We live in an older house in mid-town Toronto, with a wide mutual driveway. After a shoddy paving job by another company that resulted in rainwater being directed towards our homes foundation, we hired Ontario Paving in October 2021. Ontario Paving removed all the asphalt (which had been installed by the other company earlier that summer) and replaced it. They did a great job. The salesman/ manager (Luca) was professional. Most importantly, the workers took their time, used smaller rollers and hand-finished the slope to ensure proper grading for the mutual driveway. They even showed us how to test the asphalt grade once they were finished by directing water from a hose down the driveway and the water flowed perfectly down the middle of the driveway, as it was supposed to! We would highly recommend using Ontario Paving. Note: I tried to email a copy of my contract with Ontario Paving to you, this would not upload when I clicked "choose files" below - likely b/c it is a PDF not a photo. Email me if you want a copy.

The measure of a good company is how they respond to clients when things dont go as planned under the written contract. West York Paving failed in this measure. We hired West York Paving to replace the asphalt on our wide mutual driveway in mid-town Toronto. The contract included a specific written guarantee that the grading would slope water away from our house. The work was completed in early August 2021 and after the first heavy rainfall a few weeks later, we noticed that the water was collecting and running off towards our house. This also happened during a second rainstorm. We called the company to discuss this and followed up by email. Frank (one of the co-owners, we believe) and a worker inspected the asphalt and Frank told us that it was not sloped properly away from the house. In fact, it was sloped to drain water from our neighbours side of the drive onto our side, rather than into the middle of the mutual driveway. Frank told us he would get back to us after he spoke with his brother Joe (also a co-owner, we believe). No one called us back. We later telephoned the company and Joe told us there was no problem with the workmanship and there was nothing they could do. He raised his voice, yelled at us and then hung up on us. West York Paving later failed to respond to our registered letter, in which we requested a refund for failure to honour its contractual guarantee. We have never had a contractor refuse to at least make some effort to remedy their defective work and honour their written guarantee. We hired another company to completely re-do the work, which involved digging out all the new asphalt. This other company did a great job, used smaller rollers and hand-finished all the asphalt to ensure the asphalt was properly sloped and graded into the middle of the driveway. They took the time to explain to us beforehand the additional steps to consider in order to pave our wide mutual driveway something West York Paving had not bothered to do. We had an extremely poor experience with a contractor that has no interest in responding to its customers concerns.

Company Response

You mention several times that the measure of a company is how they respond to their customers and Funny enough we respond to all of our customers which as you can see on our Homestars site. In fact we have Glowing Reviews from several of our customers so I don't think people are going to buy into you Slandering our company as you have been trying to do over and over again. When a company gives their opinion on how a job is to be done and you agree to the terms you should not come back at them with a ridiculous story as you have written explaining what you say happened. In your case it was entirley up to you to go ahead and hire another outfit to repave your driveway which was not necessary but again this was your choice to do so.In conclusion to this matter I want anyone reading this Review to Know that we do take customer service very serious and our Hundreds of Reviews posted prove just that. Thank you.

Our radiators were cold the morning of January 19 - turned out the boiler was out. I called Belyea Bros, and Chelsea & Elaine (who were both very friendly despite handling a gazillion emergency calls that day) arranged for someone to come to our home sometime after 12 noon. Dylan arrived before 11 a.m., which was much appreciated! He was quick to diagnose the problem as a faulty (antique-ish) thermostat and installed an easy-to-use digital one for us. It was clear from the outset that Dylan really knows what he's doing, he was very patient with all our questions, and instructed me clearly in how to operate the new thermostat. This terrific service reminds me why we have used Belyea Bros for several years - our service agreement with them sure came in handy today. (Note that this review is posted a bit late as I had challenges in submitting it)

Chris and his team have helped us keep our garden looking well-managed for 4 years or so. They come to our place approximately every 10 days and are quick and efficient, friendly and know exactly what our property needs! In the spring and fall, they do a major cleanup of the yard, which saves me many hours of heavy garden work (that would likely never get done). In the winter, they are quick to plow our driveway and shovel our walks after a snowfall. They take terrific care of our property year-round. And their services are very reasonably priced!
