Move from BC to Alberta

We had a great experience moving with Great Canadian Van lines from BC to Alberta from the estimate up until the point of delivery of our stuff. Employees from the company especially Shawn who came to do the estimate for us and arranged for the whole move and Jai the driver were very friendly, cooperative, and good at their work. We got our stuff on time as promised. We had no issues regarding any of our stuff. Jai did the packing and unpacking for all our stuff with great care and suggested us few things which worked well for us. We thank Great Canadian Van lines for making our move so much easier.

Long distance move

Untrustworthy...
I recently booked a move from Mississauga, Ontario to Winnipeg, Manitoba. After some online research I decided to go with Great Canadian. They were helpful at the beginning, answering all my questions and giving decent estimates, all thru one of their agents called Rick. On the day of my move I had a truck show up on time to load my stuff. The truck however was not a Great Canadian truck, it was under another company, Victoria moving company if I recall. I didn't mind that they were operating thru subcontractors as long as they were doing what was promised.
My stuff arrived in Winnipeg on time, and as per my request went into storage for a few days (this time under a different company, Riverbend movers).
So far so good, until i call to arrange a drop off then the storage company tells me that i should come asap because some of my stuff has been damaged due to a water pipe break. I drive down there on the same day to find 2 mattresses, a sofa set and two boxes soaked. After a short unsympathetic talk with the people there they tell me to contact Great Canadian and ask what their insurance covers, after two days of unanswered calls and a complete change in attitude, I finally get a reply that they were not responsible for the damage that had occurred, and that I should follow up with Riverbend and see what they have to offer in compensation. Needless to say after 8 weeks and more than $5,000 in damage, I have yet to receive a reply from either companies, I keep emailing and get nothing back..

Thank you for advising us of your concerns.

With moves of this nature there are two types of insurance involved Cargo and Warehouse.
The water damage to your goods occurred due to a pipe bursting at the warehouse and so your claim will fall under Warehouse insurance coverage; which Wayne from Riverbend Movers has identified in his email to you. He will provide all the contact information for the representative from the insurance company so you can deal directly with them.
Unfortunately Great Canadian cannot get involved with another companies warehouse insurance claim and their insurance company.

Thank you

Move between provinces

We moved across provinces and picked this company because they had the most positive testimonials on the net. They didn't disappoint. No issues on loading or unloading. Professional and efficient and followed up after completion of the move. What else would you want from a moving company?! Outstanding service. Do yourself a favor and stop searching, these guys are the one's that you want to use to do any moves anywhere.

Moving

After doing much research on moving companies to do our cross country move I decided on Great Canadian Van Lines because of their great overall reviews. From my first contact, Rick Valiant, who provided me with my quote, I already knew they would be the one to use. I got a quick and prompt response even with the upcoming Christmas holiday hours. He replied within the next day and won my business even though I got cheaper quotes elsewhere. After the $200 deposit was paid, dispatch called me within the next business day to setup my move pick up date.

Moving day came and they were delayed due to trailer truck issues, but Wade called me to let me know that they would get to us as soon as possible. They ran only about 1.5 hours late which was no big deal. Wade got to labeling all our items and had no problems with us adding more items after the fact. He wrapped up our king sized mattress and our large bed set which was taken apart in several large pieces. During this time Wade found a $100 bill under our bed and put it aside. Is this not an honest man or what? I was very impressed with this. Had it been any other person I'm sure they would've pocketed the money.

The weigh in for our move came to much heavier than quoted. I guess our few pieces of furniture were much much heavier than I anticipated. (King mattress, king bedset with large drawers attached, and large massage chair.) They emailed me a bill of lading with the final price and estimated time of arrival.

At the time the truck left Toronto I was given a phone call by dispatch to let me know that they would arrive in Calgary in about a week's time. Wade called me the day before arrival to set up a time the next day (on Sunday.) Being on a Sunday was even more of a convenience for me. (Their email stated that working crews didn't work Sundays and holidays.) Extra bonus!!

He and the other mover arrived 5 minutes early. They moved everything into the garage and house in about 1.5 hours. Nothing was missing!!!!! Yay! I've had missing boxes before when we did a move from Vancouver to Calgary and it stressed me right out!! I was very much relieved that everything arrived in good order.

Having Wade be the mover from the arriving end and the receiving end made things much simpler and gave me my piece of mind. My biggest stress was making sure all my boxes arrived. If you're looking for a mover to do a cross country move I highly recommend Great Canadian Van Lines. Thanks Wade (and movers,) Rick, and Mark for a job well done!!

Move BC to Ontario

This move was a disaster! The estimate changed 4 times from the original quote to the final invoice - and we never did receive a final breakdown & explanation of the invoice (which we asked for repeatedly). Packers arrived with inadequate supplies - client had to supply boxes. Numerous items arrived damaged or broken. Wrapping and packing was not well done. The truck leaked causing items to be water damaged. Communication with the company was extremely poor. Could not get an accurate delivery date. It took 50 days to finally deliver all the items! Final compensation was inadequate. We will not be using this company for our next move and cannot recommend it to anyone else.

$8,224.00
What could this company do to improve their services?
Prepare accurate estimates that do not continually change. Communicate with clients. Hire their own movers and packers or engage responsible ones.
Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
Find a different moving company!

Company Response

Hi Ronald,
I spoke with your sales person regarding your estimate. You were given an estimate based on what you advised her you were shipping and the reason for the estimate changing was she then came out to do an in home estimate.
At time of delivery you were given a copy of your bill and we also did email you another copy which does have a breakdown of all charges.
The packers did use a few boxes which you had purchased but we reimbursed you for the cost of these boxes.
There was a leak and anything that you noted to GCVL regarding damages you were fully compensated for and you have received the cheque and cashed it.
It was unfortunate that your driver had three boxes that he had to deliver at a later date. The rest of your shipment arrived on time based on your contract and $200.00 was given to you in your settlement for the three boxes being delayed.
Thank you,

Move cross country from Vancouver, B.C. to Toronto, Ontario

We wree looking for a reliable, honest, reasonably priced moving company who could assist with a bit of packing on the front end. I called many different companies and did alot of research. This was the only company that I found to be responsive and easy to deal with. My contact was a pleasure to talk to, always reassuring and never appeared to be annoyed with my constant questions!!!! He came to the apartment in Vancouver and did an assessment and in the end, was true to his word!!! The cost was exactly what we discussed with no hidden costs and I cannot tell you how much I appreciate the honesty!! As well, the movers were absolutely fabulous. Very professional and hard working. Thanks so much to the folks at Great Canadian Van Line

moving

moved from Ontario to British Columbia. Pickup/some packing was handled professionally and on time. Delivery was as scheduled and again was handled professionally. My stained glass transom window ended up with 2 extra cracks (already had 2) but I did not realize it until I unpacked it. I was successful in finding a qualified repair person in Parksville and looked after it.
