Kitchen renovation

We purchased an IKEA kitchen this summer, and had it installed by PEG. We are very pleased with the result, and with the quality of the work done by the various contractors that came to tear out the old kitchen, install the new cupboards, do required plumbing and electrical work, and install a new backsplash. All of them arrived on time, were courteous, friendly and skilled. They were helpful when asked questions. Communication with the office was also very good, and Michelle was very helpful with scheduling. As far as price is concerned, we did not get any other quotes, so have nothing to compare it to. It was not inexpensive, but since we are pleased with the work, we are not complaining. Thanks to Siggy, Richard, Yuri, Vasil and Matthew and all the other helpers. We would recommend PEG to others.

Kitchen Installation

I engaged PEG to install my IKEA kitchen. This was my first experience with this kind of project and I explained it to them at the outset. The people I dealt with (Michelle, Jim, Rita, Bill and Lansze) were extremely helpful and courteous to me.The work was professionally completed. Minor concerns were immediately attended to. The follow up on satisfaction was great. The price was right. I would use their services again and recommend them to others.

PEG installed our Ikea kitchen. After a very frustrating time dealing with Ikea, they were the saving grace. They showed up on-time, were hard working, professional and precise. Richard & Reinhard have my full recommendation.

Thank you so much for the positive feedback and choosing PEG. It is always great for our employees to receive such positive feedback, it keeps them committed to providing excellent customer service. As well, it’s important to keep in mind, that a renovation project is truly a team effort between client, contractor and all the different trades. We hope you enjoy your kitchen for years to come.

Kitchen Installation

I recently helped my parents renovate their kitchen. Although we used a different contractor for most parts of the project, the IKEA kitchen was installed by PEG. Our experience with them was very good. The price was as quoted (which was very reasonable). The measurement rep, installation team and office staff were all very friendly, professional and efficient. There were a few minor hiccups after installation and the service call was scheduled and completed within 48 hours which was very much appreciated and goes to their desire to provide excellent service. We would highly recommend using their services.

Kitchen measurement/planning

We did the measurement service and kitchen planning service through Peg given their reasonable rates ($99 per cabinet sounded great). Unfortunately all of their "auxiliary" contractors (electricians, plumbers, general contractors) are much, much more expensive than industry average. For example, the electrician quote was almost $6000. The professional electrician that I ended up going with did a great job and came in at around $2500. In the end, we ended up going with a different Ikea installer for the cabinets ($3000), a general contractor for the demolition/removal of old cabinets/counter ($500), and our own electrician and plumber ($2500 and $250) and ended up with a beautiful kitchen at a fraction of Peg's price. The measurement and planning service were done well, however they were sunk costs.

Thank you for taking time to post your review. PEG takes customer feedback very seriously and it is important to us to know how we are perceived. PEG is a service company and thus can and does offer additional services beyond just a basic installation of an IKEA kitchen. PEG enters into contracts with our clients, detailing each of these additional services, however, if our clients feel that any of these prices are too high, we do not pressure them into accepting these services. Clients are free to choose whether or not they accept and use our services as quoted.

Kitchen Installation

If you've chosen PEG for your kitchen installation, you've likely purchased an Ikea kitchen. Firstly, although Ikea kitchens aren't necessarily of the absolute highest quality, given what you actually pay for them, especially during one of their kitchen events, they are actually a pretty good deal for what you are getting. But beware - this is where the good times end. If you are looking to pay PEG to install your kitchen, you will likely spend upwards of 50% of what the actual kitchen cost you just on the installation itself. PEG's service are grossly overpriced compared to having a private contractor (who is specialized in Ikea kicthens) install it for you. With what you pay for the kitchen and then for the installation, you're actually in the ballpark for a lower-end custom kitchen. I paid $2700 for 2 1/2 days of work, while the kitchen itself only cost me $4500 (not incl counter) after the discounts from the kitchen event were applied. Furthermore, (to PEG's credit, not their fault), I need to spend an additional $800 or so to have a finish cabinetry company come in to manufacture and install some finish trim work that is not available via Ikea. So in total I'm looking at approx an $8000 cost. I could probably toss in another $2-3k and have a pretty decent custom kitchen. All in all, I found their installation work to be satisfactory at best, but nothing over the top. The jobsite was left messy each night, while the installer insisted on cutting inside the house, creating an absolute dust disaster. My advice would be one of two things: one - if you insist on going with an Ikea kitchen, seek out a private contractor via a local web search - you're likely to find someone who can do it for significantly lower than PEG. Two, if you would only trust PEG because they come recommended from Ikea, seek out quotes from custom manufacturerers. You will be surprised to find out that custom kitchens, utilizing the same material that Ikea uses, actually don't cost that much more for supply and install. Furthermore, they will be custom tailored for your space and will come with way more design options. The moral of the story: PEG is overpriced and make Ikea kitchens far more expensive overall than what you would originally think.

Company Response

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback about our company. It is apparent that you did not have a satisfactory experience with PEG and for that we sincerely apologize. While we typically do any cutting right on site, unless the client has requested otherwise, our installers are instructed to clean up the job sites at the end of each day. In this case, it is apparent that this did not happen so we will be reviewing customer service guidelines and installation processes with all of our installation technicians. Clients are encouraged to get multiple quotes when doing major renovation projects (the cheapest is not always the best) but keep in mind that you want to work with an installer that you will be comfortable with, as well as one that is experienced, licensed and appropriately insured. . As for the cost of PEG’s services, we have been in business for over twenty years, are an IKEA Certified Kitchen Installer, Licensed Renovator and a member of the Toronto Construction Association as well as insured by RSA, covered by WSIB, and require police reference certificates from our team members. Ultimately, the choice is yours whether you use our services or not.

kitchen installation

After 25 years of waiting for a new kitchen I finally received it with thanks to IKEA and PEG. Our experience with them was great. The price was as quoted, the installation team was very professional and courteous. The job was completed in less than 2 days with no mess or fuss. The men actually helped with other items that my husband needed assistance with. I would highly recommend you use their service rep to come in & measure and walk you through this process. Wouldn't have receive my dream kitchen without them.......

