We hired Steve to prepare plans for our kitchen reno and for a new mud room we're putting on the house.  Steve listened carefully to what we were looking for and was extremely efficient in providing a first proposed draft. He then worked with us on some adjustments to hone our vision for the final permit documents.  Since we are essentially doing two separate projects and because one (the mud room) may require Committee of Adjustment approval, Steve went the extra mile by speaking to the City in advance of us making our applications to ensure they were structured in the most efficient way possible to avoid approval delays. The level of commitment Steve brings has made him a critical part of our project team. We've just received our kitchen permit and are about to get started.  Steve is extremely professional, collaborative, accommodating of our busy schedules and clearly takes pride in his work. We highly recommend him and Lindy Consulting.

I called Elite Appliance to repair our refrigerator in June, which they did for $200, however the problem has already returned. When I called and requested that they come out to have a look, I was told that I would have to pay for a new call and new set of repairs. They said they only have a 30 day warranty on labour, but after that I'm on my own. Now I'm out $200 and still have to repair the fridge. Their response shows they take little if any accountability for the repairs that they perform and charge for. I've worked with a number of other contractors and trades people in the past, and the best companies will take responsibilty for their work and won't charge you again when it is clear that their original work did not suffice. I can appreciate that a warranty must expire at some point, but the standard practice is about one year, not a mere 30 days. Since they barely warrant their work in the first place, there's little incentive in me hiring them to return. I'm better off finding a more reputable company and using them.

We had a leak in our roof last year and chose J. Stewart Roofing after researching a number of companies and deciding that this was the best. We weren't disappointed. John came out, took photos of our roof and patiently explained what the problem was and how he would fix it. The repair job was great, the price fair, and the problem solved. This week, after the day and a half rain storm, we noticed another leak. (Entirely separate from what was repaired last year.) I called John and he came out had the repair completed in less than 24 hours. When it finally comes time to replace our roof, we will definitely be going with J. Stewart Roofing. Thanks for your help!

Any advice to offer fellow homeowners facing a similar project?
Do your research, ask questions and try to understand the work that's being done. If you need to compare two companies, understanding the problem will help you to assess which can best help you.

We hired Mr. Rooter for some non-traditional plumbing work, but were extremely impressed nonetheless. Our new kitten managed to find a cubbyhole behind our bathtub, followed it down along the bathroom pipes and ended up under our subfloor. She wasn't able to get out and for three days we weren't even certain she was in there. Travis from Mr. Rooter came to our house and with the snake-camera (that is used in drains), he was able to locate her for us. Once we knew where she was, we cut a hole in the ceiling and got her out. We're very grateful - without Travis' help, our little cat probably wouldn't have managed to survive much longer. It was a very unusual request, but Travis got right into it and was committed to helping us find her. Given his commitment, professionalism, and fantastic attitude, I would absolutely hire him (and Mr. Rooter) to perform any traditional plumbing job we require in the future.
