Absolutely amazing service!!!!!!!!

I had one of the best and easiest experiences when I purchased and installed my first new furnace, a/c and hot water tank. The sales rep Mr. O'Brien was not only professional but I felt like he really cared about providing me with quality products at a price that was completely reasonable. He assisted me with knowledge and advice that I was completely unaware of... Such as efficiency levels, pricing, different product options that best suited my budget. He made sure the items were installed quickly after ordering and followed up with any questions I had via email and phone; he had very responsive service which is hard to come by in this type of industry. I purchased my furnace, a/c and hot water tank last year and I can truly say they are quality products that I can see a big change in the way my furnace runs. The Applewood staff was not only friendly but extremely knowledgeable about installation, products, prices, and what best suited my home. I recommend them to every person I come across that needs anything pertaining to HVAC.

new home

We build a new home in Hamilton last winter (ending feb 2015). Applewood was the *worst* contractor we had.. have never had such poor service in my life. The yelled at me on the phone after I explained that I was unhappy with the installation work. As soon as I expressed dissatisfaction with the work (several different stages), the person I was speaking with would immediately go into questioning me about whether i was up-to-date on my deposits.. and I was ahead of payment. the tradesmen also cut an electrical wire in the wall when venting out the gas fireplace. the hydro was not hooked up yet, so they *stuck the cut wires back into the insulation* and left it.. my contractor confronted them and they denied it until he showed them by pulling the wires out of the wall. If not found, these would have turned into loose live wires! We also found the company to be overpriced. We only selected them due to time constraints and lack of availability from other companies. Avoid this mistake!

Air Conditioning Unit

We had a new house build, and Applewood did most of the heating work, I was not extremely satisfied, so I was quite hesitant to order A/C from Applewood after. Finally I decided to go with the devil I know.

Bob from sales was very helpful, and A/C was installed decently well - unfortunately it stopped working in 2 weeks. After long back-and-forth with customer support I managed to have someone to come over and take a look at the unit.

They identified that A/C was leaking coolant, and redid the connection and topped up the coolant. It was good for another few weeks, but yesterday I noticed It stopped working again.

The connection on A/C is oily with leaking coolant, so I assume the same problem happened again. I tried from the early morning to get in touch with live person in Applewood, and when I finally did, the gentleman said he will return my call once he looks up last service date, which he never did.

Turns out Applewood closes all their operations (except sales - I was able to talk to sales guy) at noon on Friday. Any emergency service is non-existent. We have a heat wave coming over the weekend, and best I manged to get from the sales guy (Bob Ross) was that someone will try to contact me Monday morning.

At this point I seriously regret going with Applewood.

Air Conditioning Repair

Perhaps they got few good repairs when it comes to new installations, but I would not recommend hiring this company for repair services. Very poor customer service and worse of all, very poor ethics, They will give you all kind of excuses to not take any responsability to redress their mistakes,

A techinician came by, apart from giving (incorrect!) diagnosis, subconsequently made me spend more money than I should have. When i called them to address this issue, they were not cooperative, did not provide a proper written diagnosis as requested, or helped effectively after this (non!) service. they refused to help redress the situation, .

No wonder they got very low reviews on google and are non-accreditted (C- rating with customer complaint files) on BBB.

New building

I purchased the new townhouse from Tribute with Applewood Air Conditioning installed in Feb. 2014. In July 2014, I reported the Applewood air conditioning didn't make cool well. But they told me didn't find problem. Then my family took vacation and no chance to use more of A/C because the weather was not hot enough. I turned on A/C this month and found valve leaking under the outside machine, and they temperature cannot go down even 1 degree. That recalled me the ink was seen last summer but I didn't know what it was. I called Applewood but was told out of warranty and need to pay $169+HST to do the 1st onsite diagnose. I am the first owner, the product quality is too bad to be trust, neither the service quality. They didn't try to fix it at the first time, only let me observe. The hot weather only started this month, how can I try A/C during winter??

new air conditioner

We had a new AC installed by Applewood Air Conditioning at the beginning of last summer (2014). After a month, it stopped working. They came and topped up the gas and after a few weeks it stopped working again. Called for service and when they came, they determined it was a leaking valve. This didn't sound good to me for a newly installed AC. Needed to get part, which meant another service call. When part was available, they were too busy. In total, we had 4 service calls over 3 months (i.e. over the summer) - the AC has only been functional for half the time.

By September, the AC was still not working properly and we were told we'd have to wait until the spring as they were now getting busy with the heating season. It is now spring and we still do not have a working AC, so we contacted Applewood to get the replacement valve installed, which they did but said they'd have to come back to top up gas because it was too cold outside. When a technician came, he topped it up but then we still experienced problems. Apparently, his gauges were off and he over-pressurized the system. Another service call and they adjusted the pressure. However, once again the AC stopped working. They came and replaced the coil and again it stopped working. At that point we determined Applewood Air were unable to fix the issue with the AC, which they installed, and went with another vendor.

The other vendor immediately identified and fixed the problem that Applewood Air couldn't. We've now gone a whole cooling season with no issues since the other vendor fixed it. I've also submitted a complaint with BBB so that other potential clients are aware of the headaches they may experience with Applewood Air.

In conclusion, go elsewhere for your HVAC.

What could this company do to improve their services?
After sales service needs improvement. It should not be up to the homeowner to have to constantly follow-up to get issues taken care of.

Furnace replacement

During this long and cold winter my furnace decided to die after Applewood installed it nearly 28 years ago. At first I didn't know what to do so I decided to call around and found out my heat exchanger was leaking. I called several companies, had them come in for an in house evaluation and I found Applewood Air Conditioning to be the most honest heating contractor along with the most experienced. I'm glad I decided to go forward with their team... Extremely professional service since Brendan arrived and explained my options for furnace types that best fit my house / needs along with the complete installation. The installation crew, Mike and John showed up the following day seeing as I had no heat, the installation went great from start to finish even including follow up to ensure everything went well. I'd strongly recommend Applewood Air Conditioning, Brendan and the installation crew Mike and John. Beyond satisfied with the service!

emergency furnace service call

My furnace stopped working at roughly 6pm yesterday... I read the furnace instructions to make sure it wasn't something I could fix. It wasnt... I place a call to Applewood for emergency furnace repairs as they were the company that installed my furnace... Took down my information at 7pm and told me a technician would call shortly... 830 rolled around no call, called them back same thing wait for technician to call... 930pm call again had to give all my info again and gave two phone numbers to call... 1030 called again they assured me that someone call... No call throughout whole night. I have a new born at home I explain and they said all they can do is page the technician again... I was lucky that I had a electric heater for the baby's room... called Applewood as soon as they opened at 830am... got put on hold, then hung up on... called back sad they were two busy and I wasn't under warranty so I'd be lucky to get someone by tuesday... asked to speak with owner/manager as they advertise as a 'family owned and operated company', nobody was available. Left both phone numbers asking them to call back still haven't heard from them... I think they are only interested in warranty jobs. Worst customer experience. Lady I talked to this morning very rude and basically told me we don't care about your situation find someone else. My advice don't go near this company. Would love to ask the owner if he was in my shoes what he would do.

Company Response

Hi James,

We are sorry to hear that your experience with our company was not a pleasant one. We do pride ourselves on customer service, however, in the dead of winter with over 25 no heat calls per night we are forced to prioritize our customers who are under warranty and those with an Applewood maintenance agreement over people who are not.

We certainly do sympathize with your situation, but we are under contract with our warranty clients and our maintenance plan clients so our hands can often be tied should too many calls come in. If you would like to discuss your issue further please feel free to contact Matthew O'Brien at extension 247.