Kitchen Reno

So my boyfriend and I bought a condo and we decided to renovate the whole place, but were on a tight timeline. We used PEG because Ikea told us to. I have been looking at the other issues with PEG that people tell and it's funny for me to see the company completely disregard the problems that they have caused people, and simply blame the customer instead of taking responsibility, so I am very interested in seeing what they say about my comment. Since I work in social media, it's one of the first things that anyone will tell you is the worst idea for your company. Do NOT fight your customers as anyone who runs a good business knows that "the customer is always right." Especially on a social media platform.

First of all, my main concern is the fact that they take your money before they do anything, but refuse when they screw up to compensate for problems.
In short, the women Michelle on the phone is clearly someones daughter or family member because if anyone else was in her position and talked to a customer the way that she talked to me, she would be fired immediately. Might I add that I am a very calm and reasonable person, but I was waiting at home on "Day two" until 1pm and then called to asked why they had left our kitchen half done without anyone in the next day, Michelle told me that they had only booked me for one day.........

One day? I don't understand. Our kitchen is only half complete. Why would you only book one day if you've already taken our money and everyone told us it would be at least two.
Her very rude response went something like this: (and by something I mean exactly)

"I don't care if God himself told you it would be a two day job. We only booked you for one"

Okay. So,
1. Your company only booked us for one day when everyone that had seen the job and measured etc said it should be 2.

2. You get paid per cabinet, not per hour, and decided that you would wait for me to call and reschedule you to come finish the job that you have already been paid for

3. You're making rude religious comments like its my fault.

I'm sorry? So after all this their compensation ( after us having to stay in a hotel due to no running water because it would have cost less for us to do that then get our plumber in 2 times, my boyfriend and I having to take time off work, and ended up costing us over $600 in extra charges and we only asked for $400 plus whatever they thought was fair based on the way I was treated) was $150 and subtly but clearly because Michelle had been very rude to me and that they DO NOT compensate for any time off work or hotel rooms because of their mistakes. This may not seem like a lot of money to some people, but considering that I'm a 23 year old who is trying to start a life, save money for the future while still being able to live, $600 is a lot of money to me.

Finally, the only reason I know Michelle has not been fired, is because after I have been very specific about not wanting to talk to her anymore, she has called 2 more times (keep in mind this started over a month ago and it was a "ONE DAY JOB") because we are still having final issues with the way they set up our microwave.

I have seen other people have had good experiences with this company, and I know that the manager Joe has been extremely helpful once I got him involved and he seems to be the only person who really gives a crap about you, but I do suggest that if you're on a tight timeline and you need things to go remotely well, go with a company that is confident enough in their work that they will allow you to pay after they are done.

Company Response

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback about our company. It is apparent that you did not have a satisfactory experience with PEG and for that we sincerely apologize. You are correct - no customer should be spoken to the way that you were, and this incident has reminded us that we need to review our customer service guidelines with all of our employees. While we do strive to treat each of our customers with the utmost respect at all times, we are human too and do have a ‘bad day’ occasionally.
Projects such as this require teamwork between the client and their installation company. A kitchen is a central hub of any home and a project to renovate this space should be researched, planned, and certainly not rushed to completion – regardless of the size of the space involved. Based on your initial kitchen requirements our estimates were 1 day for assembly and install, but as we advise all clients, other things come into play that can lengthen the time you are without an operational kitchen: choice of countertop, plumbing and electrical requirements, missing/damaged items, as well as other services such as backsplash and flooring, etc. It is our policy to take payment on the first day of installation and all clients are made aware of this during the signing of the contract. We take our customer’s issues seriously and schedule our installers, based on availability, to return to correct deficiencies as soon as possible to finish your projects. While we are IKEA’s preferred installer, have been in business for over 20 years, carry liability insurance, and have police background checks done on our employees, the choice is ultimately yours whether you use our services or not.

IKEA kitchen cabinet install

PEG installed our condo kitchen cabinets from IKEA. With 12 cabinets, the job was scheduled for 2 days but the installation guys were able to have it completed in one day since there were no complicated cuts. The installation guys were friendly and professional and final results were good. Some comments about PEG: We purchased our cabinets after there was a kitchen sale at IKEA so they were really busy and the earliest they could schedule the job was three weeks from our purchase. However, I think they are always very busy so you should take this into account when planning your kitchen reno. Perhaps because PEG is so busy, I find it is not always easy to get a hold of them or they will not return your calls/emails in a timely fashion. After we had their measurement guy come and take photos and measure our kitchen, we went back to IKEA to finalize our plan and make a small update and then emailed PEG to finalize their quote. It took a week for them to get back with a final quote. When you do get someone on the phone, they are very friendly and helpful but they should try to be more responsive to returning calls/emails in a more timely fashion.
Comment about IKEA: The total kitchen deliver from IKEA contained 86 packages from boxes to small bags of hardware. This delivery included three cabinets which belonged to another customer and they missed 2 cabinet doors. Also the original purchase list failed to include cabinet legs. The PEG installers were helpful in identifying what was missing and I was able to go back to IKEA to get the missing pieces. Because the original delivery included someone else's cabinets, the total count inventory count did not trigger any issues.
