After looking at several companies, Red Robin has by far been the most responsive and accommodating to my questions and needs regarding work on the front of my house. I have been working with them for over 3 months trying to choose stone options for the front of my 100 Year old house in roncesvalles village. John came out right away and priced out the work we wanted on the house. He gave me a quote within a couple of days, which was very competitive with the other offers we had. We have decided to work with Red Robin and have ordered a Stone Selex natural stone veneer product to install over top of the brick pillars on the front of the house (not the same as original brick) as well as along the foundation of the house (currently cinder blocks). We are still awaiting installation when the product arrives, but are happy with the service from Red Robin thus far, and look forward to the finished product. See before photos, stay tuned for after!

We live in a 100 year old house in Roncesvalles village and had some major gaps in the pointing on the front of the house. Our energy auditor recommended we get the brick re-pointed. It was also very dirty and we needed to have it cleaned. After getting several quotes from various companies, a lot of them were hesitant to do chemical cleaning, saying they really see varying results. A Victorian house down the street had recently been completely restored, cleaned and pointed, and looked wonderful. I ended up asking the owner who they used for the service and they said Pacific Restoration. I called Nick and he quickly sent his father, Jim over to give us a quote. He was very clear, helpful and upfront about the cleaning and possible outcomes on the phone. Jim was over the next morning and gave a very reasonable quote for all the work. It included the front of the house on both first and second levels. Jim showed up with his partner on time on both days. The first day was the cleaning and sandblasting, he let it dry and came back on day two for the pointing. They did a great job, the brick came out wonderfully and the pointing looks great too. We are noticing less drafts inside due to the fresh mortar and are very pleased. The only room for improvement was that Jim and partner were a bit sloppy with the leftover sandblasting. There was a huge pile of sand left in the garden, and some mortar that was dripped all over the flashing on the roof over the porch. All-in-all, not a huge deal. Would definitely recommend Pacific Restoration to anyone wanting brick cleaned and re-pointed. I would have them back again to do the back of the house when we re-do the kitchen! Thanks Nick and Jim!

Richard was great right from the start. I had contacted some other contractors for comparison who went on about how busy they were, and didn't have time to come to Toronto. Richard was out the day after I contacted him with a quick quote following a couple days later. We actually delayed the work about a year, due to other priorities that came up, but we re-booked with no issue. Richard came out with a colleague, Paul. They were in at 7AM and out at 2pm with the whole crown DONE! i could not believe how fast they went. There were no issues whatsoever with the installation. Day 2 they came back and did the closet and window frames as well as the baseboard. Again, they were gone in a matter of hours! I couldn't believe the change! We had a couple challenging areas that Richard worked around with ease (see attached photos). He also came back about a week later to install some shoe molding and cut a spot around a new floor vent. Great work, and I will have them back again to do the kitchen, and upstairs when it comes time for that! Thanks Richard & Paul! ~meghan

Lindon at Air Flex was recommended to us by another contractor we had for our old oil tank removal. My husband had noticed a minor leak, which indicated it was time to change! We already had a gas line coming into the house, so we deiced to change furnaces to gas, and Lindon was great. This all happened around Thanksgiving weekend in 2011, it was cold already, and we had to have the oil tank removed. AirFlex was able to come out quickly to install the furnace, were in and out in a matter of hours, and replaced some old and too small duct work that had been done by the previous owners for free! They were quick, clean and very professional. I would recommend them again to anyone. In addition, we had had an energy audit done previously, as we had done some renovations. Since we also got the furnace upgraded to high efficiency, we got around $2000 back from the ontario energy board as well as the government, so it was great! Thank you AirFlex! Our heating bills for oil were around $600 every two months, and now with the gas, we are down to around $150 every month in peak winter, with the gas stove and hot water heater too! what a lifesaver!

