Mark in Edmonton

We needed to do some renovations on the main floor of our house: new kitchen, replace carpet and linoleum with hardwood, and update a bathroom. We looked for a contractor via a general web search and then checked reviews. We had three people come give us an estimate. Although all of the estimates were somewhat similar, we went with Artiste because we found the owner (Barry) the easiest and most trustworthy to deal with. The others wouldn’t give us a clear quote, weren’t clear as to who would be doing some of the actual work (i.e. sub-contractors, etc.). As well, when checking the references we came across a person who we knew and vouched for Barry’s work. The project was finished on time and on budget. We are extremely pleased with the work that Barry and his team did. It appears to be of the highest quality in all aspects. The new cupboards, countertop and flooring in particular were perfectly installed. Although we did most of the design work ourselves, Barry and his colleagues provide helpful suggestions when asked. Barry was always quick to respond to our emails and he provided updates on the project on a regular basis and when asked. We are pleased to highly recommend Artiste Renovations. We will use them again for any future projects.

We used Nomad earlier this year to replace our roof. We received quotes from three companies and Nomad's was similar to the other lowest quote (also from a highly rated company). We went with Nomad because the salesperson/estimator took the time to explain the quote and various options available to us. He did not try to sell us anything extra and gave us time to do our own research. The other company simply left their quote in our mailbox with no follow-up at all. We are extremely pleased with the work that was done. It was completed on schedule and everything was cleaned up well. A careful follow-up inspection was done by one of their staff. A couple of follow-up issues were immediately dealt with by Nomad to our full satisfaction. Neither were major concerns and we were impressed with their level of customer support. The new roof looks great!

We used Hometech to install our new front door and we couldn't be happier with it. It looks great and they did an excellent job in the installation. Everything seems to be of the highest quality. We will use Hometech again.

You never know what you are going to get when you contact a company from the internet. However, all aspects of David's service was great. He was on time, his cost was reasonable and he was careful when he moved our large coach and bookshelf from the basement. We will use Junkzilla again.

We used LeChuza Carpentry to replace our deck. Andres and Maria (office) were great to deal with from coming to do the estimate to getting the work done on schedule. We were particularly impressed that Andres works by himself to ensure that the final product is of the highest quality. He didn't rush the work and we are very pleased with the final product. We have lived with the deck for a few months now and are very happy that we used LeChuza for this work.

We required a plumber on an urgent basis one evening and called Capital Mechanical & Heating. I called a couple of plumbers and they were the first to call back. The work was very well done and he even cleaned up a bit of water spillage. He explained what he did and why which was very helpful. Epcor was also involved in this repair and he worked directly with them to get the job done. I will definately use Capital Mechanical again for any future plumbing issues.

We used Wild Rose Fencing to build a cedar privacy fence in our backyard. Three gates were required as well. To say we were pleased with the work would be an understatement. The work was perfectly done and it was very clear that Scott and his crew are very experienced and take great pride in their work. The fence is absolutely beautiful and has become an important architectural feature of our house. They took care of removing the old fence in addition to building the new one. The job was completed within 3 days and our property was left in prefect condition. Quite a bit of the fence is next to our perennial gardens and they were even able to work around the plants without damaging them! I would recommend Wild Rose Fencing without reservation. There are cheaper fence contractors out there but you definately get what you pay for.

We have a gas fireplace that wasn't working properly (it would shut off on its own). As well, I felt that it needed a general service. I called Fireplace Gallery and have to admit that I wasn't overly impressed with the service. It took three visits before the problem was fixed properly. I won't name who came the first two times but I don't think he knew his stuff that well. As well, he only did a cursory cleaning job. The fireplace still didn't work right after he came twice and Fireplace Gallery had already charged me the full service charge (without my knowledge or permission). It bothered me that they did this. I eventually spoke to someone in the service department who was better and he sent someone who seemed much more knowledgeable. This second service technician diagnosed the problem quite quickly and was able to fix it. He also did a more thorough cleaning job. Thus, this is a bit of a mixed review. I would try Fireplace Gallery again, but only if I got the second service technician.

We needed to replace some of windows in our home. Some were getting old (the bay windows) while others simply don't provide enough insulating value. We received an estimate from one of the "big" window companies in Edmonton but was disappointed at the level of information and general attention provided by the salesperson. If someone isn't going to make an effort at a sale, how much can you count on the company doing anything if something goes wrong with the windows? We went with Ecoline because of their very professional attitude from our first contact with them. Their cost was similar to the estimate provided by the "big" window company but I believe that Ecoline has a superior product. We were very pleased with the installation and how the windows look. The installation crew worked hard and were very respectful of our home. The job took a bit longer than the original estimate but that's because their work was delayed by high winds. We have some additional windows to replace next year and we certainly will be using Ecoline again. It was a pleasure doing business with them!

We had a new bay window installed by Pella about 4 years ago. It has worked great - no problems with hardware, frosting, etc. The installation was outstanding and was carefully done. Only issue was the use of the aluminum spacer rather than a material that doesn't conduct heat/cold as much.
