We were replacing a 25 year old solarium at the back of our house. While we loved the light, we could never be in the room, it was too hot in the summer and freezing in the winter. After much research, we went with the Perma-Wood company, even though we knew it would be very expensive. It turned out to be worth every penny! They replaced the ugly metal window frames with beautiful wood. The designer made wonderful suggestions to have huge big windows instead of lots of little ones, and spent hours and hours going over details with us as to hardware, and various options we never would have thought of. (like retractable screens). They set up in March, completely closed off the room from the rest of the house with an insulated temporary wall so we weren't inconvenienced at all during the renovation. They came every single day, rain, snow or shine, and completed the work in less time than they'd even quoted, about a month and a half. All the work was done custom to the job, each piece of wood measured and cut on site. The result was stunning, and we couldn't be happier with the result. The windows are so efficient that we have no problem now with cold in the winter, heat in the summer. We have the light with none of the problems we experienced with our old solarium so it was like gaining another room. We did this work in 2011 and it's still looks gorgeous and like new.

In the initial meeting, the agent from Gem Windows made a great recommendation about the kind of windows to install... he talked me out of getting expensive wood windows which he told me I didn't need for 2 backyard facing bedrooms, but that he could enhance the look of vinyl windows with wood trim. This worked out perfectly and was exactly the look I wanted. The crew came on time, installed the windows quickly and efficiently, laid out protective material to protect carpets and floors, and cleaned up thoroughly after the work was finished. The cost was very reasonable and I'm very pleased with the final results. The windows look nice, are super easy to open and close, upper and lower panels bend inward for easy cleaning, and they can accommodate an air-conditioning unit (which would have damaged wood windows). I'm very happy with this company and would recommend them to anyone shopping for windows! I haven't had any need for follow up, but have been pleased so far with their Customer Service. I had a previous VERY bad experience with the Customer Service of a different window company, Shaw Windows, so this window experience has been a pleasure from start to finish.