We were hearing some scratching and scampering in the ceiling of our home - with a flat roof. We looked on Homestars and found GTA. I called Kevin and he came out in a couple of days. He arrived on time and thoroughly inspected the house - he did find some evidence of rodents with droppings. With no access to an attic he managed to get some rodenticide up into the ceiling through some ceiling light fixture holes in two rooms as well as in between the main and upper floors by pulling open some ventilation duct walls - very crafty! Kevin was very knowledgeable and efficient. He placed other bait traps in different areas of the home that are usually high traffic areas for rodents, just in case. We heard the increased activity he mentioned we would hear for about two weeks (so gross) and then heard a couple final thuds in the ceiling - and haven't heard anything since! Its been about a month. Hopefully we won't have to see Kevin ever again!! (Sorry Kevin!! haha) My only issue was that he left a bit of a mess moving around from room to room. (pieces of rodenticide on the floors of rooms he was in and cupboards disheveled after putting bait traps down. Other than that - which is incredibly minor - I would have Kevin back again in a heartbeat. Thanks Kevin! ~meghan

Thanks for the review Meghan: I am always learning in an attempt to become better within my occupation. Your review is a good learning example for me and a very accurate account of what true rodent extermination often consists of. Many thanks. Kevin.

My husband and I bought an old home in June 2010 - previously occupied by smokers. We had a baby in August 2010 and after being cooped up all winter, I began to feel as though there was something in the air of the house and started to develop a cough. With the small baby I was concerned so started looking up duct cleaning - presuming it had never been done before (100 year old home...) I saw Pauls great reviews on homestars so called him to see when he would be available. He gave me his soonest booking which was about a week later. I called him to ask some questions a few days later and he readily answered all my questions and concerns! Paul arrived right on time at 9AM, he mentioned it would take 3 or 4 hours. I had my husband work at home and took off with the baby. Paul had drop-cloths throughout the house wherever he was working and took his shoes off every time he came in! He taped everything up walked my husband through the whole process and 4 hours later I walked in to a breath of fresh air!! He mentioned to my husband that it looked like the ducts had maybe been cleaned before, but not properly, so in his mind, it had never really been done...SO GROSS!! My husband said the ducts looked like they were lined with fuzzy carpet wen Paul had him look. The natural disinfectant he used was circulating throughout the ducts (still drying) and it smelled like a combination of Christmas, cinnamon hearts and beachy sunscreen! It was amazing. The ducts dried out and the scent was gone in a couple of hours. Paul called later in the day to make sure I was happy with everything. I wish we had done the cleaning as soon as we moved in and will be sure to check the next home we purchase immediately!! I would recommend Paul in a heartbeat - he was really great! Thanks Paul - see you in about 3 years :D ~meghan

Hi Meghan, WOW, that was a great review you did for me.. Pretty much nailed it from start to finish... Most importantly, I am glad that you and your family were more than satisfied with my work. I look forward to keeping your system maintained on a yearly basis, and again tackling your air ducts in a few years... Enjoy your new (old) home and again congrats on your baby... All the best.

We had just purchased a new home in June 2010 - a new roof was required immediately - we knew prior to purchase. Had Roofworks out to do a quote along with three other companies from around the GTA. All other companies were trying to sell additional things that were not necessary. Roofworks Joe & Jason were very skilled, straightforward and relaxed about the whole quote. They offered upgrade options and explained why we would or wouldn't go with each one - very straightforward. We ended up going with them! Since we had three different projects going on we had three different Roofworks teams out to our place - flat roof, cedar dormer and sloped roof/eaves teams! They were all incredible. very friendly guys - worked hard all day for like a whole week! Jason came around every day to check things out and make sure we were happy (it helped that we live on the same street as the office). We were doing some other home renovations at the time and they guys even carted away some of our house demolition waste free in the piles of roofing materials they were hauling off. Payment was a breeze with Adam in the office - they offered advice about doing the final project we have which is new siding on the side and back of our semi-detached house. We will definitely go with them again. My only negative thing is that since having our work done, i have seen some fancier more decorative soffit/fascia work around the neighbourhood with lighting etc. as well as some innovative eaves/draining designs. I didn't even know that things like that were an option as a new homeowner. So perhaps having some more decorative/architectural options offered during the quoting phase would have been great. But other than that everything was great! They were also the most reasonably priced of all three companies we looked at.

