Installation of IKEA cabinets, etc

I bought my kitchen cabinets from IKEA and they referred me to PEG for the installation. When I got the quote from PEG, I thought it was expensive, but I decided to go with the pros on this one and I'm glad I did. The cabinet installation was great. The team (Gil and Victor) was very professional and they knew exactly how to make it look like it did in the IKEA showroom, complete with customized work and all. They really did an awesome job and worth every penny. I would hire those guys again in a second. 10 out of 10 on the cabinet installation.

Now that I've shared the good, I also have some complaints:

1) I found it very hard to get a hold of the office staff and they don't return calls when they say they will. Maybe they're really just that busy, but then the owners should hire more staff to satisfy the number of customers they have.

2) I paid extra to install my dishwasher. They sent a plumber who would only do the plumbing, but wouldn't touch the electical wiring - leaving me on my own to do this. To be fair, I rechecked my quote and it did not include electrical hook up charges. So, it was my fault that I didn't check my quote more closely, but I would think that should just be common sense, as you can't use the appliance without any power. Anyway, for the amount I paid to have my dishwasher connected (and it wasn't cheap) I think they should have done the full installation.

3) I asked for them to give me a quote on another small job and it took them 3 weeks to get back to me after following up 4 times. Again, back to my first point, if they're so busy that they can't get back to their customers in a reasonable time frame, they should hire more staff.

So, overall, I was very happy with the awesome work that Gil and Victor did on the cabinets (that would be a 10 out of 10 job), but PEG loses points in my book for leaving key elements out of my quote and for not responding to customer needs in a timely manner.

Company Response

While we ask our clients to carefully read the contract before signing it, we understand that renovating one's home is a big endeavor. This has shed light on how important it is for us to methodically go through the contract with our clients, step by step, so that nothing is left out. We thank you for bringing this to our attention, as it is our goal to continuously improve our practices. We also apologize for the delay in receiving your quote. The volume of quote requests have been extremely high at this time. Thank you for taking the time to write a review. It is with such honest feedback that we become aware of, and work hard to correct, the areas of our business practices that need to be strengthened.

I bought my kitchen cabinets from IKEA and they referred me to PEG for the installation. When I got the quote from PEG, I thought it was a little high, but I decided to go with the pros on this one and I'm glad I did. The cabinet installation was great. Now that I've shared the good, here's the bad:

1. I paid extra to have PEG send in their plumber to connect my sink and install my dishwasher. The sink connection was fine, but the plumber said that he doesn't hook up the electrical wiring on my dishwasher. I understand that he's not licensed or insured for electrical work, but I think PEG should have been really clear about that. To be fair, after reveiwing my contract again, I realized that it did say that electrical work was not included in the quote and I just missed it when I read it over. However, I think they really should have included it in the quote from the start or at least asked me if I wanted the electrical work done, rather than just assume I didn't and leave it out of the quote. Normally, when someone asks to have a dishwasher installed, they mean the whole installation, not just the plumbing without the electrical. I don't understand how they expect someone to use a dishwasher that has no power!

2. I asked for them to give me a quote on re-casing my kitchen window, since we had to remove the trim and casing during the reno. They said they could do the job, but never gave me the quote. I followed up with them 4 times and they still never provided me with the quote. I thought it was a really poor practice - I understand that casing a window is a small job and maybe not worth their while, but I did spend a lot of money on them installing my cabinets, etc, so there really is no excuse for them not following through on this. Plus, if they didn't want to do the job, they should have said so from the start and I would've shopped around, but they said they would do it and then never gave me the quote. I don't beleive that's a good way to treat paying customers.

So, overall, I was very happy with the awesome work that Gil and Victor did on the cabinets (that would be a 10 out of 10 job), but PEG loses points in my book for poor practices on the administrative side when developing quotes and in being responsive to their customers.
