Ethan Allen Furniture

I ordered a chair from Ethan Allen on April 30th, 2018. the chair was to be delivered at the end of July. I t was to have a slip-cover from material purchased by them, but done by a sub-contracted upholsterer. The chair did not arrive until the end of September and the slip-cover did not fit. This happened again at the end of November, the slip-cover arrived and was in a horrible ill-fitting state. I finally got the chair this week. slip-cover fair. The communication and concern exhibited by the employees was appalling. On top of that there is no way to lodge a complaint anywhere but with the person you dealt with from the beginning. and she was so evasive and defensive! The worst consumer experience I have ever had.

Window coverings

The reason that I will no longer be a customer at this store has to do with an incompetent and inconsiderate installer that the store sent to me on three separate occasions, despite my making them aware of his inconsiderate and disrespectful behaviour. I have let the company know about this but they have to date not responded. What kind of customer service is this?!

Worst Furniture Experience Ever

This is the worst customer service experience I have had in 38 years of my life. We asked for a designer (Monica) to come out to our house to select bar stools, chairs and an ottoman. On delivery the kitchen chairs were incorrect. The reason we were replacing the bar stools were that we have a small child and we wanted to get rid of the fabric in our house. The leather that the designer picked marked easily and absorbed fingerprints and looked horrible by the end of one week. They sent out their Manger (Simone) that said the leather was in good standards and there was nothing they could do for me. I complained to corporate about the dealings not only from a product perspective but also customer service perspective. It took over three weeks for them to reply to me only to tell me that my information was incorrect and they also wouldn’t help correct the order. I am still waiting for them as it is now end of May and they were ordered in November. I asked for a refund given all this frustration, when they told me that there would be a 35 percent restocking fee... Spend your money else where as you won't get either quality or customer service.

Horrible Experience at the Calgary Dalhousie Location

We purchased a dining table and 5 leather chairs for our newly renovated kitchen area in November and were told it would take 8-10 weeks. It took 5 months to get our furniture and every piece was damaged. The leather that was supposed to be high end leather was scuffed and marked, the table was dusty and scuffed that we had to wipe it down with soap and water to actually see the surface. To say we were shocked would be an understatement. We should have just refused the delivery at that point, but never having had been in that situation didn't do so.
Even the delivery men pointed out all the damage and apologized indicating it wasn't their doing as they didn't want to be held responsible - the furniture had arrived to their warehouse like that.
Luckily there were lots of pictures taken and we got on the phone with VISA and spent lots of time chasing Ethan Allan - the rotten experience doesn't just end with the glorified sales reps who call themselves interior designers with a bad attitude. It goes up the chain to the general manager and every one in between. It seems it must be the company culture to treat the customer like dirt!!
We were told many times that it wasn't their problem that items were slightly damaged or scuffed, we paid for it and it's custom so it belonged to us!! Luckily they picked up all the damaged items to fix them, but putting on a bit of paint on a leather chair that's been scratched and scuffed - doesn't make it fixed - it just makes it look new. As for our dining table even their furniture repair technicians couldn't repair it as it was so horribly damaged ! So then why would they try and pawn it off on a customer??
We still didn't end up getting all of our money refunded but got the majority of it. We had order a table top protector for over $700 but they said that wasn't damaged so that we should keep! Even if we didn't keep the custom table??
That is just how Ethan Allen does business.

I wish I had seen all the poor experiences that people had had with Ethan Allen both in Canada and the USA, before even stepping foot in that store. How is it possible that a store that has such a consistent horrible customer experience stay in business?

I just saw an advertisement for their store down in the South part of Calgary as the Dalhousie location closed down. And I can't believe they are still in business, sucking in more customers?

Finally all I can say is if you are looking to buy furniture this is not the Ethan Allen of 20 plus years ago, they may have had a great reputation for the past , but that time is no more. They are truly what you would expect from a snack oil salesman. They promise you an amazing experience but in the end just want to charge you the most the can, and then once you are in, good luck if you even get a product you can use - let alone something close to the quality you'd expect for the price you paid.