Needed to have Electricians report due to insurance company for a few things after new house purchase. B&R was recommended to us by my parents condo. Barry came out almost immediately - we needed the report around thanksgiving - he was here with some guys the thursday before thanksgiving. Three guys were here all day putting in all new receptacles and switches - we also needed some updates at the electrical panel - dedicated lines etc. and the removal of one knob and tube wire. The quote for all the work was about 1200, but when they guys got here they ran into a few more issues that they recommended be fixed for safety issues - it ended up being about 500$ more - that was a bit disappointing - but the work was done well and they were very honest and straightforward about what should be done and why and i liked that! They gave me the option to go ahead with the extra fixes or not before actually charging. Would defo recommend to a friend! Have booked again already for another upgrade.

We were looking for some shades. Found Shutter King on the queensway and booked a time to pop into the showroom. Dee was very accommodating - i have a 5 month old! We popped in and took a look at samples - decided what we liked and Peter came out to our place 3 days later to measure. He said the shades would be in, in about 3 weeks. He called me at about 2.5 weeks to say they were ready and wanted to come install the following week. They arrived on time - snapped the shades in in like 20 minutes and were out the door! Very reasonable - great selection - very helpful - prompt - all made in Canada! (Sun Project Shades) **Follow-up: I gave this company a 10/10 when they did the installation in February 2011. However, about 5 months after the black out shade was installed in my daughters room, it began to get caught in the cassette and actually frayed a bit on one side. I called Shutter King in before the July 1st long weekend (2011) to have them come and look at it, or adjust it etc. and I never heard back from them. I left a message initially. I called back about 4 weeks later and got Dee on the phone. She apologized for not getting back to me saying they were out of the country. She assured me that she would have Peter call me back to arrange a time to come out to the house. Two more weeks went by and I hadn't heard back. I called again and got Dee, she said she was busy and to call back and leave a message with my information and she would make sure Peter called me. I did as she asked - having left my information 3 times now. I also told her that if i didnt hear back in a couple days I would call again. I didnt hear back, so i called again and got Peter. He said he could come out on a Friday (this is now into September), so i agreed. I was home all morning and afternoon on the day we arranged, and Peter did not show up, or call me at all. I was angry and called at the end of the day to see what happened, he informed me that he had forgotten. I said look, what is the problem here, I called months ago, with a minor issue and have been stood up. He said it was just scheduling, despite the fact that I was available at any time he indicated. He assured me he would be out first thing monday morning and i said ok. Monday rolled around and he stood me up again. I waited all morning. At this point I was furious and called the manufacturer to see what could be done. I spoke with SunProject directly and they informed me that the shade would be fixed or replaced free of charge as its within 2 years of purchase. They did inform me that Shutter King would have to do the work. Christine at SunProject called Shutter king and told them they HAD to come out to fix my issue and she informed me that if I did not hear back from them or have my shade fixed in a day or two to call her back. Only after I went to the manufacturer to get advice did Peter and his assistant come out to my home. I got a very rude message from Dee informing me that they would be at my house at a certain time - not asking if I was available then, just telling me. They arrived and Peter was unfriendly and looked put out by the whole thing. They ended up fixing the shade - adjusting the alignment and cutting off the bottom 10 inches or so and refastening the weight bar at the bottom - it took about 30 minutes. When they were leaving Peter just walked out the door, did not apologize for the wait or inconvenience or for standing me up twice with no explanation. Luckily I am at home with a baby and am available pretty well anytime, I can't imagine what it would have been like if I needed to arrange to work from home. After the follow-up experience with this company I will NEVER use them again for the many window coverings that my house still needs, nor will I recommend them to any friends, several of whom have just purchased homes. Nor will I use them for any future house I purchase. Absolutely terrible customer service for something that could have been solved in 30 minutes a week after I called. I don't know how they keep any clients, or have repeat business.
