A-Budget Heating & Air Conditioning

Installed two window air conditioners in May. There is a strong draft around the air conditioners now that it is cold and windy outside. When called to come fix the installation demanded a further $150. When told they need to fix their own mistake, said that they should have been notified in 30 days or less, very difficult to notice any drafts in May/June. After repeated demands to fix their own mistake, the manager hung up on me.

Charged for pickup, promised estimate but never provided. Said removed and replaced capacitor and cleaned. Two months later, same problem occurred, wanted pickup charge again. Different company hired to fix said capacitor was never replaced and if it had been, would have been on warranty.

A Budget installed my air conditioner about 13 years ago. I thought they did a fine job and I thought the installers were great. I had A-Budget in twice more to do 2 minor repairs done on the unit - 9 years and 13 years after installation. The service technicians were very good both times. I've never submitted a review to HomeStars before, but my experience has been quite positive and so different from other reviews I've read, that I signed up to submit this review. I've found the company reps honest, capable, on-time and price competitive.

A -Budget installed this furnace right before I bought my house. It broke down 7 times the first winter because the condensation was running into, not away from, the furnace. On the 7th service call, they finally got it working. However, they used various pieces of hose, taped together, and also taped other parts. The tape only lasted so long, resulting in a flood and ruined items in my basement. Everyone who has seen the work has commented that it's poorly done. The furnace lasted only 11 years and I just had a new one installed by a different company. I would never recommend A-Budget.

I called A-Budget because two radiators in my rental property were not working. The company sent over two repair people who looked at the rads and told me that the rads would need to be replaced because of build-up. (They later quoted me over $5000 for the new radiator replacements). While they were there they temporarily repaired the turn-off valve for one radiator. They charged me $250 for this job. Within a few hours the valve began to leak. I called back and told them that there was a problem. They refused to come back and blamed me saying I had touched the valve. I got into an argument with the supervisor who finally agreed to send some one over.
Later I called another company to give me a second opinion. The second company said that the radiators were fine and did not need replacing. The second company did some basic plumbing work to repair the problem and the rads now work perfectly.
I felt that A-Budget did not know what they were doing and they gave me an estimate that was highly incorrect and I paid them $250 for nothing. I am so fortunate that I got a second opinion.

Monty came to give us an estimate. He was very thorough. We were able to get our new furnace and air conditioner very quickly which was good as we had no heat at the time. The installer was supposed to come on Friday but called Thursday to see if it was ok to start. He started the job Thursday and came back first thing Friday morning to finish. He stayed all day until the job was finished. The only thing I wasn't happy with was that he didn't clean up very well afterwards. We had to clean up outside where he drilled through the wall and inside there were pieces of concrete and dust in my laundry tubs and on the floor. We are happy with the furnace so far and nice and warm.

Great company to work with, Friendly helpfull staff. They came and looked at the job and gave me an estimate with a couple of options showing different prices. They helped with financing, explained everything they were doing clearly and stuck to the price quoted.
I am satisfied with work done.

The company is ok to deal with I guess but the people they sent to do the work were horrible. They were rude and abrasive. They took short-cuts (ie. not wanting to insulate pipes until we insisted). They didn't show up the second day without calling and we waited all day for them. They also had unsafe practices such as not wearing a harness even when we asked them to. Given the high price, I expected better.

This company sent two workpeople who were not all there. One showed up late and just wanted to put in their hours and get out. Rough around the edges. I would not recommend this company. Lots of issues. We put up with the nonsense because we wanted the work done as heat is important!

I was in a bind and needed a company to come out right away and for a reasonable fee - A Budget was there when I needed them. Would recommend to anyone in the GTA.
