Sunroom addition and home renovations...

We had considered a sunroom addition to our 30 year old home....our first consultation with Kevin was 8 years prior to the project - running joke was that it took us that long to fully commit....but our project expanded to not only have a sunroom addition, but a change into an open concept kitchen, dining room, with a den that could serve as a visitor's bedroom....this whole concept was proposed to us by Kevin, Jonathan and we were quite pleased....but this whole project included removing an old deck, excavation, redoing all our electrical, plumbing...and then an interior designer for the kitchen....

Huge project, but shovel to ground started in November, and completed in April....we lived in our basement and made do with the inconveniences of the renovation....

Well - we are quite pleased, and our experience was very good....they came in on a regular basis, kept the disturbance to an acceptable level, it was messy, but the staff made efforts to ensure functional and clean space for us to live in our home...any complications during the construction (frozen pipes; home broken into) - it was during the winter season - were readily addressed....things were cleaned up, payment plan that was clear, with minimal deviation from the proposed pricing - we are quite content with the expensive but good quality product....

We have since hosted family and friends frequently...we have enjoyed the bright rooms and many guests have always commented on the quality of the workmanship....and how our home has been transformed!

I have always had concerns of a cold winter sunroom or an unbearable warm room in the summer...honestly, the rooms are quite comfortable the whole year round....

In fact, we were so impressed with the interactions, and professionalism, I asked Kevin and the crew to remodel a bedroom to my own personal office with enlarged windows....again, I am most content with the work done....cost is not cheap, but the product is to my satisfaction....and in view that we plan to live here for many years to come - in all honesty, I am willing to give Permawood my strongest recommendation for sunroom and home renovations....

Company Response

My apologies for the tardy reply to this review , in a world where 100 + e mails a day is a reality.... I honestly just came across it today in my Homestars App. So nice to hear how our " little idea" has transformed your home and your home life. 8 years in the making ( true story ! ha ) I am glad that it was worth the wait !! Kim , Liesly ....it was a pleasure . Now all that's left is to Enjoy !! Best . Kevin ( PS sadly your 8 year PW incubation period record was just surpassed by client we will be building for this Fall in Toronto. We 1st conceived and proposed the space in 2004....and 14 years later . Voila !! lol )

Replaced Solarium

We were replacing a 25 year old solarium at the back of our house. While we loved the light, we could never be in the room, it was too hot in the summer and freezing in the winter. After much research, we went with the Perma-Wood company, even though we knew it would be very expensive. It turned out to be worth every penny! They replaced the ugly metal window frames with beautiful wood. The designer made wonderful suggestions to have huge big windows instead of lots of little ones, and spent hours and hours going over details with us as to hardware, and various options we never would have thought of. (like retractable screens). They set up in March, completely closed off the room from the rest of the house with an insulated temporary wall so we weren't inconvenienced at all during the renovation. They came every single day, rain, snow or shine, and completed the work in less time than they'd even quoted, about a month and a half. All the work was done custom to the job, each piece of wood measured and cut on site. The result was stunning, and we couldn't be happier with the result.
The windows are so efficient that we have no problem now with cold in the winter, heat in the summer. We have the light with none of the problems we experienced with our old solarium so it was like gaining another room. We did this work in 2011 and it's still looks gorgeous and like new.

Cedar wood solarium

We had our solarium built 12 years ago, last year it started to fail in that various minor leaks occurred. We don't know why and we did not have a good service for backing up the repair up to this moment. One glass just failed recently.

Tbe repair has been carried out and the owners have come to my house twice. It costs me $3700 and the owner is confident that we should be enjoying a leak free solarium for quite a while. If you do not see any follow up from now, it means that I have no more problem with this solarium.

Company Response

PLEASE SEE BELOW THE CONDENSED VERSION OF THE ACTUAL DIGITALLY RECORDED SERVICE HISTORY FOR THIS 14 YEAR OLD PROJECT :
Small 2nd storey sunroom bump out completed and signed off by customer on 07/27/1995.$15,500.00 paid in full /23 pcs of glass in total. SERVICE CALL for 1 broken piece of glass jan 1999. No warranty on impact related glass breakage so Service Agreement sent and executed / glass replaced 3/16/99/ customer put through home insurer due to nature of fracture. paid by insurer SERVICE CALL 10/02/2003 small leak reported. Service man to site same day / minor glazing repair ,less than 1 hour ,no warranty (8 years old) so invoice sent for 95.00 plus tax /rec'd payment 6 weeks later/SERVICE CALL 3/26/2009-customer reported ice damm/ PW inspected (no charge) and sent Service Agreement for installation of deicing cables 4/3/2009 by e mail. No reply from client so filed SERVICE CALL 7/13/2009-client suspects one failed sealed roof glass unit (10 yr manufacturer warranty on glass expired 2005) PW spoke to client via voice and e mail 7/13, 7/25 (sat), 7/28...upset that he has to pay for service at all let alone at 95.00 per hour ( one man/one truck rate )and that he has 1 piece of glass (of 23) with a failed hermetic seal after "only "14 years . Despite the fact PW neither manufactures nor warranties glass and regardless of the fact client is in possesion of our written 5 year Perma Wood Warranty certificate from inception (and refaxed at his request in 1/12/1999) stating our policy in this regard he is suggesting, well now stating, that PERMAWOOD doesnt stand behind its product. To anyone reading this ...you be the judge ,Thank you

Small addition/conservatory

I Love my new conservatory!!! My site manager Wolfe was extremely patient and open to any changes that I requested along the way and suggested subcontractors for additional projects that evolved from the original. The workmanship was professional, timely, and very efficient. This project was undertaken in the dead of winter and involved removing a wall from the existing structure, the inconvenience was kept to a minimum and work proceeded on schedule. I would highly recommed this company.
