We didn’t start our staircase renovation with R&K, but we are so happy to have found them. Very professional, tried to find cost savings using the items we had purchased from initial contractor. Completed job on time and on budget, and Chris who installed the railing did an absolutely outstanding job. His work is painstaking and impeccable! The quote process is slow and waiting for an appointment was long, but understandable since they are specialists and in high demand.

In May 2021 we hired this company to install a small section of hardwood floor, refinish the existing main level hardwood throughout, veneer two small staircases and replace the handrails at the main entrance. Their workmanship was not satisfactory and they left a very large dark area in the main living room floor. We asked them to stop working on the stairs, try to fix the dark patch and complete the clear coating throughout. During the price renegotiation for the balance of work Mr. Wood got upset and stormed out before we could agree on an amount. I would not recommend this company to anyone, they were very unprofessional, do not do quality work and are inconsiderate of the customer.

I met Mike in the OWL LED Lights Inc. booth at the CNE the end of August 2015. We discussed a project for my home and after I emailed him the measurements and some photos of my front door he quickly sent back a mock up of the address letters I wanted to install. Looked great, price was good, everything seemed above board and then then he sent me a PayPal invoice. I sent payment for Order EX5002 on September 22, 2015 and have yet to receive my item or a refund. Last time I heard from Mike via email was October 21, 2015. Since then I have been to the OWL LED Lights Inc. booth at Pickering Markets and spoke with another sales person. He said Mike had been off and he did recall seeing my item at the warehouse, he agreed to check on it and let me know. I haven’t heard back from him. I have also sent emails to the info@owlledlights.com and sales@owlledlights.com and have not received a response. I can’t find a phone number listed for them anywhere and am considering taking legal action for to get my money back.

Metalex fabricated some custom hinged (to open in case of fire) basement window bars for us 16 years ago and the project was an absolute nightmare. I have no idea if the person we dealt with was a sales associate or an owner but the design was flawed and he absolutely refused to recognize such until it was physically proven to him. The bars were improperly assembled so the hinge would not allow the proper swing direction and the colour was wrong. He adjusted the price to address these concerns but only after some heated discussion and sent us away with the items while the paint was still tacky.

I have no Idea who this customer is! We cant defend ourselves in a situation that happened 16 years in the past, Our only comment is, in any dispute, we will continue to work with the customer, within reason to insure 100% satisfaction.

Our chimney had shifted, cracked and separated in places a few years ago when we had some below ground waterproofing done on our home. The waterproofing company attempted to seal the problem areas on a couple of occasions but just made an absolute mess of our chimney. Shane came out and gave us a couple of options 1. Complete rebuild (approx. cost $5000) 2. Remove the bricks in the areas that were problematic, grind out between the brick, realign and mortar (approx. cost $350). Shane advised us that there is still a chance of shifting due to the original chimney design but recommended option 2 so we agreed to try that. He realigned approximately 10 rows and confirmed with us that he could add two thin rows of brick to balance, support and avoid areas where the mortar would be too thick. The brick colour was not identical but very close and it looks great. He also cut and repaired other areas of the chimney where bricks had cracks, cleaned up the mortar/cement the waterproofing company had slathered all over the place and said he'd like to come back in the spring to check for signs of shifting. The only extra cost above his original quote was $20 for the thin brick he added. We were very happy with his honesty and skill.

Hello Dawn, Thank you very much for the write up. I received a review yesterday as well and these make my day. I will be by in the Spring to see the chimney - provided I am not slammed by people wanting work from me due to all the nice things people say on HomeStars. Thank you, Shane
