Kitchen and Foyer Renovation

Kitchen Planning & Renovation review in Toronto

Barbara helped me update and expand my condo kitchen. Countertops and additional storage cupboards blended perfectly with existing kitchen. She brought professional painters to make my kitchen look magazine worthy! She designed a large, beautiful cabinet for my foyer. Life changing! Large, white marble like tiles brighten the entryway and seem to never get particularly dirty. Barbaras attention to detail was astounding. I began with no ideas but working with Barbara, I began to see the potential and we worked very well together.
I highly recommend Barbara for any update/renovation.

Accessibility Design

We hired Nikka Design to support us with some home accessibility designs, and in particular a major bathroom accessibility renovation. We received some of the guidance we were looking for, but not what we needed or expected.

Nikka Design did help us explore options through discussion during the consultation. However, we expected, based on the agreement, follow-up of informed options and choices for our design dilemmas in writing. Unfortunately, we ended up with very few usable suggestions and some google links. We ended up doing the bulk of the research ourselves.

Nikka Designs were pleasant to interact with in advance of the consultation and during the consultation, and genuinely sought to offer value from their recommendations after the consultation. If you are starting from scratch, this company might be a good fit for your project if you are very clear about your expectations before the consultation.

I'm sorry that you weren't fully satisfied with the outcome of the 2-hr design consultation.
The goal of this initial meeting is to learn about your needs and wants for the bathroom reno, start exploring ideas, provide professional design recommendations, discuss some product options, a realistic budget and timelines.
It is not intended to, nor is there time to research product options or the scope to provide complete answers and informed options and choices.

I apologize again that I wasn't able to more clearly communicate these goals.

In our email correspondence and phone call prior to meeting, I did outline the purpose of the consultation:

"The consultation is the first step of the NIKKA DESIGN process. This 2-hr working session would provide you with a set of preliminary design recommendations as the foundation for you to move forward with your project.

The objective of our first meeting is to learn about your project scope and to provide you with some, if not all, of the following, time permitting:
-learn about your accessibility needs
-provide bathroom design recommendations that account for accessibility functionality
-provide hand-drawn sketch of bathroom layout, if layout changes; and/or sketches of other bathroom design features
-provide input on accessibility product options
-if time allows, other living-in-place recommendations for your home
-review of your questionnaire replies
-feedback to your ideas
-general estimate of potential project costs
-summary of my recommendations, emailed to you on the next business day.

The consultation is comprehensive and detailed."

Renovation Design Consultation

We hired Barbara for design consultation on our kitchen and bathroom renovations and were happy with that. Barbara not only shared certain key points to keep in mind while interviewing contractors but also shared ideas on some of the other overlooked areas of our home including entryway, living and bedroom spaces. Some of the ideas with better furniture choices would help us with better space utilization and we probably should've had this consultation years ago before investing in all furniture. Towards the end of our consultation, we were provided with hand drawn sketches and some detailed notes over a follow up email.

Condominium renovation

We’ve mobility issues. Barbara took charge of project from soup to nuts...
Major scopes are to ensure condo is fully accessible to include a roll in shower, and removal of all floor transitions where they may exist.
Further, the scopes included converting a 3 bedroom with den suite, into a more open concept 2 bedroom with the kitchen now open to a great room ( den + converted bedroom).
Great job, will not hesitate to work with Barbara again!

Living room and kitchen design consultation

I wish I could give 11 stars!!! My name is Erin. My mom has a HomeStars account and put out a notice for me and my husband looking for a designer for our first house. When this company responded, I was very impressed with the profile and decided to give them a try. It ended up being a great decision!

Barbara is fantastic to work with. She gave excellent ideas that I hadn't thought of to help add storage to our small kitchen. She also gave lots ideas on designing our living room, both economical and mid to high end options. This was my first time working with a house designer but she was very friendly and listened to my ideas and suggested how to execute or how to improve upon them.

It was a great first experience and likely won't be our last. VERY highly recommended.

Basement floor plan

Barbara was extremely professional and has a clear communication style. She was sure to explore our needs and wants individually (both mine and my husband's), which I thought was an excellent way to ensure that everyone has a voice. Barbara was able to get us started on our floor plan by providing us with a to-scale drawing on the same day as her visit, which was immensely helpful as we were about to 'break ground' so to speak.

Barbara arrived at my house on time. She was pleasant and professional. Barbara took the time before our face-to-face to get to know me and what I was hoping to achieve with the look and feel of my house. We spoke again about my hopes when we met which was helpful as our telephone conversation spurred me to really think about what I wanted.
