While I was away in Germany, my septic pump failed and my wife called in one of the "rooter" companies that we used previously. They advised her that the septic bed was probably clogged and that they determined it by cutting the pump pipe and watching water flow back from the septic bed. She called me and I said that I'm not spending $10,000 to fix the bed when the most likely thing was the pump. I called one of the other septic pumping companies on homestars and he recommended Jamie at Whitevale Plumbing. Jamie came out right away, looked at the situation and said "your pump needs replacing because it's not working". A few hours later, he installed a new (and more powerful pump) and everything went back to normal. Recently, I had an issue with my well pump and I called Jamie out of last resort. Not only did he call me back within minutes (late on a friday evening) but connected me with the person who does well and pump work for his projects. If it wasn't for his help, I would be waiting the entire weekend without water. It's rare that you meet people like Jamie who are honest and go beyond the call of duty every time you talk with them. If you like in the Markham/Stoufville area, I would highly recommend him to handle any plumbing issues.

Late friday evening, I noticed that we were out of water - I checked our well pump and methane tank and it was empty. My plumber referred me to Derek and I left him a message on his VM. I called several other well companies beforehand but no one replied. Within 5 minutes of leaving a message for Derek, he called me back and although he didn't service the type of pump that I had, he said he would come out first thing on Saturday morning. He showed up as promised and looked at the pumping equipment in my house, and within 20 minutes he isolated the issue and water started to flow again. Within an hour, our 200 gal storage tank was filled and we had water once again. Additionally, he increased the water pressure in the house. I would highly recommend them to service well and pump systems and we will use them again.

Had Rob from Precision Windows Cleaning come out to clean the Windows and Gutters at the house we're selling and the new one that we bought. Did a great job cleaning the windows without disrupting anything inside or outside the house. Our gutters at the new house were completely clogged after not being maintained for several years, but Rob stuck it out and got things cleaned up nicely. Price is a little higher than others that we've used in the past but I would rather a clean job done without anything being damaged (which is why we switched to Precision). Would definitely use hem again.

$1,200.00
What could this company do to improve their services?
Get a drain snake to clean out super clogged downspouts like ours
Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
Be careful using student services - they do a good job but your eaves can get damaged - Professionals do a better job in my opinion.

Just before moving into our new place, one of our furnaces stopped working and displaying an error code indicating an ignition issue. Called Reliable because of their rating and they picked up the call in the evening and dispatched techs the next morning. Rob and Rob showed up and examined the furnace and determined that flame sensor was not functioning. They didn't have the correct one with them at the time (apparently they had the wrong version) so they cleaned the existing sensor and got the system to work. They did not charge me for the visit since they did not have the correct part and would just charge the initial visit cost plus cost of the flame sensor when they had the correct one. Yesterday Jamie (who was covering from the older Rob who fell ill) and Rob came to replace the flame sensor and also fixed a few other minor issues with the furnace. So far everything seems to be working well. I found them to be both professional and honest and would recommend them.

Only spend several hundred fixing an old furnace, otherwise it's probably worth getting a new one.

During the inspection of a home we just purchased, we found mold in a few areas of the basement that were not addressed by the former owner. After reading many reviews and calling a few companies, we decided to go with GreenStream. From the quote to completion of the job, these guys were a class act - responsible and professional in every step of the way. GreenStream is not the cheapest company for mold removal but if you need it done right, then they're the people you need.

$10,000.00
What could this company do to improve their services?
Do restoration work after mold has been removed.

Testing is important before and after the cleanup to ensure the issue has been taken care of.

Contacted these guys through samedayplumbing.ca to fix two broken waste disposal units (garburator) - follow up over the phone was professional but quote when the tech came to the house was crazy. Told me that we need to replace both (which is what I expected) but wanted to charge more than $2000 (units cost $500 combined at home depot - rest is labour). When I asked how long it would take, he said an hour - which means for travel and 1 hour of time was $1500. I don't mind paying a premium but when someone is taking advantage of you, based on the size of your house, trusting personality or other reason then I have a problem. When I commented about the price the response was "that's the price of being in business" which is a good reason why you should not do business with companies like this. Response to Company: We were quoted $750 and $1250 which is $2000 + HST. The units are the same that are sold by HomeDepot - they carry the full line of residential units - we purchased the same units you quoted with install from home depot for $1000 Including HST. Home depot contractors are insured and licensed to install the units. This is just a case where competition is forcing you to have prices that the market expects - we know how much the units cost and we know what the labour cost.

$60.00

Don't make up comments about why you're better than others when you're out of the ballpark.

Company Response

Hi Richard, We quoted you $750 to replace a garbage disposal. That is $1500 for two. The cost of the disposals that we quoted to you are $980, not $500. We quoted you for 1 HorsePower units, they sold you 1/3 horsepower units. The difference in quality is huge. You should compare apples with apples before you comment on our company. In addition to this, you had to drive to the store, wait in line to pay and to arrange installation. Then you have to wait 1 week minimum for a Home Depot Installation. If there is ever a problem, you will wait a week for service. We do not take advantage of people. We are an honest and ethical company. Thank you - The Priority Team.

After my offer was accepted for a property that I'm purchasing, my home inspector noticed some mold in one of the corners of the basement. After calling several Mold removal firms, Paul from Assurance was recommended as the guy to give me the straight facts on what I was dealing with. Paul not only has the certification but understands the science behind the analysis, which made me feel confortable that I had the right person. Paul arrived on time and got right down to business. Based on his recommendation and analysis, the clean up contractor knew exactly what needed to get done. His gut feeling on the type of mold was spot on and the report was in our hands in the timeline that he set out. I will be using Paul again once the mold has been cleaned up to verify that the house is safe for my family. I recommend Assurance Environmental to anyone purchasing a house or has a mold issue. Update: Used Paul again and he got the results in tan accurate and timely manner.

I have purchased many homes and used inspectors for each. This time I decided to use an independent inspector that would give me a thorough and detailed idea of any issues that I would have. Steve was recommended to me through several sources and he was punctual and very detailed. He found several issues with the property which resulted in over $100,000 of discounts off the deal. I would definitely use Steve again without question and would recommended him over any of the bigger names.

Don't let your contractor install a floor - let the professionals handle it.
