has the nerve to charge you $750 for every change order that you request after the initial construction meeting, but they will never compensate you for the time and hassle when they make multiple mistakes on the same item. We literally had to be on site everyday just to ensure that the house was built correctly, and even then it was so stressful because it took a lot of emailing, calling, complaining just to get what we paid for. Mind you, parkwood has a ridiculous system where you are not allowed to contact the people in the office, you can only leave a million messages and emails and hope that someone will get back to you within a reasonable timeframe.

The story gets worse. At the time of posession, we explicitly told parkwood that we will not take posession of the house if my stair railings are not installed. Well they promised that it will be installed or else I wouldn't transfer the money. Well guess what, the railings were not installed and in fact they didn't even know when the railings will be available. By the way, the house plan has a open to below set up, meaning if you tripped and fell on the second floor there's a 10 feet drop and we were expecting kids to be staying at my house. Aside from this, walls weren't fully painted, I had a hole in my mud room, and there were a million other things not done. In other words, the house was not ready. When I asked the owner about this, he responded saying why I was so pessimistic, and acted like it was my problem that the house was in this state because I wanted to move in. And I quote him saying, " the house has a roof, running water and electricity, you can take posession of the house". This is the customer service that they provide. No apology for the many many errors, the stress and the inconvenience caused. After we moved in, it was another three months of construction going on inside the house, so imagine the dust, paint smells, and the trouble they cause, and they were never apologetic. They forget that people have jobs to go to, and can't just stay home for them to finish their job that was suppose to be done months ago. And the funny thing is, they expect you to leave your keys and let their trades come in to finish their job, because we obviously have complete trust and faith in parkwood and their trades! (Note the Sarcasm here)

So we fast forward to the one year mark, and we are suppose to have the walk through. Well when we were building our deck, the railings would not be installed properly since parkwood decided to put the electrical outlet right where the railings needed to be secured to the wall, so we emailed and called parkwood and they never responded in time, so we had to fork out money to relocate the outlet. This was sent out in late May of 2016 and now it is November, and we still haven't heard back from the warranty department. By the way, parkwood is unable to keep their staff, over the course of the year they probably changed 5-6 people in the warranty department. And before you reach a solution, a new person comes in and the process of emailing starts again, also note that they will NEVER return your calls, and when you go to the office in person asking to see the manager, the receptionist will tell you that they won't see you. That's the service you get a parkwood.

Overall, this has yet to be the worse house building experience ever and our family is so disappointed to the point that we can't wait to move out of this house and even when speaking to those who also built with parkwood we all share similar feelings. This just speaks to how awful this company treats their customers. And even till this day there is still a lot of things that remain unfinished and probably will never get fixed. My advice to you is never go with this builder, you save a lot of time, stress and grief. Trades that come to fix things in our house even say for every other house they fix, they go to parkwood homes five times, just shows that their workmanship is pretty lousy.

Dream Home

We explored many builders for good 5+ years including Parkwood but we were not convinced if they were the right choice. It was Jill Toshach, Area Sales Manager - Aurora, who made us comfortable that Parkwood can built us our dream home to our expectations. A truly customized home with loads of upgrades and many iterations of design / re-design and re-design. The whole Parkwood team including owner deserved credit. Special thanks to Jill Toshach for her continued leadership and support even post possession. She guided us at every step from selection of the right lot, negotiations and throughout construction phase.

The over-all workmanship is above satisfactory levels but just like any other new house, it has some issues and a list of 'incomplete', 'totally missed' and/or 'to be fixed' items. The good thing is Parkwood has shown positive and steady approach towards knocking-off items of the list.

Some items are put on 'after - winter' fixing list. And I hope I will be writing another review in Spring 2017 to thank Parkwood.

New home purchase

When we bought the house in Feb the main door was not painted and the landscaping was not done. They told us at that time they will do once the temperature gets higher. It is Sep now and they still have not done it. We sent so many emails but no body is following up. We had worst experience with this builder. Please do not by house from them at all.