GO SOMEWHERE ELSE, THIS COMANY IS NOT WORTH IT!!!!

Too long

Staff was courteous and somewhat helpful however, a little too eager to close the deal. If it wasn't for my design suggestions the experience would not have turned out well.
Delivery was promised in 6-10 weeks but took 5.5 months.

Terrible Experience with Ethan Allen Calgary Dalhousie Location - Would NOT Recommend

We spent just under $10,000 dollars at the Ethan Allen (EA) Calgary (Dalhousie location). The entire process was a terrible experience and I would not recommend EA to anyone.

To start, we had an "interior designer" come to the house to give some ideas. The interior designer was not helpful at all and it turns out that the two pieces we did order from her were much larger than we thought and completely overwhelm the room. The interior designer made some drawings that included even more stuff she thought would go well in the room including side and coffee tables. Had we ordered it all, like she was suggesting, it would not have physically been possible to make it fit in the room even if the couch was touching the coffee table.. Some interior designing… In our experience the Ethan Allen designers are basically just salesmen. All the sales are final long before you see your product. Since the pieces we did order we customized, EA does not do any kind of returns or exchanges.

When the Shelton sofa (~$4500) was delivered, the EA moving team damaged it so badly. There was a hand print in the leather and the wooden legs were terribly beaten up. Then when I called about the damage, EA tried telling us that it was "the look of the wood" until I told them that I had videotaped the delivery (which I did) and had proof of the delivery team beating up the sofa trying to shove it through the door.. Then I had to waste my time making tons of calls to try to get the legs repaired. Finally, a month later, they sent Furniture Medic to do some repairs on the legs. The guy with Furniture Medic was excellent and professional, but then again he doesn't work for EA.

I would highly discourage anyone from shopping at Ethan Allen (Calgary, Dalhousie). People work hard for their money and I would hate to see them waste it at EA! Their furniture is overpriced and the quality does not reflect how much you pay. Their customer service is nothing to brag about and their delivery team destroyed our couch. Go somewhere else, anywhere else. The whole experience with EA was a nightmare!

Living room

I would not recommend. The furniture took forever to arrive, and the wood on the case goods scratch VERY easy. The cushions on the sofas wrinkle after a short time. And while the service team and sales are very helpful, when I asked to speak to the manager, all he seemed to care about was himself and me keeping the product so he could make a dime. Not only that, he was rude and unprofssional. Unethical, very poor quality, will not shop there, and recommend the same.

Bedroom set

Unfortunately, I was very displeased with my entire experience with them. It took them since November to realize that there was a problem with a piece that I had ordered. Needless to say I cancelled the order. I would be very careful prior to buying anything from them. They were quoting me a date for August! How could it take 10 months to make a bedroom set!!! We ordered in Nov!!! Back to the drawing board.

Furniture

I purchased an iron coffee table from the Ethan Allen store in Thornhill. White spots began to appear all over the table including the legs and the support pieces, New white spots show up regularly.
Ethan Allen reluctantly sent a service person whose repair attempt consisted of wiping the table with a wet paper towel. He said that something appeared to be eating away at the table. Almost two weeks went by and I hadn't heard anything back from the Thornhill store. I followed up and was told that their head office refused to repair or replace the table. The table is only three years old. I thought that I was purchasing quality furniture from Ethan Allen but the only thing that says quality is their prices. Ethan Allen's customer service is non existent when you have a problem. Their furniture is not quality, heirloom furniture as the prices would suggest. It looks nice in the showroom, but does not last.

Bedside table purchase

Buyer beware. The company will not accept returns from online sales, citing that they have been "customized". The side tables we purchased were not the right size, we tried to exchange them but we told we could not. With this type of policy, it is clear that this is not a premium company.
